RULES & REGULATIONS CHANGEBoard Approved 7/3/12

Effective 30 days after Board Approval

Article XII: Enforcement of Regulations- Section 6, Item B.Parking and Vehicle Control Violations

Added:

# Regulation Penalty CategoryB.10.1 Violations in excess 3

of 15 miles per hour above the speed limit

This addition of this violation may result in a $50 fine and 30day loss of privileges (including barcode)

BAR CODE LANES:When you use the bar code lanes for either entrance or exitplease be sure to wait for the green light before moving forward. Also, do not advance to the scanner until the bar is completelydown. Trying to “piggy back” and hurry through the gateincreases the risk for an accident and also creates additionalwear and tear on the bar code mechanically. There really is nohurry. We appreciate your cooperation.

TRAFFIC DATA BEING COLLECTED: We are using a “Pico” traffic counter to collect traffic data. Wewill be able to determine how many vehicles pass a certain point;at what speed; at what time of day; and what day of the week. Thedevice is portable so we can check a variety of locations. Valuableinformation is provided for our traffic patrols.

55+ UPDATE:Brookridge has filed a plaintiff’s affidavit requesting a hearingdate for a motion of final judgment. This action will also proba-bly move along at “judicial speed”, as slower than slow! However, we definitely are making progress and moving forward.

LIENS AND FORECLOSURES:Aggressive action by the Board of Directors has resulted in moreliens being settled. Brookridge has also foreclosed on severalproperties.

CHEER UP:The heat will be over soon and our snowbird friends will beginto arrive.

Sunny weather and no rain, has increased attendance at theAqua class.

The weather is always a concern of visual astronomers sincethe clouds block our views of the night sky. But there areother ways to observe when the heavens are obscured, suchas they are during much of the summer evenings here inFlorida.

Many observatories allow public access to their robotic tele-scopes via the internet. Like a library lending a book, theseobservatories allow you to schedule time on their telescopesand then email you the resulting photographs. Some evenallow real-time viewing showing you what the telescope islooking at on your monitor. The best part about it is that it istotally free and if you know nothing about astronomy, this isone way you can get started. The Bradford RoboticTelescope high atop Mount Teide in the Canary Islands is justone of these places. Just go to www.telescope.org and signup for a free account.

Harvard University working in conjunction with NASA hasdeveloped a similar program athttp://mo-www.harvard.edu/OWN/ including training on usingtheir instruments. The Microsoft Foundation has created afree virtual telescope at www.worldwidetelescope.org. Youcan Google the phrase “free robotic observatories” to findother such resources.

We will have our first meeting on the first Thursday ofSeptember. At this time we have a lot to talk about and toconsider. One thing is most of the committee has been hav-ing health problems, including myself. It all comes down toone thing. We need some help from our residents or fromwhere ever we can get it. Also, we can use some donations,as not much has been coming in. I have been searchingaround at different nurseries and flea markets trying to findout what is good for us to plant and what is not good in ourarea.

To any residents that live on or near the medium, we coulduse some help in maintaining the bushes planted. This willnot take long and perhaps as little as one half hour a month. The plantings need weeding and in the dry season water. Ifyou would be willing to help with those near your home it willbe greatly appreciated. Some residents have been helpingus to do this and you can tell as their plants look very goodand we appreciate the help that they have given us. If youcan help please call me at 597-3296 and let me know thatyou will do this and where you live. I have a chart and canmark that area as being taken care of.

We would like to have our residents, if interested, come outour first Thursday meeting and perhaps give us some sug-gestions or just sit and listen to what we are planning. Yourideas and help would be appreciated.

Our only interest is to make our medium and common areasmore beautiful. Something that we can all be proud of.Some time in the fall we will be shutting the fountain downto paint and clean it out as it has been on over a year andneeds some sprucing and plant replacing.

BROOKRIDGE SUPPORTS OUR TROOPSBy Maxine Kolbe

Our sincere thanks to all the individuals living in Brookridge, and to all the wonderful clubs that have donated items andmoney to support our men and women in uniform. Due tohealth reasons we need to cut back on the amount of carepackages we will be able to send.

As of August 10th, we have stopped accepting donations forthe care packages. Ed and I started this in 2004 and it hasbeen a humbling experience. We never expected so manywonderful people to help but were pleasantly surprised. Most of the items we have left will be sent to the troops aswe are able. Those not used will be donated to charities inHernando County. We thank the Board of Directors ofBrookridge, past and present for allowing us to set up a tablein the office for collections and for the space in the com-pound to store and pack the items.

We received many wonderful cards and letters of thanksfrom our troops. We pray for them daily and wish them well.GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!THANK YOU BROOKRIDGE
