Facebook Setting Up A Business Page
Why is a Facebook page important?
• You can have an unlimited “friend” count, instead of the limit of 5,000 for personal profiles
• Your followers won’t need to know you personally, but they’ll still be able to find your business
• You’ll have the ability to advertise your page
• You can access Facebook Insights to view important data, such as how often your customers are visiting your page and what they like to see
• Bonus: It’s free!
Objectives
• Learn how to create a Facebook page for you business from scratch
• Design your page with a profile picture and cover photo, choose which apps are displayed, fill in the about section of your business
• Making detailed posts- learn the importance of hashtags, page tags, and including pictures with posts
Setting Up A New Business Page
• Begin by visiting https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
• After selecting the page category and basic information, set up will begin

• The first stage of setup includes the About section of your page
• Here you will provide the category of your business, a brief description of your business, and your business website URL
• You will also create a Facebook web address to make it easy for people to find your business. The address is most commonly the name of your business

• The second stage of setup is to select a Profile Picture
• The Profile Picture will also appear as your business page’s icon when commenting on a post or appearing in a news feed
• The picture should be your company’s logo

• The third stage of setup is to add your page to your favorites
• By doing this, your page will appear in the upper left hand corner of your personal Facebook account

• The fourth stage of setup is to create a payment method for advertising. This is promoted by Facebook and is not necessary to your business page’s set-up
• Awareness can be created by creating informative posts
• You can always create paid advertisements in the future.

• Once the beginning stages of setup have been completed, you will be able to view your new business page
• Click the “next” button that appears in the upper left of the page to receive a tour of your new page

• To change your profile picture, click the camera icon in the lower left of your profile picture

• To display a Cover Photo, simply click the “Add a Cover” button in the upper right corner of your page

• Your Cover Photo is displayed at the top of your page and should be a unique image that highlights your products, services, or the physical aspects of your business
• This could be a popular menu item, a job well done, or a best selling product

• One way to share information about an upcoming event or special is to change your Cover Photo to a visual advertisement
Apps
• Facebook allows four apps to appear below your Cover Photo before clicking “More” to see others
• Think critically about which apps to choose as they direct most of your page’s traffic
• About, Photos, and Reviews are important tabs that should almost always remain on the App bar

About Your Business
• There are 155 characters allotted in the Short Description of your Facebook page. Use this space to describe the who, what, where, when, and why of your business
• Don’t forget the basics: sharing information such as location, phone number, email, website and hours help provide customers with information that can lead to future sales
• A brief history of how the business was started, or background information is a nice addition to the basics

Photos
• Sharing pictures from different aspects of your business allows customers to get a more in depth look at what makes your company unique
• Create photo albums for topic such as products, employees, events, and more

Posting: Tagging Names
Purpose
• When you tag a person or page, you create a link to their Timeline in your post. The post may also be added to their Timeline
• This can be used when sharing information about an event your company will be attending or hosting
Benefits
• The post will be shared with a larger audience than if no tag was used
• It will be visible to the audience you selected, plus friends of the tagged person/page

1. Press the Space bar and type the “@” symbol
2. Type the name of the person/page you’re tagging
3. As you type, a suggestion list will appear
4. Click the suggested name to link the page with the text

Posting: Adding Hashtags
Purpose
• Hashtags turn topics and phrases into clickable links in your posts
Benefits
• This helps people find posts about topics they’re interested in
• Users can search for a specific hashtag to find information related to a topic

1. Type the “#” symbol followed by the topic or phrase
2. Write the phrase as one word, no spacing
3. Capitalize the first letter in each word to make the hashtag more legible

Purpose
• Including pictures with your posts helps capture reader’s attention. It also creates a visual idea of what your text is saying
Benefits
• Posts with pictures have 100% more engagement than those that only have text

• Click the camera icon to browse files and choose an image to upload in the post

• Once the chosen image has been selected, the image will upload to the post
• To add another image, click the grey plus sign to the right of the uploaded image
