Module AimThe aims of the module are

• The aim of this module is to prepare students to performkinematic analysis of planar mechanisms and use suchmechanisms during design of different types of machinery

• Students are taught kinematics, synthesis and analysis ofmechanisms to accomplish desired motions of the machineryand their rigid body dynamic behaviour during design

• Students are trained to perform design/selection of differentmotion/power transmission mechanisms

• Students will also be trained to solve kinematic analysisproblems using ADAMS software

Module Learning ObjectivesAt the end of the module, the delegate would have understood -

• Fundamentals of kinematics, Degrees of freedom, Types ofmotion, Links, Joints, Kinematic chains, Mechanisms,Structure, Number synthesis, Linkage transformation,Intermittent motion, Inversions, The Grashof condition, Fourbar linkage

• How to synthesize and analyze of mechanisms analytically andgraphically during design of different types linkages

• Formulate problems involving linkages and carry out velocityand acceleration analysis of planar mechanisms

• How to carry out dynamic analysis of machine elements• Analyze the balancing in various machines and its effects• How to solve kinematic & dynamic analysis problems using
