Since the 2015 elections, three new advisors, Mr Darryl David,

Mr Gan Thiam Poh and Dr Koh Poh Koon,have joined the town as advisors. The Town Council will now manage 898 residential blocks in AMK GRC and Sengkang West SMC. Residents affected by the new boundaries will be sent a notification letter by mid-November on how they can make payment on their S&CC.

Town Improvements

A tensile membrane shelter was recently completed at Punggol South Park. It shelters a multi-purpose hardcourt with seating around the perimeter.

Under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme, the RC corner at Block 463 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 was repainted, and new tables and seating installed.

A new elderly fitness corner was installed at Block 570 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3.

By the end of the year, Sengkang West will enjoy a new playground

Kayu Better lightingRecent improvements to the multi-storey car park at Block 546A Serangoon North Avenue 3 replaced all the lighting within the building with LED lights. LEDs are more energy efficient and longer lasting – just one of the many things the Town Council does to reduce expenses and increase efficiency.


Upgrading in the private estates

New playgrounds and fitness equipment atSaraca and Tamarind Roads

After work commenced in June, new facilities for play and fitness at these roads will be completed by the end of October. These two projects are part of NParks’ island-wide upgrading projects. The equipment to be installed was selected by the Neighbourhood Committees, after they reviewed the three proposals.

Better footingA footpath that has become well utilized by residents in Sengkang and Buangkok was constructed at the end of September to give pedestrians better accessibility and safety. This footpath links residents from Fernvale to Gerald Drive for a shorter journey by foot.”


Helping the elderly cope with the haze

Once the haze hit again, grassroots leaders and volunteers sprang

into action to keep the elderly in the town safe. Led by our advisors, they distributed N95 masks to seniors – both door-to-door and through the Senior Activity Centres in the town. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong personally distributed a hundred masks in Teck Ghee.

The N95 mask is the only mask

that provides protection against PM 2.5 pollutant particles in the air – but only if worn correctly. Volunteers also conducted demonstrations on how to wear the mask for proper protection.

A total of some 29,000 masks and 6,000 micro-ventilators have been distributed across Singapore. The Town Council has also put into place its Haze Management Programme to look after its cleaners.

If the PSI reaches over 100, cleaners are required to put on their masks according to the Haze Management Program.

and a lot of that work was done by the people who live in the town!

interviewed in the making of the plan. They gave their thoughts on what had been done in the last five years, and on what has been planned for the next five years. This is an exercise done every five years, but it

As its name suggests, Ang Mo Kio - Sengkang West 2.0 is all

about the next version of our town. More convenient, better connected, and featuring the latest that modern hardware can provide, the details of what’s coming up in the next five

years were launched in the Ang Mo Kio - Sengkang West 2.0 book at the end of August.

There will be big upgrades like the new Mayflower and Lentor MRT sta-tions. An upgraded polyclinic in Ang Mo Kio Central. New connections through

paths and park connectors to turn Ang Mo Kio into a cycling town. And in the estates, work to install new shelter, facilities and barrier-free access will continue. Teck Ghee estate in particular will get a $38.3 million upgrade to turn it into a green neighbourhood!

With a clinic, a senior care centre, a gym and facilities for arts and

enrichment, the new Ci Yuan CC has it all. Of course, it also introduces a new place to eat for the residents of

Hougang Avenue 9 – it comes with a food centre as well!

frequently. This block, including

the park, is properly cleaned and

maintained. The credit must go to

the cleaners behind the scenes.

In particular, I wish to express my

appreciation to Mr Farhad and Mr

Baccu, both very hardworking work-

ers. I often see Mr Farhad cycling

everywhere to make sure things are

in order. As for Mr Baccu, I see him

cleaning up the park, clearing dead

leaves and even using a ladder in his

work. My thanks to them.

The Town Council’s collaboration with students from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School has reached out to households across the town to spread the message of energy conservation. It was rewarding for both the households, and the students. Here’s what some of the girls had to say!

Held at the open space between Blocks 330 and 332 at the end of

August, Prime Minister Lee officiated at the launch of the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) for 1,200 households in Teck Ghee.

These households will see improve-ments like new sewer pipes, repairs to ceiling concrete, upgraded toilets, and new doors and metal grilles. Households with senior citizens will also get the Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) programme, which will include grab bars and slip resistant floor tiles in toilets.


Registration for the AMK-in-Bloom Community

Garden Competition 2015 took place through the month of September. 33 gardens from 8 divisions took part, resulting in 8 gold, 12 silver, 8 bronze and 5 consolation prize winners.

Gold Winners receive $500 worth of gardening vouch-ers, while silver, bronze and consolation winners won $300, $200 and $100 worth of garden vouchers respectively.

The judging criteria com-prised two main parts which

focused on Community Involvement (planning, set up, maintenance and manag-ing of garden) and Quality of Garden (garden design, theme, appearance, land-scaping creativity etc).

Judges noted an overall improvement in the quality of

the gardens in maintenance, coupled with good housekeep-ing, cleanliness and tidiness of storage area. There were also more variety in the plants, orchids and edibles in this year’s competition.

Winners will be notified by post by the end of October.

A resident had recently sent feedback that his family was very impressed

with the speed the Town Council had responded to the issue he raised on having updates of work done in the lifts.

The town council recently installed acrylic boards at lift lobbies and the inside of lifts for better visibility to update residents on improvement works, block washing or other relevant announce-ments by government agencies.

Kio Avenue 6. These improvements are only possible with feedback from those living in the area – so if you have an improvement in mind, tell the Town Council!

Adviser, Dr Koh Poh Koon, added that the notice boards in lifts acts as an update and newsflash to residents of any rectif ication of feedback received and their feed-back are taken seriously.

With the completion of acrylic boards at the lift lobbies of 101 blocks in Yio Chu Kang, the town council tar-gets to complete installation of acrylic notices inside the lifts by October 2015.

翻新工程的进度和组屋清洗时间表，大获居民赞赏。议员许宝琨医生表示，电梯里的告示板能让居民了解一些反馈问题, 意见及建议等等。市镇理事会预计将在2015年10月前，将为在一百零一座电梯和电梯大堂安装通告亚克力板。
