10/05/14 Pastor’s Notes | Notas del Pastor 3 “Have no Anxiety at All…” Philippians 4:6-9

To the degree we focus on ourselves, the anxiety and stress increases to the degree we focus on the Lord, trust-ing in Him, we are at peace. For this reason we continual-ly say “Rest in Peace” but rather we are to live in the free-dom of the children of God sharing the one Peace of the Lord.

The violence in our society is directly due to the children of God focusing on themselves in delusions of power and control. How deep must the delusion of power be, for a person to decapitate an innocent unknown person, and even make a video of the crime! This is what Jesus ex-plains in the parable in today’s Gospel. They said “This is the heir (the son of the owner of the vineyard). Come, let’s kill him and acquire his inheritance. :Mt. 21: 33-43. All power is from God, all goodness is from Him. The Lord gives us all we need each day, and infinitely more. We need to open our eyes and ears and recognize the wonders of God and give him thanks. We need to die to the delu-sions of power and control so as to live in His Peace, now and forever. GK

English Children’s Choir

Our Parish is excited to announce the opening of a new English Children’s Choir! All Children with the ability to read and write and up to 11 years old are eligible to join. Along with learning hymns for Mass, rehearsals will also include rudiments on signing, theory and liturgy. Rehears-als will be on Fridays from 6:30PM-7:30PM beginning October 3rd. Institution of the Feast of the Holy Rosary

On October 7, 1571 , the naval battle of Lepanto took place, in which the Christians defeated the Turks. The Christians knew that if they lost this battle, their religion could be in danger and there-fore relied on the help of God through the interces-sion of the Blessed Virgin. Pope Pius V called on Christians to pray the rosary for the fleet.

Days later, the messengers came with the official news of the Christian victory. Subsequently, he established the Feast of Our Lady of Victories on October 7.

A year later, Gregory XIII changed the name of the feast day to Our Lady of the Rosary and determined it to be held the first Sunday of October (day the battle had been won). The Feast Day is actually celebrated on October 7th and some Dominicans still celebrate it the first Sunday of the month.

En la medida en que nos enfocamos en nosotros mismos, la ansiedad y estrés aumenta hasta el grado en que nos enfoca-mos en el Señor, confiando en Él, estamos en paz. Por esta razón, estamos continuamente diciendo "Descanse en Paz", sino más bien hemos de vivir en la libertad de los hijos de Dios compartiendo la Paz del Señor. La violencia en nuestra sociedad se debe directamente a que los hijos de Dios se enfocan en sí mismos en delirios de po-der y control. ¿Qué profunda ha de ser la ilusión del poder, para que una persona decapite a una persona desconocida inocente, e incluso hacer un video del crimen! Esto es lo que Jesús explica en la parábola del Evangelio de hoy. Ellos dije-ron "Este es el heredero (el hijo del dueño de la viña). Ven-gan, vamos a matarlo y adquiramos su herencia (Mt. 21: 33-43) Todo el poder viene de Dios, todo bondad es de él. El Señor nos da todo lo que necesitamos cada día, e infinitiva-mente más. Tenemos que abrir nuestros ojos y oídos y reco-nocer las maravillas de Dios y darle gracias. Tenemos que morir a los delirios del poder y control a fin de vivir en su paz, ahora y para siempre. GK

Coro de Niños (Inglés)

Nos complace en anunciarles la apertura del Nuevo Coro en Ingles de Niños. Todos los niños con habilidad de leer y es-cribir y que tengan hasta los 11 años, son elegibles de ser parte de este coro. Además de aprender cantos para la Misa, los ensayos, también incluirán primeras nociones de canto, teoría y liturgia. Los ensayos se llevaran a cabo los Viernes a partir del 3 de octubre de las 6:30pm-7:30PM. Institución de La Fiesta del Santo Rosario

El 7 de octubre de 1571 se llevó a cabo la batalla naval de Lepanto, en la cual los cristianos vencieron a los turcos. Los cristianos sabían que si perdían esta batalla, su religión podía peligrar y por esta razón confiaron en la ayuda de Dios a través de la intercesión de la Santísi-ma Virgen. El Papa San Pío V pidió a los cristianos rezar el rosario por la flota.

Días más tarde llegaron los mensajeros con la noticia oficial del triunfo cristiano. Posteriormente, instituyó la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de las Victorias el 7 de octubre.

Un año más tarde, Gregorio XIII cambió el nombre de la fiesta por el de Nuestra Señora del Rosario y determinó que se cele-brase el primer domingo de Octubre (día en que se había ganado la batalla). Actualmente se celebra la fiesta del Rosario el 7 de Octubre y algunos dominicos siguen celebrándola el pri-mer domingo del mes.

October 2014 RCIA Update

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Process prepares non-baptized persons for the re-ception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirma-tion and Eucharist (First Communion). Bap-tized persons seeking to come into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church through Confirmation and/or Eu-charist may also attend these sessions. The meetings take place in the Cenacle on the second floor of the Parish Center on Sunday mornings from 8:30 a.m. until noon. October Ses-sions will meet on October 5, 19 and 26. There will be No Session on October 12 weekend due to Columbus Holiday weekend.

Please come to the Quinceañera Information Night which will take place every second Monday of the month in the Holy Family Room from 6:45PM-8:00PM.

Here you will be given all the infor-mation needed and you can also reg-ister your Quinceañera. There is a $100.00 deposit to reserve your date.

Attending the Information Night is one of the requirements to register, you must also bring their Baptismal and First Holy Communion Certificates.

Procesión Especial Sábado 25 de Octubre La Comunidad dedicada a la devoción del Se-ñor de los Milagros, realizará su procesión anual y su misa el último sábado de octubre. La procesión comienza a las 4:00pm de la tarde y termina con la Misa de las 7pm. En el Salón Redahan habrá ricos platillos Perua-nos y otras cositas típicas de Perú. Pase y dis-frute de una linda tarde. Para los asistentes a la Misa de 5:00 pm, habrá cerca de 30 espacios para estacionarse en el Centro Parroquial y en el estacionamiento de-trás de Centro Parroquial.

The Community dedicated to the devotion of El Señor de los Milagros will conduct their annual Procession and Mass on the last Sat-urday of October. The procession begins at 4:00 in the afternoon and ends with the 7:00 PM Mass. In the Redahan Hall there will be typical Peruvian Food and Peruvian articles. Health Promoters~Reminder! I am most happy to invite you to be a parish “Health Promoter” . This will be a new ministry dedicated to the whole health of all our brothers and sisters. At present time the parish has about 20 groups that promote a multitude a ways of how im-prove one’s health.

We are now coordinating with El Centro de San Martin, St. Margaret Center and the County Department of Mental Health in the development and formation of this new and vital ministry. A “Health Promoter” will receive about 12 three hour classes, and if selected to serve, will be asked to make a commitment to serve for 3 years.

During those three years of service, the ‘Health Promoter” would be asked to attend 4 development sessions a year. Please consider being a “Health Promoter”. We need about 60 volunteers—one could be you. I hope that each ministry and group would have at least three volunteers serving in this ministry .

The program will hopefully begin in October . On October 11th, in the Guadalupe Hall, we will have the Orientation Meeting from 1:30pm-5:00pm for this new Ministry. We hope to see you there!

White Mass for Healthcare Professionals October 12, 2014

Archbishop José H. Gomez will be the main celebrant and hom-ilist at the Annual White Mass for Healthcare Professionals at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles.

At the end of this liturgy, The School of Nursing of Mount St. Mary’s College of Los Angeles will be presented with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, 2014 Catholic Healthcare Service Award. Dr. Jorge Carreon will be presented with the Mission Doctors Association, 2014 Catholic Doctor of the Year Award.
