The Encyclicals and Voting — Bishop Cozzens
You may recall the beginning of a series of presentations entitled “The En-cyclicals and Voting” that started in February. Unfortunately, the Covid pan-demic ended the progression of that series. However, months have passed and we are slowly emerging from isolation. Now we are ready to proceed with a presentation “Doing Good and Avoiding Evil” by Bishop Andrew Cozzens . This topic was selected from the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops as part of the program, “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship”. Please join us for Saturday morning Mass at 8:00 a.m. September 12, 2020 , concelebrated by Fr. Jerry Dvorak and Bishop Andrew Cozzens. Fol-lowing Mass, Bishop Cozzens will proceed with this insightful presentation.
Creative Ways to Help VEAP With the cooler months approaching and with COVID still a reality, VEAP is seeking your sup-port.
Outside of food and financial assistance • Household paper products (especially paper towels and toilet paper) and household/personal care items (laundry soap, shampoo, disinfectant wipes, hand/body soaps, face masks, sanitizer & vinyl gloves). Many of our visitors receive SNAP benefits to purchase food when they’re not using VEAP’s Pantry and unfortunately, SNAP cannot be used to purchase these basic need items. They always fly off our shelves and are consistently in high demand. To donate these products, please visit Door 4 behind our building any-time Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. No need to make an appointment. • Cloth masks. VEAP counts on the support of 3,500 volun-teers a year and we require all individuals within our facility to wear a mask. Many of our drive-up food visitors also re-quest these face coverings. We are welcoming homemade, cloth masks at Door 2 of our building (Staff and Volunteer entrance) any time during regular business hours. If you have further questions about how to best support VEAP at this time, please reach out to Caley at her email Caley, [email protected], Marketing and Digital Manager, to start a conversation. Thanks for your support!

A Thought to Ponder The salvation which God offers us is the work of his mercy. No human ef-forts, however good they may be, can enable us to merit so great a gift. God, by his sheer grace, draws us to himself and makes us one with him. .

Spirit of God, fill our hearts with a desire to seek truth and rejoice in beauty.
Help us to know what is pleasing to you and to understand what is right and good in your sight. Give us the spirit of learning that we may please you
by our thoughts and love you in your creation. Give all teachers your constant encouragement
and guide them in their work. Spirit of God, make us effective witnesses of your truth
to all whose lives we touch. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
Amen. For Students
2 Peter 3:18 May they grow in grace and in the knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Glory be to him now and to the day of eternity!
Amen.

Financial Update
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Despite what you see as our bottom line for July 2020, there is good news in our financial picture. First off “thank you” to everyone who continues to support St. Peter’s and our mis-sion to serve our members and the broader community in jus-tice and charity! Our electronic giving and our envelope giving continue to be strong because people continue to give elec-tronically and mail in their envelopes. There are even plans in the works to place a cabinet near our south entrance so peo-ple can drop off envelopes when entering the building. You will notice our bottom line for 2020 did not benefit from a large draw on our endowment for July. This is because in the past months the giving is allowing us to have funds in the bank to cover our costs. Lastly, you will notice our costs are down. So there is good news to share. Also, I look forward to sharing our total 2019 –2020 Annual Report with you. It, too, is good news. As always we trust in Jesus to provide what we need when we need it. In Christ’s Peace, Business Administrator

September 6 & 13, 2020
St. Peter’s is my parish, so although I am retiring from my position as Administrative Assistant at the end of October I will still be able to see most of you. That is, once Covid 19 is over and we can return to ‘normal’. God has blessed me in so many ways throughout the years. When Ann Garland hired me she said that she hoped I’d stay for at least 19 years and I said I’d try. I made it! It’s been 21 years. We have had great priests and staff along the way. The greatest joy has been helping each of you when you came in to the office or called with a question on the phone. I hope you found me to be helpful in whatever you needed. Now that I am at that magical age I can spend more time with my grandchildren and with Covid 19 my neighbors have said my yard looks the best it has ever looked. Thank you all for the opportunity of getting to know you. May God keep you safe through these times of change. Take good care! Theresa
Tony Good and Theresa Jensen are Retiring
Congratulations Tony & Theresa on combined 60 years of work at
St. Peter’s!
Fr. Jerry, friends and fellow parishioners, I would just like to thank everyone for your support over the past 39 years. It has been my honor to serve you as custodian and maintenance man. I know you’ll show the same friendship and support to the lucky person who’ll replace me. Thank you all for allowing me to share this awesome journey with you. Tony
