Reginald Wayne Sharpe Jr. is the Campus Pastor of the House of Hope-Macon.
He is a native of Lithonia, Ga. Reginald is a 2013 Cum Laude graduate of
Morehouse College with departmental honors in the disciplines of religion and
philosophy. While attending Morehouse, Reginald served as the president of
both the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel Assistants Program and the
Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society, won the 2012 Otis Moss Jr.
Oratorical Contest, voted Religious Leader of the Year for two consecutive
years, and named the 2012-2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar. Reginald is
also one of the proud charter members of the Academy of Young Preachers.
Among his many distinctions, he is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Inc. In May of 2016, Reginald graduated from Vanderbilt University Divinity
School in Nashville, Tennessee where he earned a Master’s degree in
Theological Studies. He is now preparing to earn another Master’s degree and
then he will pursue a Ph.D. in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric.
Although Reginald is mostly known for his preaching ministry, those closest to
him know that he loves spending time with his family, laughing with his friends,
and finding delicious seafood or soul food to enjoy. Reginald is a faithful
member of The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia
where Rev. E. Dewey Smith Jr. is the Pastor/Teacher. Most importantly,
Reginald is a humble child of God who seeks to reach people with love and
minister to them with head and heart. Reginald’s favorite poem is called, “I’d
Rather See a Sermon” by Edgar Guest. One line reads, “And the lecture you
deliver may be very wise and true, but I’d rather get my lesson by observing
what you do. For I may misunderstand you and the high advice you give, but
there is no misunderstanding, how you act and how you live.” In December of
2015, Reginald married Ms. Brianna Sullivan. They are newlyweds and still
enjoying the honeymoon season of their marriage. It is Reginald's desire to
always keep the honey in the moon.

CHURCH HISTORY
THE BEGINNING Early in 1922, a small group banded together and began having services as a mission. They first met in the home of the late Booker T. Williams, 308 East Federal Street, Burlington, New Jersey. As the group increased, they began having services in the Clarkson Street Hall. The success of the mission inspired the group to try to organize as a church. With this in mind, the following members of the group went to Mount Holly, joined Second Baptist Church and received their letters of transfer: Reverend Wesley L. Gregory, Brothers Lindsay Gregory, John Burroughs, Fred Lang, Tilson Williams, William Mack Burroughs, Vanderbilt Burroughs and Henry Neilson. The action on the part of these men set the stage for Second Baptist, Mount Holly to become known as the "Mother Church" of Tabernacle. The name "Tabernacle" was suggested by Sister Sallie E. Walton and was promptly adopted by the members. The Permanent Council of the Bethany Baptist Association of South Jersey later recognized the mission as "Tabernacle Baptist Church." PASTORIUM Under the able leadership of the late Reverend Wesley L. Gregory, the first pastor, who served faithfully for thirteen years, (1923-1936), Tabernacle Baptist Church soon became one of the leading sanctuaries in the City of Burlington for people from all walks of life. It is for Reverend Gregory that the fellowship hall has been named. After Reverend Gregory was called to a church in Jamaica, New York, the church was served by Reverend J. J. Young and Reverend W. H. Holman, who served one year each. The Reverend J. H. Stafford and Reverend V. L. Millines, both served five years, respectively. Then a licentiate of Tabernacle, Reverend Pompey H. Houston, was selected from the membership to be ordained and served as pastor of this flock for thirteen years. In 1961, Reverend Richard W. Jones was called to be the pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He came with his wife, Ethel B. Jones, to settle in Burlington from Cape May, New Jersey. They were blessed with two daughters, Leslie and Jennifer. Rev. Jones served for 49 years until his death in June 2010. Deacon Robert Preston, Chairman of the Deacon Board, led the church from June 2010 to 2011 with a steady hand. During this time, a search committee was established to find a new pastor. On January 1, 2012, Deacon Willie Reid was installed as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Under their leadership, they ensured a smooth transition to the next phase in the history of the church. On September 25, 2012, the congregation called Rev. Cory L. Jones, D. Min. to serve as Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church. His wife, Torri Jones, joined him. On October 31, 2013 they were blessed with a daughter, Dakota Aubrey Jones. In his official role as Pastor–Elect, Rev. Jones preached his first sermon on Communion Sunday on December 9, 2012. On April 14, 2013, he was installed as Pastor.
