CIP Members and Friends,
Happy Senior Center Month! You know that
September is National Senior Center Month and you
know CIP likes to celebrate. This year’s theme is
Senior Centers: The Key to Aging Well. Senior
centers have the knowledge, programming and re-
sources to make a difference in people’s lives, “…the
virtual key to unlocking the components that will give
an individual the opportunity to age well.” CIP defi-
nitely has the keys!
It’s time to kick off another exciting program
year. All of our classes, workshops and programs will
be coming back to their regular schedule and are bet-
ter than ever and we are looking forward to another
great year. Will this be the year that you finally try
pottery? Brush up on your computer skills? Maybe a
few piano lessons? Perhaps you’ll register for that Ag-
ing Mastery Class everyone is always talking about,
or check out the Stretch class that everyone raves
about. We have the keys…come get them!
Join us for our Annual CIP Open House on
Thursday, September 12
th
from 10am-2pm and see a
sampling of all of our classes and find out what new
things we will offer this year. You can reconnect with
old friends, meet new people, and get to know our
amazing staff. Bring a friend, there’s plenty of room
for everyone.
Don’t forget to check out our website
www.centerinthepark.org, like us on Facebook and
follow us on Instagram to see pictures, flyers, updates
and stories. Oh…and if you aren’t sure how to access
those things, no worries, there’s a class for that!
Keys….lots of keys….I’m looking forward to seeing
you.
Yours in our Mission,
Reneé C. Cunningham, MSS

SEC Members Prepare for Fall & Review Spring
NOW IS THE TIME TO JOIN US: We look forward
to the cool fall breezes and the beautiful autumn
leaves. The fall would be a great time to join SEC.
Most of the time, the weather is good and you will
enjoy the time we spend outdoors. My doctor says the
best thing for a senior to do is keep moving. It is also
a plus to be a member of a community and we are a
caring community and would love to have new
members. You do not have to be a scientist. If you can
cook the most basic meal, you can do the testing.
Even if you are unable to walk you can stay inside
and learn testing or just make phone calls and help
with office tasks. Hurry up and join us and attend our
fall picnic! Stop by and see Fred Lewis on your way
to lunch and he will design a place for you. You can
reach him at 215 848 7722 ext. 218.
SCHUYLKILL WATER SHED CONGRESS
Keeping informed and continuing education has been
a hallmark of the SEC. We always enjoy attending the
Watershed Congress this year one of our newest
members Henrietta Jackson attended the conference
for the first time here’s what she had to say:
I enjoyed learning how pipeline impacts local
watershed from issues with mariner pipelines,
violations, spills, wells, and the effects on property
values. It was an eye opener to learn that micro
plastics are an extremely high pollutant and the
impact of land use on micro plastics in the Schuylkill
watershed. It was good to hear how helpful rain
gardens are to the environment in our communities.
We engaged in open round table topics from gas and
chemical developments, collecting data and
monitoring of stream, restoration projects.
Mainly the sessions stressed the importance that
everyone is entitled to have clean air and drinking
water. For me the conference was informative and
interesting. I enjoyed it! – Henrietta Jackson
Speaking of drinking water and micro plastic.
Recently, I saw a PBS report on micro plastics and
how plastic bottles are destroying the environment. I
encourage everyone to look for the repeat on CNN
United Shades of America Kamu Bell’s report on
Philadelphia & Chester, Pa. Environmental Issues. It’s
so important for all of us to see this, they get into
Environmental Justice and the effects it has on the
world.

The Advisory Council had a very successful
fiscal year, September 2018 through June 2019. The
Council members worked tirelessly to raise funds to
offset the expenses of Center in the Park. Our
successful fundraiser included, the Bake sales, Fashion
show, Pretzel sale and CIP Tee shirts. The council
members thank, memberships, staff & friends of CIP
for your support during our Fundraiser. We're a team
of folks who work well together, very committed, love
what we do and have a great relationship with one
another. We will resume our meetings in September
Advisory Council’s mission: To increase involvement of
CIP members in all phases of Center Life. Meet
concerns, ideas & questions & present to the
Administrator. Plan and run special sponsored
activities, to raise money which will enhance the
quality of life for CIP members.
Thank you very much for your support!
