KINDNESS
This month First Kids Elementary is focusing on the Fruit of the Spirit, Kindness. God is kind to us even though we don’t deserve it. Because of His love for us, we can be kind to everyone. Jesus modeled kindness for us, but He also commanded it. It’s part of the second most important commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. This month we have four great stories from the Bible to help us understand what kindness looks like.
In Ephesians 4:32 Paul writes to the church in Ephesus “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Maybe there is someone you’ve been working on forgiving. May God help you forgive that person this February of 2021.
In the book of Ruth God gives us a great example of how we can show His love to our family. Ruth demonstrates great love and compassion for her mother-in-law, Naomi, and then Boaz does as well for Ruth and Naomi. It’s a great love story that brings us King David and ultimately our Savior, Jesus.
In Matthew 5:41, Jesus describes how to go the second mile for those who persecute us in the Sermon on the Mount. “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two.” God wants us to strive for peace with each other, which may require some sacrifice on our part.
At the end of the month, First Kids Elementary will explore the well-known parable of the good Samaritan in Luke 10. Jesus responds to the expert’s question of how he inherits eternal life and then his question of who justifies as his neighbor with this parable. It’s such an important story for us to understand because it impacts where we spend eternity. God commands us to be kind to EVERYONE; and there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
