Football NewsSES Girls’ Football -‐ Year 9
SES went to Wes Green this month, where they played against VES and Wes Green in a football tournament. Even though we came in third place, the final posi?on doesn’t show the commitment and the drive that the girls showed in both matches.
The first game was against Wes Green, which was very compe??ve; the SES girls were down by 1 at half ?me but didn’t let their heads drop. They fought through to the very end and with a minute to go Taya Chase scored the equalizer, leaving the score at 1-‐1.
Then SES had VES to play -‐ again a very tough game, with some unlucky misses from Taya and Kris?na in the 1st half, both just puKng the ball wide. Unfortunately VES did take their chances and scored 2 goals which leN the result a 2-‐0 loss for SES.
VES and Wes Green then carried on into the final, with the host school taking the ?tle with a scoreline of 4-‐0.
SES Vs Diera Interna9onal School
The Years 7 & 10 had the second compe??ve game of their league at DIS this month. Both teams again giving performances that SES should be very proud of.
We had a victory for the Year 10s with a very impressive score line of 20-‐10. Some excellent play from all the girls, great teamwork showing all over the pitch with great direc?on from captain Robyn Boulton and Gaby Toledo winning player of the match.
The Year 7s also showed great enthusiasm in their game against DIS, leading throughout the en?re game un?l the final quarter, when DIS came back from 3 points behind to win by 2 points. It was a disappoin?ng loss but a valuable learning experience. Hind Abusnana had a superb match.
Year 8 played a very compe??ve game against DIS also, playing with excellent teamwork and fantas?c skill. The game con?nued their recent improvements and they defeated DIS with a score line of 12-‐8.
Year 6 they had their 3rd game this season and had a disappoin?ng score against a very tough team, but it allowed some of our new players to get a chance to develop their skills and knowledge of the game.

Historic Victory for SES Footballers -‐ Year 7 & 8
SES Girls played fantas?cally this month in Wes Green’s football tournament. With teams AIS, VES and WES in the tournament, SES managed to come out on top; this is the first major tournament win for the team.
SES got off to a rocky start against VES were they had quite a few chances in the first half, but thanks to SES goalkeeper, Torri Whiffen, nothing passed the goal line. Then in the second half SES came out ba_ling strong and managed to put away 2 goals from Sarah Salama and Hind Abusana.
Our second game against VIS was our toughest game of the tournament. Each team showing great strength and presence on the pitch. Both teams had numerous chances but neither scored.
In our final game against WIS, SES were siKng top of the table but WIS was a very close 2nd, SES needed a victory to secure 1st place. WIS came out figh?ng, but SES held on strongly and kept their composure; each team member held their posi?ons and played brilliant football. In the end SES came away with a 4-‐0 result and had won the tournament.
Netball News
Year 7 & 8 Inter-‐House Netball
All three houses took part in a Inter-‐house compe??on this month with a mixture of Year 7 & 8 in each team. It was a very exci?ng event with some great compe??on and sportsmanship shown by all three teams. Each team had a chance of playing each other in a round robin compe??on, and everyone showed excellent skill and some very raw talent during their games.
Burton being the overall winners played outstandingly but that’s not to say that both Lawrence and Doughty didn’t put up a compe??ve fight. Burton defeated Doughty by 4 scores to 1 but only managed to beat Lawrence by 2 points, which allowed them to liN the ?tle. Doughty and Lawrence then having lost a game each, had to play out for 2nd place but that game ended in a draw, at 1-‐1.

SES vs Emirates Interna9onal School (Meadows)
SES girls had one of their toughest games to date this month. Being out sized and out powered, our girls had to turn to their tac?cs and skill in order to defeat EIS. Both Year 7 and 8 won their matches, the Year 8 again showed outstanding play and a high level of skill, winning 16-‐3 and captain Jennifer Raad earning player of the match. The Year 7 had a much more difficult ?me with their opponents; they did start off very well with Hind Abusana managed to total up 6 scores to 4 by half ?me, but a very physical EIS came out on the 2nd half determined to get back the points. EIS then managed to take the lead bringing the score to 7-‐6, but the Sharjah girls stepped up their game and again took the lead coming into the dying minutes of the game. Fortunately EIS could only manage to score 1 more point before the final whistle was blown, which in result leN SES in the lead with 8-‐7. SES captain Charlo_e was then announced as the deserving winner of the player of the match.

Rugby News
Sharjah English School vs Jumeriah College SES played a difficult game against a well organized team. JC were quick off the mark to score in the first 5minutes. SES found it hard going to match the physicality of the visitors. ANer 10 minutes Sharjah se_led in and started to keep the ball ?ght within the forwards, playing good pick and drive rugby and crossing the gain line but the strength and speed of JC allowed them defend well. Captain Toby Oakeley made several good breaks and was well supported by Andy Wood who nearly broke through on the opposi?on’s 5m line. Just before half ?me Toby sustained a head injury taking him out of the game.
The second half saw great spirit by Sharjah who fought well and dominated the set pieces. But unfortunately they could not convert this to points as a ?ght JC defence had to work hard to stop a constant 10 minute wave of a_acks from SES.
It was a heavy loss for SES but as always some very posi?ve periods of play.Mr. Garre_’s Boot Award goes to Andy Wood.Mini Boot Award goes to Sco_ Hughes.

U16 Rugby: SES 15 – 38 BSAK
The first league game of the season turned out to be a very physical encounter against a team from The Bri?sh School Abu Dhabi. The final score does not reflect the fact that SES had most of the possession throughout the game, had the best team cohesion and probably played the be_er rugby. Unfortunately several missed tackles and a lack of athle?cism cost SES the win. Both SES tries were an excellent demonstra?on of team work with each individual fulfilling his du?es.
The first try came from Marcus Moore who drove the ball over the BSAK try line from the back of a ruck. The second try came from the Captain, Toby Oakley, who had an excellent game at fly half. He took the ball off his brother, Lucas at scrum half and went round the blind side of the scrum to score in the corner.
SES can now look forward to the next game against Al Yasmina in Abu Dhabi next week.
Mr G’s Boot Award goes to Ma_hew Wood for excellent defensive play on his wing.Mini G’s Boot Award goes to Jamie Heavy for most improved performer on the pitch.
