EMS Controller Operations

Introduction The Energy Management System (EMS) Advanced controller is visible on the front panel and is mounted within the cassette electrics box on the front of the refrigeration cassette.

The EMS Advanced controller detects variable business hours and switches the chiller to active mode approximately three hours prior to opening, and then changes to stand-by mode approximately half an hour after close of business. While in the economical stand-by mode the cabinet lights turn off, the fans cycle on and off and the chiller operates at a higher internal temperature.

Firmware The firmware version is displayed on the digital display when the EMS Advanced controller is powered up. See the table below for current firmware versions:

Some differences exist between the two firmware versions. These differences are noted throughout this chapter where applicable and are summarised in ELSTAT firmware release notes.

IMPORTANTThe EMS Advanced controller must only be adjusted by an

authorised service agent.

Faceplate Because the controller plays such an important role, it’s helpful to know the parts of the faceplate you will use.

1Defrost button. Manually activates an additional defrost cycle, and used to program the controller.

The first automatic defrost occurs six hours after the first off-cycle.

3Infrared motion sensor. It detects activity within five metres around the front of the chiller, and feeds the data to the EMS advanced controller.

4 LED for the compressor light – green when compressor on.

LED indicating perishable mode – red when on.

Normal condition should be lit because the chiller is factory set for perishable product, which are high risk foods likely to support the growth of harmful bacteria. Perishable mode requires more energy.

When chilling non-perishable product, perishable mode can turned off to save energy.

7LED linked to the motion sensor and flashes red when there is activity around the chiller, but otherwise off.

8Up button. Used to program the controller and cancel rSF and Ht alarms.

9Down button. Used to program the controller.

Digital display of cabinet temperature or messages (see next page for details).

The temperature is what the sensor inside the chiller detects, and not necessarily the product temperature. However, they may be very close depending on how the controller is set to sense temperature.

When the chiller is in stand-by mode, the controller displays three (- - -) bars. This should not be displayed during normal business hours.

Messages andAlarms

The following table explains messages that the EMS Advanced controller displays and related alarms. Alarms signal unexpected operational changes in the chiller and stop when you disconnect the chiller from the power supply at the isolating switch. Refer to the diagnostic charts starting on page 59 for assistance with alarm diagnostics.

Display Description

When the chiller is in stand-by mode, the EMS Advanced controller displays three bars. This should not be displayed during normal business hours. When the chiller becomes operational, the display changes to the temperature (see previous page).

Defrost cycle in progress.

Door Open. The EMS Advanced controller detects an open door through a door switch in the door, and has found one open.

The door has been open for 2-3 minutes. An alarm sounds, but stops when the door closes again.

If the door remains open for longer than 3 minutes, such as when loading product, the alarm stops and the EMS Advanced controller turns off the compressor. The compressor starts again when the door closes.

High Temperature. The refrigeration system has overheated, and an alarm sounds. The EMS Advanced controller turns off the system to avoid damage. Possible causes and solutions for refrigeration system overheating could be:

Blocked condenser - clean the condenser. Inadequate ventilation around chiller - ensure cabinet is spaced off

wall by upstand. Faulty condenser fan - replace if necessary (see page 43). High ambient temperature - ensure chiller is operating in correct

enviroment (see “Specifications” on page 5).

Appliance Probe Failure. The appliance temperature sensor in the cabinet or condenser is disconnected or has failed, and an alarm sounds.

Condenser Probe Failure. The condenser temperature sensor in the cabinet or condenser has failed, and an alarm sounds.

Firmware version U01-r02: Faceplate displays PF2 and the compressor stops.

Firmware version U01 n01: Faceplate alternates between PF2 and cabinet temperature, and compressor keeps cycling.

Refrigeration System Failure. There is a refrigeration system failure, and the controller turns it off to avoid damage. An alarm sounds when the system does not reach the preset temperature within 72 hours.

Problem downloading parameters.

Supply High. The voltage from the main supply is too high, and an alarm sounds. The controller turns off the electrical motors, continuously monitors the voltage level, and restores power as soon as the voltage returns to a safe level.

Freeze up protection. The cabinet temperature is too low. The compressor stops running and the evaporator fans run continuously until the cabinet temperature reaches an acceptable level as defined by the parameter settings.

Supply Low. The voltage from the main supply is too low, and an alarm sounds. The controller turns off the electrical motors, continuously monitors the voltage level, and restores power as soon as the voltage returns to an appropriate level.

Running the Chiller

Function Operation of the EMS Advanced controller is determined by the parameter settings (detailed on page 14), and by information gathered via the motion sensor and door switch (see page 11).

The EMS Advanced electronic controller runs the chiller according to an automatically learned seven day schedule. The seven day schedule is split into 30 minute time periods which are identified as either active, monitor or stand-by periods. The EMS Advanced controller uses the information in these time periods to determine when the chiller should run in active or stand-by mode. The schedule is constantly updated with information collected by the motion sensor.

Initial Start-up When the chiller is initially started, the schedule is empty and the chiller is run according to the AF and LP parameters.

If AF = 3, the chiller operates in active mode for 48 hours while monitoring traffic density via the motion sensor and door door switch. After this 48 hour period it automatically changes the AF parameter to 0, 1 or 2 according to traffic monitored during the 48 hour period. If the AF parameter is initially preset to 0, 1 or 2, the EMS Advanced controller skips the initial 48 hour activity monitoring period and uses the preset value (0, 1 or 2).

During the following seven days, operation is determined by the LP parameter setting. If LP = 0, the chiller will switch between active and standby mode based on information gathered during the first 24 hours. If LP is set to 1, the chiller will run in active mode continuously for the seven days while learning and preparing a schedule for normal operation. After the initial start-up period, the EMS Advanced controller starts operating based on the schedule it has learned while continually updating the schedule when any change in the actual traffic usage patterns is detected.

Note: If the EMS Advanced controller is not powered for a 72 hour period, a half reset will be performed automatically. This will clear the schedule and the controller will enter the initial start-up period when next powered up.

NormalOperation

During normal operation, the chiller continually reviews data and updates the schedule with any activity changes. If no activity is detected by the motion sensor door and door switch during an active time period, the EMS Advanced controller will flag that period and monitor it in seven days time (when that time period is reached again in the schedule). If it confirms that this time period is inactive it will change it from a monitor period to a standby time period in the schedule. Note: The chiller will only operate in standby mode if the confirmed standby period is longer than parameters dS + Sr.

If activity is detected during a stand-by time period the lights will immediately switch on and stay on for up to 30 minutes (the remainder of that 30 minute time period). The EMS Advanced controller will temporarily flag that period and monitor it in seven days time. The following week it will ensure that the product is at the required sales temperature and operate in normal operational mode for that period. If there is activity during that same period it will change the status of that period to an active period. If it sees no activity during that period it will change it back to a stand-by period.

Relocation When moving the chiller to a location with different traffic density or different opening/closing hours, a half reset can be performed to reset the seven day schedule (see page 12). This allows the EMS Advanced controller to re-establish the opening/closing hours and alter the chiller operation more quickly than if it was left to learn the new schedule without a half reset. The

AF parameter setting can also be automatically reconfigured by setting AF = 3 in the parameter menu (see page 14).

Motion Sensor& Door Switch

The motion sensor detects activity in front of the chiller and feeds the data to the EMS Advanced controller. It is located on the faceplate of the controller and is visible on the front panel.

The motion sensor can be switched on and off via the Sn parameter (see page 14) (firmware U01 n01 only).

The chiller is fitted with a door switch below the door. The door switch tells the EMS Advanced controller how often the door is opened. A small magnet in the door frame activates the switch.

EvaporatorFans

The EMS Advanced controller runs the fans and lights in a manner that conserves energy. Specifically they:

Turn off when the door is opened, even when the compressor is running, so that cold air does not escape and warm air is not drawn in.

Run continuously during an uninterrupted pull-down (initial cooling of product) even if the doors are opened.

Remain off 3-4 minutes after the refrigeration unit is plugged in again after maintenance.

CondenserFan

The condenser fan runs during compressor on-cycles and stops during compressor off-cycles. Note: Cassettes manufactured prior to June 2013 may include a condenser fan reverse function.

TemperatureProbes

Two temperature probes feed data to the EMS Advanced controller - the control probe and condenser probe.

The control probe controls the chiller temperature and provides chiller temperature data for the EMS Advanced controller to display.

The condenser probe activates the over temperature refrigeration system cut-out if the refrigeration unit overheats. If activated the EMS Advanced controller will display alarm code Ht (see “Messages and Alarms” on page 9 for more information).

Defrost Cycles The defrost cycle activation is determined by the dE, df and dtf parameter settings (see page 14). The EMS Advanced controller displays dEF during the defrost cycle.

Note: On EMS Advanced controllers with U01 n01 firmware, the defrost interval timer (dE) is reset when the EMS Advanced controller is reset. This will delay the time until next defrost and could cause an ice-up.

Lighting Sign and interior lights are on during active mode, and off during standby mode.

Programming the EMS Controller

Menu Entry The EMS Advanced controller menu can only be accessed by entering a special and unique sequence.

To access the controller menu

The down button scrolls through the available menu

The set button enters the sub menu

Pressing the down button at FR exits the menu

If no input after eight seconds the EMS exits the menu

Clearing Datafrom Memory

(Half Reset)

It is sometimes necessary to erase learned business patterns, traffic density counters and statistics. A half reset can be performed when the cooler is in standby mode during outlet opening hours to clear the learnt matrix.

To reset the controller

Note: Half reset requires the standard password, which is the special and unique sequence used to enter the menu (see “Menu Entry” above). Full reset requires the standard password plus a restricted password.

Full Reset A full reset should only be used as a last resort. It will reset all parameters to the global default settings and could cause damage to the refrigeration unit. To enquire about performing a full reset, contact SKOPE.

1. Press and hold the set button, PAS appears on the display.

2. Release the set button.

3. Press the set button four times.

4. Press the up button once.

5. Press the down button twice.

6. Press the defrost button twice, PS appears on the display.

7. Either:Press the down button to enter the main menu.

Occasionally it is necessary to review data the EMS Advanced controller collects, such as for diagnostic purposes.

To view data

The following table explains the statistics.

1. Press the up and down buttons simultaneously to start the controller scrolling through the data and displaying values. It displays each value for about 20 seconds so that you can write it down.

2. Once finished it returns to its standard status.

24 Hours Continuously calculated from the highest and lowest registered temperature and updated with every update of these two values.

Lowest registered temperature

24 Hours At the end of the 24 hour period data from the last hour is erased, and is replaced by data from the latest hour.

24 Hours At the end of the 24 hour period data from the last hour is erased, and is replaced by data from the latest hour.

Number of door openings

7 Days On the 7th day, the first day is erased and the current day is added to the count, which means that the count represents the last 7 days plus the current day or part thereof. The display shows the count as follows:

1-999 door openings: The display shows 1 to 999.

1000 - 99,999 door openings: The display shows 1.0 for 1000 to 1049, 1.1 for 1050 to 1099, 1.2 etc.

Number of shoppers

7 Days As per door opening counts above.

Activity frequency

0, 1, 2, or 3 displayed

Traffic density settings. 0 = Low, 1 = Medium, 2 = High, 3 = Auto

Compressor cycles

24 Hours A running total of cycles that the compressor has completed. A cycle consists of it turning on and off after the set point has been reached.

Running total

A running total unless a factory reset is done, which erases ALL data in the controller. When a half reset is performed in the field, the compressor running hours remain but all other statistical values are erased. The total maximum count is 99,999.

Perishable mode

OFF or On displayed

Normal condition should be on because the chiller is factory set for perishable product. Changing it to off enables non-perishable mode and greater energy savings.

TemperatureSetpoint

The chiller temperature setpoint is factory set at 1°C. If necessary the standard setting can be adjusted between -9.9°C and +9.9°C. SKOPE do not recommend that the setpoint be changed unless it is absolutely necessary, and then only by small increments at a time.

To adjust the setpoint

PerishableMode

The chiller has the ability to operate in either perishable mode or non-perishable mode. When in perishable mode the symbol on the electronic controller faceplate is lit red, when in non-perishable mode the symbol is not lit.

Perishable mode is for use with perishable products such as dairy or food products. When in perishable mode the chiller temperature is kept constantly cool at all times. During standby periods the lights switch off and the fans cycle on and off. Perishable mode must be used when perishable product is being stored inside the chiller.

Non-perishable mode is for use with non-perishable products such as carbonated drinks and water. When in non-perishable mode, the chiller temperature is moderated, the lights switch off and the fans cycle on and off during standby periods resulting in maximum energy savings. Follow the steps below to change between perishable and non-perishable mode.

To change between perishable and non-perishable mode

MarketingMode

Firmware U01 n01 only. Marketing mode can be switched on and off via the Ar parameter (see page 14). When on, the lights stay on at all times (including during stand-by periods). When off, the lights will be on during active periods and off during standby periods.

1. Access the parameter menu and navigate to the setpoint parameter SPC (see page 14).

2. Press the up and down button to change the value.

3. Once the desired setting is flashing on the display, leave the controller for 20-30 seconds to save the setting.

IMPORTANTEnsure perishable mode is used when perishable product is being

stored inside the chiller.

1. Access the parameter menu and navigate to the perishable mode parameter PEr (see page 14).

2. Push the down button to change between perishable and non-perishable mode:

0 = Non-perishable mode1 = Perishable mode

3. Once the desired setting is flashing on the display, leave the controller for 20-30 seconds to save the setting.

Test RoutineFunction

The test routine function can be used as a diagnostic tool to determine possible faults. It has the ability to test the following:

Function buttons - tests the four faceplate buttons (firmware U01-r02 only).

Controller output relays - tests the compressor, light and fan relays, and disables all relays.

Controller inputs - tests probes and door door switch.

Motion sensor - tests motion sensor.

Cycle through each of the tests mentioned above to reach the required test (e.g. to reach the analogue input test, steps 1 to 6 must be completed sequentially).

To use the test routine function

1. In the controller menu (see page 12), scroll to tSt and press the set button. 888 will be displayed.

2. Press the set button to enable the function buttons test. 1.0 will be displayed (firmware U01-r02 only).

3. Press the set and def buttons to change to the relay test. rEL will be displayed.

4. Press the down button to enable the relay test.

5. Press the set and def buttons to change to the analogue input test. AnA will be displayed.

5 Installation

Positioning the Cabinet

The cabinet is heavy, use caution when positioning it. Ensure the cabinet is empty when moving it around. Do not move a loaded cabinet.

ChillerLocation

The location of the chiller may be the single most important decision that will extend its life and ensure economical, high performance. We recommend that you put the chiller in the coolest place possible because it will use less power and last longer.

Allow adequate space for the door to open and close properly. Self-closing doors have internal torsion bars pretensioned at the factory, and must be unobstructed. Ensure the cabinet sits on a level surface so that the door shuts and correctly seals. Level footing also prevents the condensate tray from overflowing.

Ventilation Ensure there is always at least a 50mm gap around the back, top and underside of the cabinet. Keep the ventilation slots in the front panel clear at all times, never store cardboard cartons or other objects in front of the chiller.

BeforeOperating

Ensure both rear spacers are rotated outwards and fully tightened. This will provide the necessary air gap at the rear of the cabinet for correct operation.

Power Cord The chiller has a flexible power cord fitted with a 3-pin plug, which exits the rear of the cabinet at floor level. Pull the power cord around so that it’s not trapped before you position the cabinet.

WARNINGEnsure the cabinet is empty when moving it. Do not move a

loaded cabinet.

CAUTIONTo prevent over heating and conserve energy, ensure air flows

freely all around the chiller - including front, back, top and underside (minimum 50mm gap).

Shelves

The chiller is supplied with four wire shelves and one solid bottom stainless steel shelf.

Bottom Shelf The solid bottom shelf is fixed into place on the floor of the chiller. It is important that this shelf is always in place as it directs the interior air circulation.

Wire Shelves The wire shelves may be fitted at different heights to suit various products. Each shelf is held in place with four shelf clips, which engage in the shelf support strips. The support strips are numbered for easy location of shelf clips.

To fit the wire shelves

IMPORTANTFor correct chiller operation, the solid bottom shelf must

always be in the bottom of the chiller.

1. Unpack the shelves and shelf clips from inside the cabinet.

2. Establish the desired position for the shelves and securely engage a shelf clip in each of the shelf support strips.

3. Sit the shelves onto the shelf support strips.

Isolating Electrics

Use the isolating switch to turn off electrics to the cabinet and refrigeration cassette without unplugging the cabinet from the wall. The isolating switch is located on the right hand side of the refrigeration cassette compartment.

To isolate the electrics

1. Open the door and undo the two fixing screws from the top of the front panel. Pull the front panel out to remove.

2. Switch off (O) the power at the isolation switch, located on the RH side of the refrigeration cassette compartment.

1. Remove the front panel and isolate the chiller from the power supply (see page 30).

2. Remove the diffuser by squeezing it until it is released from the aluminium housing, and then push the diffuser out of the way.

3. Rotate the LED tube until the pins on the ends of the tube align with the slots, then slide it out.

4. Fit a new LED tube. Ensure the LED tube is fitted with the ‘Power’ end at the top. Note: If present, the pointer at each end of the tube should be set to the “0” position.

5. Refit the diffuser by slipping the back section into the housing, then squeezing and snapping the front section of the diffuser into place as you work down the length of the light.

Sign Light B600G-2 only. The sign unit is lit by one 11 Watt T8 LED tube (Ø26mm x 600mm), which can be replaced by removing the front sign panel.

To replace the sign light

1. Remove the front panel and isolate the chiller from the mains power supply (see page 30).

2. Remove the sign assembly. Lift the assembly up and off the sign sides and unplug it from the cabinet.

3. Remove the sign top cover by undoing the fixing screws from the top of the sign assembly.

4. Slide the clear front panel (and artwork if present) up and out of the sign assembly.

5. Undo the two inner lampholder fixing screws from the rear of the sign assembly.

6. Loosen the two outside screws (vertical slot screws) and slide the lampholder brackets (and LED tube) to the bottom of the vertical slots.

7. Rotate and remove the failed LED tube.

8. Fit the new LED tube.

9. Slide the lampholder brackets (and LED tube) to the top of the vertical slots and tighten the outside screws (vertical slots screws).

10. Screw the two inner screws back into the assembly to fix the lampholder brackets (and LED tube) in place.

11. Refit the clear front panel (and artwork if present) and screw the sign top cover back onto the top of the sign assembly.

12. Plug the sign assembly back into the cabinet and slot the assembly back onto the sign sides.

Electrics

The cabinet junction box assembly, mains isolation box assembly and surge protector assembly are located in the refrigeration cassette compartment. Remove the refrigeration cassette to access these assemblies.

CabinetJunction Box

The cabinet junction box contains electrical fuses and connectors, the LED light power supply, and the night blind relay and over-ride switch. The cabinet junction box is attached to the RH side of the refrigeration cassette compartment.

Mains IsolationBox

The mains isolation box assembly is made up of a rocker switch and a mains supply flexible power cord (see Figure 7 below). It is used to isolate the chiller from the mains power supply without the need to access the wall plug.

The mains isolation box assembly is located on the right hand side of the refrigeration cassette compartment, above the right hand side light junction box. It can be accessed by removing the top and bottom fixing screws.

Before attempting any work within the mains isolation box ensure the chiller is disconnected from the mains power supply (see page 30).

SurgeProtector

The surge protector (see Figure 8 below) protects the chiller from voltage spikes and eliminates possible electromagnetic interference. The Schaffner EMI filter regulates the supplied voltage before feeding it into the refrigeration cassette. The surge protector assembly is mounted to the right hand side interior wall below the mains isolation switch.

Before attempting any work within the surge protector assembly ensure the chiller is isolated from the mains power supply (see page 30).

Doors

The chiller is fitted with one self-closing RH hinged swing door. The hinging can be reversed to LH if required (see page 38 for details).

Alignment If the door is out of alignment, realign it by releasing the bottom hinge bracket that is provided with slots, enabling the bottom of the door to be moved sideways.

Replacing theGasket

The one-piece door gasket clips into the door frame and runs around the perimeter of the door. You can remove the gasket by peeling it from the door frame, starting at a corner (see Figure 9 below).

If the gasket is out of shape after you fit it, use a hair dryer to heat and reshape it.

Adjusting DoorTension

The door has an internal torsion bar, pretensioned at the factory, that lets the door self-close. If necessary, the door tension can be further adjusted by rotating the capstan mounted in the top hinge bracket (see Figure 10 below).

When the door tension can no longer be adjusted, consider replacing the torsion bar (see page 37).

To adjust the door tension

1. Slowly release tension on the capstan by turning it with a Ø2.5mm steel rod and rremove the split pin.

2. With the aid of another Ø2.5mm steel rod, increase the tension by turning the capstan in the direction that the door closes.

3. When you have the desired tension, re-insert the split pin through the hole in the hinge bracket to lock the position.

4. To check door tension, hold the door open about 100mm and let it go. It should gently close, with the gasket forming an airtight seal with the cabinet.

Replacing theTorsion Bar

When the door tension can no longer be adjusted, you might want to replace the torsion bar.

To replace the torsion bar

1. Remove the door from the cabinet (see page 35).

2. Carerfully lever out the top bush from the door frame, and pull the old torsion bar out from the door frame. The end of the torsion bar will need manoeuvring to allow the flat hook end to clear the hinge hole.

3. Remove the existing capstan and bush from the old torsion bar.

4. Thread the capstan, complete with bush, over the round hook end of the new torsion bar. Ensure the aluminum tube moves freely up and down the torsion bar.

5. Fit the new torsion bar assembly into the frame. When the torsion bar is correctly installed, the capstan should not turn.

6. Lightly tap the capstan and bush into the hinge hole until the bush is flush with the door frame.

7. Refit the door to the cabinet, adjust the tension (see page 35) and re-fit the split pin.

Hinge Reversal The cabinet is supplied with the door hinged on the RH side. If required, the hinge can be swapped to the LH side to allow LH door opening (see steps below). Some spare parts are required to complete the procedure (see table below).

Introduction The refrigeration cassette is a bottom mounted, electronically controlled removable cassette.

For major servicing or transportation, the refrigeration cassette unplugs and pulls out of the cabinet. Some minor servicing can be performed without removing the refrigeration cassette.

The model and serial number are both printed on the unit rating/serial number label attached to the cassette (see Figure 11 below). Before ordering spare parts take note of these numbers.

CassetteRemoval

Follow the steps below to remove the refrigeration cassette.

To remove the refrigeration cassette

1. Open the door and undo the two fixing screws from the top of the front kick panel. Pull the kick panel up and out to remove.

2. Switch off (O) the power at the isolation switch, located on the RH side of the refrigeration cassette compartment.

3. Undo the two fixing screws from the cassette electrics box cover and remove.

4. Disconnect all of the plugs from the cassette electrics box.

5. Rotate both unit lifting levers outwards at the same time to lower the cassette.

6. The refrigeration cassette can now be pulled out from the cabinet. When refitting the cassette, ensure the cassette gasket seal is in good condition and the cassette lifts up and seals correctly against the cabinet.

CassetteElectrics Box

Assembly

The cassette electrics box assembly is mounted to the front of the refrigeration cassette and contains the EMS controller and transformer, the mains supply socket, and panel mount socket connectors (see Figure 12 below). Four of the sockets are visible behind the front cover, with the remainder attached to the back cover.

Due to the confined space within the cassette electrics box, plugs may come loose as a result of movement and vibrations. Take care when refitting to ensure all plugs are securely attached to the correct sockets.

To access the cassette electrics box assembly

1. Isolate the chiller from the power supply (see page 30).

2. Disconnect all plugs from the cassette electrics box panel.

3. Unscrew the four fixing screws from the perimeter of the cassette electrics box and pull the box out from the refrigeration cassette.

4. Disconnect the five plugs from the back cover sockets.

5. To remove the back cover, unscrew the four fixing screws from the corners of the back cover.

CondenserFan

The condenser fan assembly is made up of an EC fan motor, a fan blade and mounting brackets which can be replaced when necessary.

The condenser fan runs during the compressor ‘on cycle’ and blows warm air out the back of the chiller. Note: Cassettes manufactured prior to June 2013 may include a condenser fan reverse function.

If the fan stops for any reason, check all connections to ensure no plugs have come loose. The condenser fan is connected to the yellow supply socket on the back of the cassette electrics box assembly.

The fan motor, fan blade and mounting brackets are removed from the refrigeration cassette as a complete assembly. The fan blade, fan motor and mounting brackets can then be replaced.

It is important that the fan blade and/or fan motor is replaced with the same part to ensure correct alignment and refrigeration performance. Fan motors should be tightened to 2.1Nm.

1. Isolate the chiller from the power supply and remove the refrigeration cassette (see page 41).

2. Detatch the electrics box (see steps 1-4, page 42), unscrew the four fixing screws from the side of the cassette cover and lift the cover from the cassette. Place aside.

3. To create space within the refrigeration cassette interior and gain easier access to the fan assembly, carefully lift the evaporator tub and support with a foam block (or similar), and pivot/rotate the condenser coil forwards.

4. Remove the fan assembly (fan motor, fan blade, mounting brackets) from the condenser fan shroud by unscrewing the four fixing screws from the mounting brackets.

1. Remove the condenser fan assembly (see above).

2. Remove the screw and washer from the centre of the fan blade, and lift the blade from the motor.

3. Replace with new motor and reattach fan blade. Tighten the blade to 2.1Nm. Ensure the correct fasteners are used (serrated head screw and 12mm flat washer).

4. Reassemble cassette and test.

1. Remove the condenser fan assembly (see previous page).

2. Unplug the fan flexible cord (red connector plug) from the rear of the cassette electrics box.

3. Unscrew the mounting bracket fixing screws from the condenser shroud.

4. Detatch the fan motor from the fan mounting brackets by removing the three screws from the mounting bracket.

5. Replace with new motor and reattach fan blade. Tighten the blade to 2.1Nm. Ensure the correct fasteners are used (serrated head screw and 12mm flat washer).

6. Reassemble cassette and test.

EvaporatorFan

The evaporator fan assembly is made up of a high speed EC fan motor and fan blade, both of which can be replaced when necessary (see Figure 13 below). The evaporator fan flexible cord has a white plug.

The evaporator fan will start approximately one minute after the chiller is plugged into the mains power supply and switched on. It will blow air through the evaporator coil and into the chiller after approximately another minute.

Before replacing fan parts, check all connections to ensure no plugs have come loose. The evaporator fan is connected to the white supply socket on the rear of the cassette electrics box.

The fan motor and fan blade are fixed to the evaporator shroud via the brackets. The shroud (complete with fan motor and fan blade) can be lifted off the evaporator tub once the refrigeration unit cover has been removed.

It is important that the fan blade and/or fan motor is replaced with the same part to ensure correct alignment and refrigeration performance. When refitting or replacinig fan motors, ensure the blade screw is tightened to 2.1Nm.

To access the evaporator fan assembly

1. Isolate the chiller from the power supply and remove the refrigeration cassette (see page 41).

2. Detatch the electrics box (see steps 1-4, page 42), unscrew the four fixing screws from the side of the cassette cover and lift the cover from the cassette. Place aside.

To replace the fan motor

1. Follow the above steps to access the evaporator fan assembly and remove the fan blade.

2. Lift the evaporator shroud (complete with fan motor) from the evaporator tub. Carefully flip over and place back onto the evaporator tub.Note: The evaporator and control probe flexible cords may restrict movement when lifting the shroud from the evaporator tub.

3. Free the fan flexible cord by cutting the cable ties and removing from the evaporator tub edge putty.

4. Remove the three screws from the fan mounting brackets and lift the fan motor from the bracket.

5. Attach to the replacement motor.

6. Reattach the fan motor to the mounting bracket and take care to re-cable the fan and temperature probe flexible cords back onto the mounting bracket (to prevent high frequency vibration).

7. Flip the shroud (complete with fan motor) and place back into the evaporator tub. Trace flexible cords back through the evaporator tub edge transition putty and back into the electrical box area. Ensure that the putty fills all gaps around the evaporator tub edge transition.

8. Reattach fan blade and tighten to 2.1Nm. Ensure the correct fasteners are used (serrated head screw and 12mm flat washer).

9. Reassemble cassette and test.

Compressor The compressor is located at the front of the refrigeration cassette, beside the condenser coil. If the compressor is causing excessive noise check the mountings to ensure there is no damage to the rubber or the washers, nuts and screws.

Before replacing the compressor, check all plug connections and ensure the compressor electrics are operating correctly (see below). The compressor must be supplied with consistent voltage over 220 volts, Ensure the voltage does not drop at start-up. If the voltage does drop, ensure the unit has a direct power supply (not from a multi-box or extension cord).

CompressorElectrics

The compressor electrics box is located on the front of the compressor (see Figure 15 below) and can be accessed by removing the refrigeration cassette (see page 41).

The cover on the electrics box is removed by unscrewing the fixing screw and unclipping from the compressor. Note: The start capacitor is located at the back of the refrigeration cassette (see Figure 16 below), not in the electrics box.

IMPORTANTTo eliminate possible vibration noise, ensure no pipes touch the

evaporator tub bottom surface, evaporator tub support legs, plastic base, and condenser assembly (see Figure 14 below for

The EMS Advanced controller is located within the cassette electrics box assembly, which is attached to the front of the refrigeration cassette. Refer to Figure 17 below for termination details.

To access and remove the controller

1. Remove the front panel and isolate the chiller from the power supply (see page 41).

2. Loosen the four fixing screws (two on each side) from the EMS controller holder and slide off the cassette electrics box.

3. Detatch the wires from the rear terminals.

4. Remove the four fixing screws from the faceplate of the EMS controller, and pull the controller from the spacer.

5. Service as necessary and refit.

Door Switch The chiller is fitted with a door switch which tells the EMS Advanced controller how often the door is opened. A small magnet in the door frame activates the switch. A cable connects the switch to the EMS controller via an inline connector located behind the wall panel (see Figure 18 below).

To remove the door switch

To test the door switch circuit

1. Isolate the chiller from the power supply (see page 41).

2. Trace the door switch cable back to the interior wall, and remove the wall grommet.

3. Pull the inline connector plug and socket through the hole, and disconnect the door switch cable plug from the socket.

4. Unscrew the two fixing screws from the door switch and remove from the door switch bracket.

5. Refit the replacement door switch and connect via the inline connector, refit the grommet into the interior wall and fix with fixing screws.

1. Isolate the chiller from the power supply (see page 41).

2. Gain access to the rear of the electronic controller (see page 47), and disconnect the switch from the rear of the electronic controller.

3. Measure across the two door switch wire ends . While measuring, open and close the cabinet door. The measurement reading should alternate between 0Ω (or very close to 0Ω) (door closed), and infinate Ω (door open).

Control Probe The control probe is cable tied to a bracket on the evaporator (see Figure 19 below).

To replace the control probe

CondenserProbe

The condenser probe is protected with insulating tape and attached to the side of the condenser coil (see Figure 20 below).

To replace the condenser probe

1. Remove the evaporator shroud (see page 44).

2. Detatch the probe from the evaporator fan shroud bracket and trace the probe cable back to the cassette junction box. Unplug from the cassette junction box.

3. Following the same path as the original probe, fit the new probe with cable ties as necessary. Ensure the probe cable is securely plugged into the rear of the cassette junction box and that it is cable tied to the evaporator fan shroud bracket.

1. Remove the front cover, isolate the chiller from the power supply and remove the refrigeration cassette (see page 41).

2. Remove the electrics box cover, detatch the electrics box (see steps 1-4, page 42), unscrew the four fixing screws from the side of the cassette cover and lift the cover from the cassette. Place aside.

3. Remove the insulating tape from the probe and detatch the probe from the side of the condenser coil. Trace the probe cable to the cassette junction box and unplug it.

4. Following the same path as the original probe, fit the new probe with cable ties as necessary. Ensure the probe cable is securely plugged into the rear of the cassette junction box, securely fixed to the side of the condenser coil and fully covered with insulating or cork tape. The probe must not protrude more than 5mm from the condenser coil elbow.

IMPORTANTTo prevent interferrence from the electrical box, the condenser

probe must not protrude more than 5mm from the condenser coil elbow.

Cleaning

Cabinet Periodically wipe the inside and outside of the cabinet with a damp cloth, taking care to keep moisture away from electrical parts. As with any maintenance, ensure the chiller is isolated from the power supply before cleaning.

CondenserCoil

To ensure trouble-free performance, we strongly urge monthly cleaning with a soft brush to remove dust and fluff. A more thorough cleaning is required by qualified service personnel every six months. The condenser coil must be kept clean for efficient and reliable operation.

To clean the condenser coil

WARNINGIsolate the chiller from the power supply before cleaning the

condenser coil.

1. Remove the front panel and isolate the chiller from the power supply (see previous page).

2. Clean the condenser coil with a soft brush.

Controller Alarms Diagnostic Charts

Alarms signal unexpected operational changes in the chiller. When an alarm is activated, use the following charts to assist with fault diagnosis and service as necessary.

Door OpenAlarm

The door has been open for 2-3 minutes. An alarm sounds, but stops when the door closes again.

If the door remains open for longer than 3 minutes, such as when loading product, the alarm stops and the EMS Advanced controller turns off the compressor. The compressor starts again when the door closes.
