We have discovered heaven is bigger than our whole universe!

• And there are most likely billions of angels with jobs, positions, authority, etc.

• And more than that – they have free will!• In fact, when Lucifer rebelled against God,

he had an army consisting of 1/3 of all the angels with him!

Page 4: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

The Journey before us

• This week – Satan’s fall• Next week – Mother’s day• The following week – creation vs.

evolution• The week after that – Genesis 1-2• And then, Genesis 3-4 the fall of man

Genesis 1:1

• We will do an introduction to the book later – today we need to finish our study of angels, so we will peer into the fall of Lucifer.

Page 7: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

First, why is the important to

study?• All evil, bad, sickness, and death come

from Satan.• It is important to know that God did not

create evil, but in giving angels free will, He allowed it to enter in so that mankind would have free will. There had to be evil in order for us to choose good.

• Without a choice, there is no true love!

Page 8: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Some main points

• Lucifer was created good• He was created before this universe, so in

the creation of this universe God could call everything ‘good’.

• He chose bad and became evil• He was cast down from heaven, but still

has access to heaven• At the breaking of the sixth seal, he will be

cast out of heaven for ever.

Page 9: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• So when did Satan rebel against God?

Page 10: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Theories

• Some say Satan sinned between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 – the gap theory

• It could be he sinned after the creation of the world, before the creation of man.

• Either way, his pride was his sin, and caused all evil in the universe!

• And Satan was cast down to earth• So, when did Satan fall?• First we need a little reminder…

Page 11: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Flash forward…we now have

authority over Satan & his demons!Luke 10:1818 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on

serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

How do we have authority over the enemy?

Page 12: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Jas 4:6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE."

• Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

• Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Page 13: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

So, back to our question – when did Satan fall?

Page 16: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Satan being cast out of heaven is in two phases, just like the coming of our Lord

• Jesus had a first coming and there will be a second coming.

• Satan was cast out of heaven, but still has access to the throne of God.

• The second time Satan will be cast out of heaven will be permanent.

Page 17: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Jesus witnessed the first time Satan was cast from heaven…

• Luk 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."

• Luk 10:18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

Page 18: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

When good angels choose

to do bad…• Angels were given free will – example:• Dan 10:13 "But the prince of the kingdom

of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

Page 19: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Dan 10:21 "However, I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of truth. Yet there is no one who stands firmly with me against these forces except Michael your prince.

Page 20: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

The fall of Lucifer

• Most likely happened after the creation of the garden, before the creation of man.

• Before we explore this, a quick question: What kind of angel is Satan?

Page 21: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Eze 28:13 "You were in Eden, the garden of God;

Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created They were prepared.

• Eze 28:14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.

• Eze 28:15 "You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created Until unrighteousness was found in you.

Page 22: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Gleanings from the text…• This is a word about Satan, not the King of

Tyre – how do we know? Because he was created, not born. Also, he walked in the Garden of Eden!

• He was created good, and chose evil…• Most people say Satan was an archangel

like Michael, but here he is called a ‘cherub’.

Page 23: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

We already discussed Cherubim – review…• The Bible portrays cherubim as the

guardians of the Garden of Eden (Gen_3:24) and seemingly reflecting glory of the Lord (cf. Eze_10:3-4, Eze_10:18-20); as flanking the throne of God (Psa_99:1; cf. Isa_37:16

• Cherubim: highest order with indescribable power—appearance as man, lion,– four wings

• Satan appears as – ‘Angel of light’, ‘Roaring lion’, etc.

Page 24: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

God rides on Cherubim!

• 2Sa 22:7 "In my distress I called upon the LORD, Yes, I cried to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears…

• 2Sa 22:11 "And He rode on a cherub and flew; And He appeared on the wings of the wind.

Page 25: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

He walked in Eden – so when

was Eden complete?• Turn to Genesis 1• We know Satan fell after walking in Eden!• Adam and Eve walked in Eden as well, so

we know the fall must have taken place after Eden was finished, before mankind was created!

• So now we must ask, why did Satan fall?

Page 26: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

What was his sin?

Page 27: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Isa 14:11 'Your pomp and the music of your harps Have

been brought down to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.'

• Isa 14:12 "How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!

• Isa 14:13 "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.

• Isa 14:14 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.'

• His sin was to usurp the hierarchy God established!

Page 28: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

This is why women are not allowed to have

authority over a man or teach a man…

• To do so would be to rebel against the hierarchy that God established.

• 1Co 11:3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

Page 29: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• So, when women pray or prophesy

publically they need to where a veil or covering –

• The covering is not her hair..• 1Co 11:6 For if a woman does not cover

her head, let her also have her hair cut off;

• And she must wear it on account of the angels…

Page 30: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• 1Co 11:10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

• ‘ought’ – to owe or be bound legally to a debt, to be legally commanded to perform a duty that one owes in fulfillment of a judgment.

Page 31: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

It is a legal judgment because of

Eve’s fall into sin…• Gen 3:16 To the woman He said, "I will

greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."

Page 32: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

So we know that…• All angels were originally created “holy.” God

cannot create something that is sinful. Some angels chose not to obey God and sinned. Peter refers to “the angels that sinned” (2 Pet. 2:4). Jude mentions “the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation...” (Jude 6).

• Jesus referred to hell as “everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Mt. 25:41). Evidently, Satan’s angels are the angels which chose to follow Lucifer in his quest for the worship that belonged to God.

Page 33: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Isaiah continued…

• Isa 14:15 "Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.

• This won’t happen until the second coming of Christ(Rev. 20:1-3)

• Rev 20:2-3 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he threw him into the pit/abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed;

Page 34: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

What we do know about Satan from

New Testament revelation• “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father.

He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. Jn. 8:44

• And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Rom. 16:20

• But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:3

• And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Cor. 11:14

• And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Rev. 12:9

Page 35: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

1. In Christ’s ministry

a. He tempted Christ (Matt.4:1-11).b. He attempted to thwart Christ’s work (John 8:44; Matt.16:23).c. He possessed Judas to accomplish the betrayal (John 13:27).

2. In unbelieversa. He blinds their minds to not understand of the gospel (2 Cor.4:4).b. When the gospel is heard or understood, he tries to hinder its effect

(Luke 8:12).c. He uses persecution (Rev.2:10) and false religions (Rev.2:13) to hinder

the effect of the gospel.3. In believers

a. He tempts believers (to pride – 1 Chron.21:1-8; to materialism – John 2:15; James 5:1-7; to immorality – 1 Cor.7:5; to lie – Acts 5:3; to discouragement – 1 Pet.5:6-10; to be unforgiving – 2 Cor.2:10,11).

b. He hinders the ministries of believers (1 Thess.2:18; Rev.2:10).c. He promotes false teaching among believers (1 John 4:1-4).d. He promotes anger, bitterness and division (Eph4:26,27; 2 Cor2:5-11).

Direct Activity He works directly by deception, temptation,

attack and possession

Page 36: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

He inspires false prophets and is able to

do false miracles

• Mat 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

Page 37: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Thus we are commanded to test

• 1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Page 38: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Much revival in the Church

today is false revival!• 1Ti 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says

that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

• 1Ti 4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,

Page 39: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Signs of False revival

• Raw emotionalism• Sorcery rather than true miracles• Fortune telling rather than true words from

God• Spiritual drunkenness, laughter, loss of

control• Much of what occurs is contrary to the fruit

of the Spirit: Galatians 5:18

Page 40: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Why is there sickness, death, and bad things in the world?

• Because we gave title deed of the earth to Satan!

• Joh 10:10 "The thief(Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Page 41: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

In the beginning, God gave the earth to mankind…

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all

the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Page 42: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

God gave us all authority over the earth

with only one rule…

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has

God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"

Page 43: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Some say the serpent isn’t

Satan…• Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was

thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world

Page 44: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Gen 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; Gen 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in

the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"

Gen 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die!

Gen 3:5 "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be

like God, knowing good and evil."

Page 45: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Satan became the ruler of this world at this point – when man broke covenant with God

and was cast out of the garden.

Title deed of the earth was given from man to Satan.

Page 46: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Mat 4:8 Again, the devil *took Him to a very

high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; Mat 4:9 and he said to Him, "All these

things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me."

Page 47: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Act 26:18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an

inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.'

• Now, the Earth is Satan’s dominion…

Page 48: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

For now he still reigns over the

earth and has access to heavenJob 1:6 ... 6 Now there was a day when

the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

Page 49: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

He now is ruler of this world

• Mat 4:8 Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;

• Mat 4:9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me."

• Mat 4:10 Then Jesus *said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

Page 50: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Ephesians 2:2: ... And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

Page 51: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Joh 12:31 "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

• Joh 12:32 "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself."

Page 52: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

1Th 2:18 For we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, more than once--and yet Satan

hindered us. We are in a battle!

53

Page 53: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

1Pe 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls

around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Page 54: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

When we are born again, we come out of Satan’s domain

Php 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord

Jesus Christ;

Satan will give his dominion to the Antichrist…

Page 55: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Rev 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like

a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his

throne and great authority. • But Jesus paid the price for the earth – and He will

have dominion!

• But until then – the breaking of the sixth seal – when we are revealed as the son’s of God, even the earth itself cries out for a redeemer from Satan and his wicked reign…

Page 56: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Jesus said this because it was finished at the cross, but He doesn’t take back the earth until the proper time…

So for now, we are in enemy territory! Fighting a spiritual battle! All creation longs for the coming of

our Lord to take back this earth!

Page 57: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Rom 8:19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits

eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. Rom 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope

Rom 8:21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the

children of God. Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groans and

suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. Rom 8:23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within

ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

• And Jesus, when He breaks that final seal, will take it back!

Page 58: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Dan 7:24 'As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be

different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. Dan 7:25 'He will speak out against the Most High and wear

down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given

into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. Dan 7:26 'But the court will sit for judgment, and his

dominion will be taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever.

Dan 7:27 'Then the sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be

given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions

will serve and obey Him.'

Page 59: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Jesus get’s dominion back

Dan 7:13 "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up

to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. Dan 7:14 "And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

• When? After all seven seals are broken and He begins to Judge the earth!

• The sixth seal starts the final battle in heaven, the seventh gives Jesus dominion!

• That scroll with seven seals is most likely the title deed to the earth!

Page 60: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Satan looses his dominion over the earth and is cast out of heaven!

• Rev 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she *had a place prepared by God, so that there she would be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

• Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war,

• Rev 12:8 and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.

• Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

• Rev 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.

• When is this? At the breaking of the sixth seal (battle in heaven, great tribulation on earth) and is completed with the breaking of the 7th seal!

Sun grows dark, Israel

protected, a resurrection

takes place, The Day of

the Lord Begins!

This is when Jesus takes back the earth, at the breaking of the 7th seal!

Page 62: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

All death and suffering come from him…

• Joh 10:9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

• Joh 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Page 63: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

He is a liar• Joh 8:44 "You are of your father the devil,

and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Page 64: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

He wants to destroy mankind• 1Pe 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the

alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

• 1Pe 5:9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

Page 65: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

Many angels followed him in his

rebellion against God…• Rev 12:3 Then another sign appeared in

heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems.

• Rev 12:4 And his tail *swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.

Page 66: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

The Activity of Demons

Satan's chief goal is to establish his own counterfeit kingdom in opposition to God's kingdom. They want you to worship and

be addicted to anything but GodThey want to bring false

doctrine and practice into the church

Page 67: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

So the battle is mainly in the mind…

• 2Co 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,

• 2Co 10:4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

• 2Co 10:5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Page 68: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• 1Jn 4:4 You are from God, little

children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

• 1Jn 4:5 They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them.

• 1Jn 4:6 We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Page 69: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

We are no longer under Satan’s domain!

• Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

• Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

• Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously

• Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

• Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son

Page 70: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

So now, we are ambassadors of God’s kingdom to

this lost world still in Satan’s domain…

• 1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.

• 2Co 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Page 71: Session Four Genesis 1 63 Satan’s Fall

• Eph 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that
