The 50th annual Kensington Labor Day Parade andFestival washeld on Monday, September 4. This year’stheme was “Inspiring Stories”, and it celebrated fictionaland real-life stories that inspire the community.

Marian Fryer will be GreatlyMissed by CommunityMarian Fryer, of Marian’s Connections, along-time WK Chamber member passedaway on Saturday, September 9, 2017 after a lengthy battle with illness. Her family isplanning a service to celebrate Marian’s lifeand legacy.
Marian was often called the “Mayor ofWheaton” due to her years of active workand commitment to Wheaton.

This joint speed networking extravaganza drew more than120 guests on August 17. The Greater Bethesda Chamberof Commerce and the Greater Silver Spring Chamber ofCommerce do a joint speed networking event in the summer each year, and we joined in the fun this year.

Also on Labor Day weekend was the “Paint the Town”Art Show was held at Kensington Town Hall/Armory.The reception and artist’s awards ceremony was onSaturday, and drew a huge crowd of art-lovers.

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) safeguards and protectsMaryland’s work environments and encourages improvements inworkplace safety and health. The Division of Labor and Industry’sEmployment Standards Service (ESS) unit handles employmentissues, including enforcement of laws concerning wages and time off.
Tralene Putman has over 15 years of Labor Law experience, and oversees the Division of Laborand Industry, ESS. Her experience includes enforcement in the areas of wage and hour, wagepayment and collection, employment of minors, flexible leave and other related laws.
