SERVICE MARKETING – FOUNDATION PROGRAM “I thought we were doing marketing. We have a corporate vice president of marketing, a topnotch sales force, a skilled advertising department, and elaborate marketing planning procedures. These fooled us. When the crunch came, I realised that we weren’t producing the cars that people wanted. We weren’t responding to new needs. Our marketing operation was nothing more than a glorified sales department. McKinsey Report concerning a major car manufacturer.

Outline With shifts in the value chain and as the business of service increases its share of revenue and profit in many corporations, Customer Services Marketing is fast becoming an area requiring specialist skills. The abstract nature of services presents some unique challenges for marketers and marketing processes. This program presents a foundation for understanding marketing in general and service marketing in particular.

Objectives After attendance, delegates will have gained a general understanding of the basic processes relating to service marketing and will be able to develop basic marketing plans.

Who Should Attend? The program is design for personnel who are new to the area of marketing and require a working foundation regarding marketing principles and processes. The bias is towards service marketing since a core differentiator today is increasingly the service component of a company’s offerings. Therefore, existing marketing staff will also find this program beneficial as a refresher and primer for services marketing activities.

Duration Two days.

Methodology A mix of instruction, dialogue and exercises combine to provide attendees with a broad learning experience. The breadth and depth of the contents, as well as the degree of interactivity will depend upon the chosen duration of the program.

General Contents ♦ What is marketing? ♦ What are the differences between marketing products and marketing services? ♦ What are the main marketing processes? ♦ Common mistakes in marketing services ♦ The Marketing Mix ♦ Market research techniques and sources of information ♦ Analysis Tools ♦ SWOT Analysis (or TOWS) ♦ Ansoff Matrix ♦ Boston Matrix ♦ GE Matrix ♦ Segmentation ♦ Strategic Options ♦ Pricing ♦ Market Communications ♦ The Marketing Organisation ♦ Selling ♦ The role of the salesman ♦ Retail, proforma and professional selling ♦ The Importance of Service Design ♦ Design Techniques
