About Us

The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Americans, Serbs and their friends through planned projects, social and humanitarian activities in order to develop and foster better future generations and provide aid for underprivileged families in need. Although there are many humanitarian organizations and associations, help often doesn't reach the most jeopardized. Due to unnecessary administration, missing information and slow decision making, the delivery of aid arrives too late to the final consumers, or not at all. It is a sad and embarrassing, but true fact that more than 18.000 children daily die around the world because of starvation and malnutrition. There, amoblind and deaf. Ambitions

Our mission The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Serbian people through our projects and humanitarian activities, in order to develop better society for future generations.

Why Serbs for Serbs? We wanted to alleviate impaired spirit of Serbian people in togetherness and brotherhood help through humanitarian work and social aid.

Who do we help? We help Serbian families who live in the Balkans, have five or more children and live in terrible poverty. Under terrible poverty we define absence of one or more basic factors required for living: food, clothes, shoes, and safe space for living.

Why do we help? We believe that there is a basic need for one human (or a group) to help others in distress. A help is not only human virtue but also a Christian responsibility. By focusing our help on families with many children, we directly affect on their stirring toward becoming independent from social-dependable government programs.

What are our long term goals?

• family is ready to support itself daily and manage to pay all required expenses;

• their children are encouraged to continue with school and raising their own family;

• our donors are satisfied with the activities and they are ready to help other families;

• our organization is satisfied with the results;

• family is ready in the future to become our donor and if necessary help other families that are in need of help.

Who do we need in organization? We need members and donors that will secure financial stability through supporting our programs and activities in the future. Donors may join our daily activities within the organization in order to coordinate our work better. We also need volunteers ready to donate several hours per week for actual work within the organization. Activities of volunteers and their specific tasks would be determined by the required projects and their personal interest. From that group of volunteers we would look for future leaders of organization.

HOUSE UPGRADING FOR FAMILY SRDIC BEGINS

Members of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs visited on Saturday, August 2, a six-member family Srdic from the village Amajlije near Bjeljina in the Republic of Srpska. Unfortunately, the family lost the wife and mother Dragica who suddenly died and left behind husband Marinko (45) and children Bojan (17), Milan (13), Ljubisa (12), Mirjana (10) and the youngest Dusko (1). Thanks above all to the donors and friends of the organization from Canada, Serbs for Serbs provided a donation in the amount of EUR 2.200, which would be used for the house upgrading.

Father Marinko is unemployed, but he works as a butcher when there is a need for one in the village or surrounding area. The family has an income of KM 110 (EUR 55) of social benefit, which is not enough to sustain the needs of five minor children. After Marinko was forced to leave Drvar in 1995, he settled near Drina in the hope for a better life.

The situation worsened after his wife died three months ago. In our conversation with the family we came to a conclusion that the family needs upgrading of the house. They have a temporary tin roof, which is leaking, and causing the moisture on the walls.

Unfortunately, during the floods when the rivers Sava and Drina spilled out, the Srdic family along with people from several other villages near Bjeljina were hit by it.

The donation SfS brought will commence a new project of building a house for the Srdic family. Charity organization Serbs for Serbs calls upon all the donors worldwide to get involved into the new action of helping the Srdic family, and other families in the Republic of Srpska who need our fraternal help.

HELP FOR THE FLOODED FAMILIES IN KRAJINA

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs helped at the beginning of August a six-member family Culibrk from Dvor on Una in Krajina. The family consists of parents Zoran and Marija and the children Dragan (9), Djordje (8), Marko (4) and grandmother Darinka. They suffered a damage during the May floods. The help of our organization consisted in buying the freezer and providing the books for school in the amount of EUR 600.

The family lives in the village Matijevici, the parents are unemployed, and their income comes from agriculture, child benefit and wages. The family house in near the river Una, which spilled out during the floods, and provoked a damage in the house. On that occasion the laminate which was recently placed was ruined.

They should get help because of the damage, so Zoran asked us to provide a freezer and the books for school, as that was urgent.

Zoran is working on the construction for a wage, but because of the flood, he will have to spend a lot of time in the sanation of his house. The price of the freezer was EUR 400, while the books were approximately EUR 200. The books will arrive after August 20, so the children will be ready for the new school year. Family Culibrk is grateful to all the donors who enabled us to help them.

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is continuing the action of helping the endangered Serbian families across Krajina in September.

CHARITY TOURNAMENT IN SABAC FOR FLOADED FAMILIES

From August 14th until 16th a charity tournament in mini football was organized in Sabac in elementary school Stojan Novakovic in the suburb Sipurske Livade. A total amount of 41.000 dinars was collected for the great action of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs – Fight against the floods. 13 teams participated in the tournament. Young people from Sipurske Livade and other people of good will contributed to the tournament and provided technical help.

The organizers came up with the idea during the tragic May floods when our nation showed great solidarity in the defense of Sabac, and they wanted to express their gratitude to those who participated in the defense. There is an idea that the tournament should become traditional.

We use this opportunity to thank the organizers, and all the participants who contributed to this sport-charity action. FIGHT AGAINST THE FLOODS CONTINUES!

They have electricity and sewerage system done, but they need additional help in order to be able to move into the house. They need the most construction material and carpentry, and afterwards furniture and appliances. They are currently renting in Niksic.

Mihajlo is a hard-working person, he has a flock of goats and sheep, and thus manages to sustain his family.

The family plans to close the house and put pvc before the winter.

His children are helping him around the flock. The host is also helping the Ostrog monastery. Anastasija is pregnant with their tenth child. Therefore, we agreed with Mihajlo to speed up the works around the house so that the family could move in.

We call upon all the donors and people of good will to take part in the project of helping family Scepanovic.

DAIRY IN NOVO BRDO COMMENCED ITS WORK

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs in the beginning of May 2014 joined the project of building and equipping the diary in the village Izvor, Novo Brdo municipality on Kosovo and Metohija, commenced by the Charity organization of the Rasko-prizrenska Eparchy Majka devet Jugovica. This project opened the opportunity to engage local inhabitants in the building of the object and work of the diary, and thus enabled them to provide the elementary conditions for their families. Charity organization Serbs for Serbs provided the kitchen elements (sink, stove, refrigerator, gloves) and bathroom elements (washing machine, water heater, washbasin, toilet), as well as the material for connection of water supply and sewerage systems in the total amount of 228.000 dinars.

No surrender!

Our friends from the fraternal organization Majka devet Jugovica, thank to God and many people of good will, managed to finish the building of diary, and together with the agricultural production and goat and sheep farm partly provide the sustainable work of public kitchens. The broad significance of this project is huge, especially considering the location of the diary. Novo Brdo municipality is an economically underdeveloped area, and any kind of help and support is welcome.

The Rasko-prizrenska and Kosovsko-metohijska Eparchy through its organization Majka devet Jugovica has been active for many years in keeping the Serbian people on Kosovo and Metohija. We hope that these projects, both the realized and planned ones will be of great significance and motivate as many people as possible to stay in their homes and try to keep them. We call upon all the people to support the work of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs and its future projects for survival and better life of our people on Kosovo and Metohija.

CHILDREN WITHOUT PARENTS AND THE HOUSE

In the night between August 5 and 6 the water came in the area of Celinac and loaded huge burden on the 19-year-old Danijela Zivkovic. The girl who was growing up in the poverty and uncertainty tragically lost her mother Petra Zivkovic, who died in the torrent in Crni potok in the village Barakovac, and now she must take care of her brother Bojan (1998) and sister Nikolina (2001). Her troubles are even bigger because these three children don't have their own house nor enough money for existence. With a single mother who was working for a wage they spent the childhood in other people's houses.

The ray of light into their life was brought by the leadership of the Celinac municipality headed by the chief Momcilo Zeljkovic who gave Danijela a job in the municipality service on the counter. About ten days after the funeral of her mother, Danijela is trying to overcome her emotions and stay calmed.

- This tragedy disrupted my plans, but I hope that the troubles will come to an end, and that someday I will get the chance to continue schooling and create conditions for a normal life like the most of my friends already have – says Danijela, who graduated from the high school in Celinac, hospitality and commercial department.

Her greatest concern for the moment is to provide the schooling of her brother who enrolled in auto mechanics apprenticeship in Celinac high school, and her sister who enrolled in the seventh grade of the elementary school Milos Dujic.

Danijela explained that they currently live in a rented weekend cottage in Gozna, which could be sold in any time. The cottage is not equipped properly, and its electric installations are only partly finished. It is especially bad during the winter and the low temperature.

Page 37: Serbs for Serbs Report August 2014

The chief of the Celinac municipality offered to settle them in the local school in Strbe, but she refused. The family couldn't have their privacy in the school which is a public object. Although it is rented, the cottage in which they are settled now is emotionally important to them because it reminds them of their mother.

Danijela thanked everyone who helped in the most difficult period. She particulary emphasized the help of the representatives of Celinac municipality and Center for social work, neighbors Rasa Babic, Darko Cosic, Veljko Savic and their family members and her friend Marija Markovic.

Danijela was strengthened due to the life struggle. She hopes to get a permanent job, because it would be the first time in her life to have a regular salary each month. She plans to save money to build a house. However, the family will need a lot of help to get their house. Danijela's future salary and the “increased” child benefit of 180 KM won't be enough to provide all their needs. These children consider a luxury a lot of things that their peers reject as an old thing.

Danijela Zivkovic Account for payment All the donations for buying the house for family Zivkovic can be directed on the account of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs in the Republic of Srpska with the reference “Help for family Zivkovic, Celinac”.
