FALL 2019 Serving youth since 1985 A SEASON OF THANKS In September, we needed to reduce the Weekend Program hours in half. The goal is to keep the doors open to this vital program, long enough to fundraise. A youth participant who accesses the Weekend Program heard of our funding concerns and decided to write a letter to our team. The Weekend Pro- gram that Living Rock hosts is in danger of shut- ting down due to lack of funding. The Weekend Program has been so important to so many youth in Hamilton because of the meals that they serve, the food bank (which is Hamiltons only youth food bank) but most importantly because this program has helped at-risk youth to stay off the streets and have a place where they can feel safe and cared for.Tim R This letter was shared around and deeply moved a couple, who wish to remain anonymous. They felt led to donate $8,000. They are hoping that their gift inspires others to donate and even match their gift. We are excited to share that the Hamilton Community Foundation has provided a sponsorship of $11,609 which has just come through the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Chil- dren and Youth Fund. The Hamilton Ro- tary AM Club has also donated $2,083. This is such an encouragement to the Rock community, so we now hope to restore both Saturday and Sunday hours which increases our fundraising goal to $50K. Would you consider making a financial gift? WEEKEND PROGRAM CAMPAIGN The generosity and kindness of our community SPURS us on and INSPIRES us! We are deeply grateful to those who support our work. As we celebrate and reflect on thankfulness and Living Rock, know that we are thankful for you! $21,692 RAISED OUT OF OUR $50,000 GOAL

FALL 2019

Serving youth since 1985

A SEASON OF THANKS

In September, we needed to reduce the Weekend Program hours in half. The goal is to keep the doors open to this vital program, long enough to fundraise.

A youth participant who accesses the Weekend Program heard of our funding concerns and decided to write a letter to our team. “The Weekend Pro-gram that Living Rock hosts is in danger of shut-ting down due to lack of funding. The Weekend Program has been so important to so many youth in Hamilton because of the meals that they serve, the food bank (which is Hamilton’s only youth food bank) but most importantly because this program has helped at-risk youth to stay off the streets and have a place where they can feel safe and cared for.” Tim R

This letter was shared around and deeply moved a couple, who wish to remain anonymous. They felt led to donate $8,000. They are hoping that their gift inspires others to donate and even match their gift.

We are excited to share that the Hamilton Community Foundation has provided a sponsorship of $11,609 which has just come through the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Chil-dren and Youth Fund. The Hamilton Ro-tary AM Club has also donated $2,083.

This is such an encouragement to the Rock community, so we now hope to restore both Saturday and Sunday hours which increases our fundraising goal to $50K.

17th ANNUAL ARTS OF AUGUST (aoA)

AoA is a free city-wide initiative with themes of peace, love, equality and culture. Throughout the summer, there were 22 various art workshops offered with 181 participation interactions at Living Rock.

The 17th Annual Youth Art Showcase was held at the Central Public Library and emceed by Gordon Cameron, Group Managing Editor of the Hamilton Community News.

Live music performed by Sabian and Keon Crosswell-Stines accompanied by Al Craig, Founder of Living Rock Ministries.

This year there was a total of 65 art submissions by 42 individual youth. We wish to thank the Arts of August com-mittee for their hard work. A special note of thanks to Sarah Hounsell who did a wonderful job coordinating again this year. Hamilton Public Library was an awesome venue. Thank you all for your support! ……………………... …………….

Thank you City of Hamilton for sponsorship of this initiative.

Stacey your Legacy will continue

The Living Rock community has faced a huge loss. Stacey Callahan, Food Bank Coordinator has passed away. Stacey came to Living Rock in 2001 for her student internship. Through the years her passion for supporting youth with dignity never waivered.

Stacey was truly a wonderful person. As my very first field instructor, she went above and beyond to ensure that I felt comfortable and supported. Stacey was unfailing and unwaver-ingly kind to staff and continuously modelled professionalism, work ethic and a passion and commitment to the frequently difficult work. Perhaps most of all, and certainly most inspir-ing to me, Stacey was so compas-sionate and sought to provide the best possible support and care to the youth. I know they were im-portant to her and that shone through everything she did.” ~ Maddie

In memory of Stacey, the Food Bank has been renamed “Stacey’s Place”.

“This piece is a reflection of Stacey Callahan

Food Bank Coordinator who recently passed away.

Stacey always welcomed

everyone with a smile. She reached out to so many youth during

her time at the Rock.”

Our new walk-in refrigerator will increase our capacity to receive more fresh donations.

New Kitchen equipment!

Living Rock has just received a new walk-in refrigerator, ovens and cook tops, thanks to funding from, The City of Hamilton Future Fund. We have had our existing equipment for well over 15 years and we have prepared nearly 1/2 a million meals in this time. We have put this equipment to the test! We have had several equipment failures in recent history and because of this funding support, we now have the confidence that we will prepare yet another 1/2 million meals in the years to come.

We are so grateful to Avondale Restaurant Equipment who has generously donated all of the labour for the installations of our projects.

Thank you
