September Rain Ends Drought
One drop of rain.
That one drop of rain was the first step for the revival of Semiahmoo Park.
On September
22, 2011, rain fell
for the first time
in a month. Early
in the morning,
the ambassador
of Semiahmoo
Park witnessed
the event.
According to
weather reports,
the rain was
unexpected.
The drought
lasted for a
month prior to
the heavy rainfall.
Many plants in
the area did not
receive enough
water for an
elongated period
of time; many
became
malnourished and
died.
“I was horrified
when I took a
stroll in the local
park one
morning”, says
Ashley, a resident
of a nearby
neighbourhood.
“The plants were
all dead, and
everywhere the
grass was yellow
and dry.”
Ashley examines
the damage done
by the drought.
“I pray that all
the trees, the
plants, and the
grass return to
their original
green colour.”
Ambassador Jae
of Semiahmoo
Park is now
looking forward
to the revival of
the plants.
“This recent
rainfall gives us
hope that not only
the plants, but
also the animals
inhabiting the
park can slowly
recover.”
The workers of
Semiahmoo Park
Centre are now
more motivated
than ever to
restore the park
to its original
beauty.
But that’s not all.
Not only are the
workers taking
action, but also
plenty of
volunteers are
working just as
hard to keep the
park up and
running.
This new
exhibition in
Semiahmoo Park
Centre reminds
everyone of the
drought that
nearly destroyed
the park. It also
reminds people of
the importance of
plants in our daily
lives.
