Setting your margins in a Word Document takes only a few clicks. In the Layout tab, select Margins. You’ll see this screen:Setting your margins in a Word Document takes only a ‘click’ (or two). In the Layout tab, select Margins.This screen appears You can see the standard word settings for various types of documents.

To set the margins on this document, select Custom Margins at the BOTTOM of the dialog to see this screen. (Choose the words “Custom Margin”, not the little icon.)

The top margin is the distance from the top edge of the page at which your typing will appear. To change our top margin of 1.25” to 1.5”, we click in the box where the 1.25” is and insert the .5”. That looks like this:

Then, using the ‘Tab’ key on our keyboard, we tab to the next field, which is ‘Bottom:’ and set that margin.

There are several different ways of changing the settings. We can click on the up and down arrows to the right of the field:

Those arrows move the settings in increments of .1" We have clicked the down arrow twice and this is what we see:

OR, we can highlight the entire field and simply type in our desired new setting.

After we have set the margins all the way around the page, we will click on ‘OK’ to save the margins. The settings we have just chosen are for the current document ONLY. If we want our settings to apply to all our documents, click the ‘Default’ button at the bottom of the dialog.

You will see this message. If this is your choice, click “Yes” to make these margins your standard or “default’ margin settings.
