Help Wanted Online (HWOL)

• Measures employer demand by counting online job postings

• Job postings are captured from several sites including: • Monster • CareerBuilder • Employer Job Boards • Government Job Boards

• Assigned an Occupation Code (SOC), an Industry Code (NAICS), and an employer if possible

• CWIA then compiles statewide & local lists (by WIA) of Job Postings by: • Industries/Industry Groups • Occupations/Occupation Groups • Employers

•CWIA distributes these to Local Workforce Investment Boards & CareerLinks™ to:

• Help people find jobs at CareerLinks™ • Determine training needs • Identify emerging industry and occupational trends. • Use for economic development and find employers for outreach

New Hires: Real Time

• By Federal Law, every employer must report a new hire within 20 days • This is done to aid in child support collection

• This data is available to use for LMI purposes and is available much sooner than traditional LMI data sources, around 30 days from close of quarter

• Published in Fast Facts, posted on CWIA’s homepage, and distributed to Local WIBs and CareerLinks™

• Uses of New Hires Real Time data • Provides evidence that hiring is taking place all the time • Shows where (WIA) and in which industries employers are currently hiring • Identify emerging industry trends • Can focus on new hires in Targeted Industry Clusters

• Combine with PA Employer Database, Job Spidering, and CWIA’s Employer Search feature on our website to find employers

• Input new hires three-digit industry NAICS code

• Focus on trend analysis: compare to a year ago and use volume for significance

Job Spidering

• Job Spidering allows job seekers to review thousands of online jobs from dozens of web sites in one location

• Different from HWOL; rather than counting and grouping, Job Spidering allows the searcher to apply for the job. Located on www.paworkstats.state.pa.us and is free to the public for use •Job postings are categorized in labor market information language. Assigned an Occupation Code (SOC), an Industry Code (NAICS), and an employer if possible; and searchable by geographic area

•CWIA recommends using Job Spidering in conjunction with our many other labor market information products for focused job searches by industry, occupation, or employer (e.g., HWOL, New Hires, Occupational Projections, TIC) • Job Spidering Micro Data is being distributed (upon request) to:

• LWIBs for trend analysis • CareerLinks™ for client and business services teams

LED Database

• The Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Database is a new tool offered by CWIA. The purpose of this database is to facilitate easier and increased usage of Local Employment Dynamics data • This data can be used to generate information that is local to the county or WIA. Additionally, this is currently one of the only ways to analyze information on employment and earnings in different industries by age and gender LED is: • Local - It provides data on various geographic levels, including state, county, and WIA • Employment - It provides data on employees (age and gender), industries (2-digit to 4-digit NAICS codes), and earnings by industry • Dynamics - Worker changes (new hires, separations, turnover, and earnings) and firm changes (job gains and losses) can be analyzed by industry and geography • Distributed by DVD (mailed) to WIBs on a quarterly basis, available upon request
