Gathering Around the Word

Chiming of the Hour

Welcome & Announcements: David Muffett

Prelude: Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise The Avett Brothers

(Please reflect upon the lyrics as the song is played)

There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light

In the fine print they tell me what's wrong and what's right

And it comes in black and it comes in white

And I'm frightened by those who don't see it

When nothing is owed or deserved or expected And your life doesn't change by the man that's elected

If you're loved by someone, you're never rejected

Decide what to be and go be it

There was a dream and one day I could see it

Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it

And there was a kid with a head full of doubt So I'll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There's a darkness upon you that's flooded in light

And in the fine print they tell you what's wrong and what's right

And it flies by day and it flies by night

And I'm frightened by those who don't see it

There was a dream and one day I could see it

Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it

And there was a kid with a head full of doubt

So I'll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There was a dream and one day I could see it Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it

And there was a kid with a head full of doubt

So I'll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light

In the fine print they tell me what's wrong and what's right There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light

And I'm frightened by those that don't see it

Call to Confession: Michael Spencer

Prayer of Adoration & Confession: Michael Spencer

Loving God,

Many times we get caught up in our daily routines of school, work, & play and ignore your

presence in our lives. We only ask for your help when we need it. We don’t understand that we

need you all of the time and that you want us to be in relation with You through the good times and

the bad. Help us to notice your presence. Open our eyes so that we may see you. Open ears so that

we may hear you. Open our mouths so that we may share your word. Open our hearts so that we

may share your love. Through Christ the risen Lord we pray, Amen.

Hearing the Word

Prayer for Illumination: Evan Kessler

PSALM 31:1-5, 15-16: Evan Kessler

1 In you, O LORD, I seek refuge;

do not let me ever be put to shame;

in your righteousness deliver me.

2 Incline your ear to me;

rescue me speedily.

Be a rock of refuge for me,

a strong fortress to save me.

3 You are indeed my rock and my fortress;

for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,

4 take me out of the net that is hidden for me,

for you are my refuge.

5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;

you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God

15 My times are in your hand;

deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

16 Let your face shine upon your servant;

save me in your steadfast love.

Responding to the Word

Response Hymn: Better is One Day Matt Redmon

VERSE 1: How lovely is Your dwelling place,

Oh Lord Almighty

My soul longs and even faints for You

For here my heart is satisfied, within Your presence

I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

CHORUS:

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere (REPEAT CHORUS)

VERSE 2:

One thing I ask and I would seek,

to see Your beauty

To find You in the place Your glory dwells

One thing I ask and I would seek,

to see Your beauty To find You in the place Your glory dwells

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

BRIDGE:

My heart and flesh cry out,

For You the living God Your spirit's water for my soul

I've tasted and I've seen,

Come once again to me

I will draw near to You

I will draw near to You

Better is one day X 3

Than thousands elsewhere

Affirmation of Faith: Bailey Jordan

From a Brief Statement of Faith

In life and in death we belong to God.

Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit,

we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust

in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to

the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing

the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all

to repent and believe the gospel. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign

love, God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God's image, male and female, of

every race and people, to live as one community. We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the

giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept

ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of

Christ, the Church. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in

death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to

the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

(Please be seated.)
