schools Met regularly and emailed – a lot! Gathered data from each of our schools Wrote an end of project report for PDS / TDA Fed back local information to our own schools

What did we find out? Comparisons of three like-for-like groups

in terms of attendance showed no improvement in attendance in the non-intervention group (- 0.23%), some improvement in a standard intervention group (+4.4%) and highest improvement (+6.6%) in the SV ITT group. This was measured across an academic year.

Enjoy and achieve

What did we find out? Comparisons of two like-for-like groups in

terms of school generated data showed the standard intervention group achieved a mean average improvement in points of 16.2 points per pupil, and the SV ITT group showed a mean average improvement of 19.2 points per pupil. This was measured across an academic year.

What did we find out?Pupils: I really enjoyed working with the trainee teachers. It made me realise I

had some good ideas. People listened to me. I thought about my behaviour in class and decided I wanted to be a better student. (Patcham High)

ITT students: I agreed with their suggestions and I was interested to hear how their

feedback related very much to the pupils’ learning experience rather than my teaching style. (Wimborne Junior)

Parents: My daughter has enjoyed the responsibility and trust that has been

given to her being part of this project. (Patcham High)

Making a positive contribution

Impact Wimborne Junior school now regularly use SV

observations as part of their ITT training programme, and it is an important aspect of the work of their school council. CPGS continues to work with their pupils and, as one of our feeder schools, this allows continuity of provision.

CPGS, Patcham and Mayfield have continued their work and revise their practice so that pupil involvement in SV ITT is broader and not just the domain of G&T pupils.

All staff involved have used aspects of the project for M level qualifications or the NPQH.

At CPGS this has been used as a model of good research practice to inform and guide other small-scale research projects for SSAT work.
