    PAINTING PROCESS

Page 1 of 2The following process is established in Pyrotech for painting of Panels, Control Desk and Junction Boxes.

    Equipments used :

    1. Hot 7 Tanks process with Hoisting arrangement

    2. Painting Booth - 2 Nos.

    3. Hot air oven with trolleys ( upto 250C) - 2 Nos.

    I Surface preparation

a Degreasing To remove the oil & grease from the surface of metal sheet Temperature 85C to 95C

b Derusting To remove the rust from the surface & to prevent the sheet Temperature 54C to 60Cfrom getting pitted.

c Activation Acts as surface conditioner and promote the phosphating action. Ambient Temperature

    pH value 8.0 to 10.0

d Phosphating It's an accelerated process of producing a fine and smooth Temperature 65C to 70C

film of metallic phosphating layers which covers the anodic &

cathodic area on the metal surface. So as to make the surface

non conductive which prevents the electro- chemical corrosion

and enhanced organic coat bonding(powder coating) strength to6 to 8 times.

e Passivation/ It forms several layer of metal oxide or Polymolecular oxide Temperature 65C to 70C

Chromatising on the surface, which prevents the metal dissolution. It's pH value 6.0 to 7.0

enhanced impact resistance on paint coating to 8 to 10 times.

Salt spray performance upto 500 Hrs.

    III PAINTING

    a) Primer The function of primer is to protect the metal against highly Finish & Gloss Smooth & Matt

corrosive environment. Epoxy based Red Oxide Zinc Phosphate Cross hatch test Passes (100%)

primer is applicable on CRCA, HRCA & MS sheets and Epoxy (ASTMD -3359-95a)/ IS-101

based Zinc Chromate primer for Aluminium. Scratch hardness test IS-101 Passes at 1kg.

    Salt spray performance >168 Hrs.

    b) DRYING Temperature 120 C for 20 minutes/100C for 30 minutes

    c) M-seal & putty To fill up the dents & scratches.

    d) Surfacer It acts as an intermediate coat. It improves adhesion between Finish & Gloss Smooth & Matt

primers and top coat.Epoxy and polyurethane based surfacer Cross hatch test Passes (100%)

    are used. (ASTMD -3359-95a)/ IS-101

Scratch hardness test IS-101 Passes at 1kg.

    Salt spray performance >168 Hrs.e) DRYING Temperature 120 C for 20 minutes/100C for 30 minutes

Colour shade IS-5/RAl As per customer requirement

    f) Epoxy Ist Coat The distinguishing features of Epoxy paint provides an excellent Finish & Gloss As per customer requirement

(External & Internal) anti corrosive properties, Alkali resistance and solvent resistance Thickness As per customer requirement

Epoxy paint have good water resistance and adhesion properties. Cross hatch test Passes (100%)

    (ASTMD -3359-95a)/ IS-101

    g) Putty (Final) To fill up the dents, scratches & reappearing. Scratch hardness test IS-101 Passes at 1kg.

    Salt spray performance >168 Hrs.

    h) DRYING Temperature 120 C for 20 minutes/100C for 30 minutes

Polyurethane The distinguishing features of Polyurethane paint provides an Colour shade IS-5/RAL As per customer requirement

Topcoat excel lent anti corrosive properties acid, alkali , solvents & water Finish & Gloss As per customer requirement

resistance. Aliphatic polyurethane system gives excellent Thickness As per customer requirement

resistance to UV rays for prolonged resistance to yellowing & Cross hatch test Passes (100%)

surface chalking, good life for out door applications. (ASTMD -3359-95a)/ IS-101

Scratch hardness test IS-101 Passes at 1kg.

    Salt spray performance >168 Hrs.

III POWDER COATINGThe distinguishing features of powder coating provides an Colour shade IS - 5/RAL As per customer requirement

excellent mechanical strength, prolonged corrosion & weather Finish & Gloss As per customer requirement

resistance and resistance to a variety of chemicals. Coat thickness 60 to 100 microns

It's gives excellent corrosion and humidity resistance & edge Cross Hatch Test Passes (100 %)

    covering.

Epoxy-polyester Epoxy -Polyester powder coatings are based on curing of epoxy (ASTMD -3359-95a)/ IS-101

powder resin with a Corboxyl polyester resin. Scratch hardness test IS-101 Passes at 1kg.

Polyester rich hybrid powder will have a better durability to Salt spray performance >700 Hrs.

exterior exposure, excellent mechanical properties, colour

stability on curing, resistance to yellowing at high temperature& corrosion resistance. The colour & gloss stability (UV-

resistance) of Epoxy Polyester is better then of Epoxy powder

Since no solvent are used consistency in colour process is verygood.
