BIOGRAPHY OF DELEGATES FROM NAMALAKA (3 people from St. Joseph will be traveling to Bothell in

next few months-Pastor Christopher Chatsogola and teachers John Phiri and Angelina Emmanuel)

Part 1

Angelina Emmanuel. Angelina was born on October 10, 1965. She is a teacher by profession having gradu-

ated in 1992 from the Domasi Teacher Training College. She is the 4th born in a family of 10, 5 boys and 5

girls. Angelina is married and has 2 children; Marko, 13 and Prince, 8. She is the head teacher at Lungwena

Catholic Primary School in Namalaka Parish (which has 7 out churches ahta each have a school). She enjoys

the activities of farming and cooking. She jokes that she would like to know if she will have a chance to pre-

pare some “NSIMA” while in the US (Nsima is the staple food in Malawi made from maize (corn meal; looks and

tastes a bit like thickened cream of wheat). Please continue to pray for the serious hunger and food shortage

that our brothers and sisters in Namalaka are experiencing. Consider a donation to Caritas (Catholic Relief Ser-

vices) or Mary’s Meals that serves children lunch in the schools. Questions? Call Marie Hedden at 206-948-

5166, [email protected]. Zikomo ambuye (om-boo-yay) Thank you Lord.

SALVATION HISTORY, part 2

Last week we learned that we are part of a Chosen People. In the Old Testament, the Chosen peo-ple are the Hebrews. In the New Testament the Chosen people are the

Disciples. In our Church today, the Chosen people are the baptized.

God Sends Us Out!

Chosen people don’t just sit around feeling special.

God sends us out to work. In the Old Testament the work

of the people was to build a city where people worship

God and treat their neighbors with love and respect. In the

New Testament the work of the people is to go all over the

world and let everyone know that God has become one of

us, and the Kingdom of God is at hand! Nowadays the

work of the people is to tell everyone about God’s love and

mercy, and to help people who are sick, or hungry, or in

prison.

you longed to tell someone your story about your re-

lationship with the person you loved? St. Brendan

Parish is offering a bereavement support group

which provides you with an opportunity to share your

thoughts and feelings with others who are also ex-

KNIGHTS CORNER Each week our youngest parishioners “Little Disci-

ples” gather at the beginning of Mass and then are

lead off to learn the lessons of the Gospel. In the

past, they have had to sit on the floor, but the

Knights are please to have been able to purchase

and donate enough tables and chairs to accommo-

date up to 24 young religious scholars. We wish to

extend warmest thanks to our fellow St. Brendan

parishioners who have made this donation possible

by supporting our various fundraising activities. If

you want to be a part of our next exciting project, join

the Knights by calling Kevin Van Hollebeke at

RESPECT LIFE—PRO-LIFE BILLBOARDS Pro-life messages can and do change minds. Where once the majority of

people through abortions were okay, the tide has turned and the majority

now stand with us. This is due, in part, to efforts like the billboard people,

“Prolife Washington” who through their messages have made a difference in

the live of the Unborn and their mothers. Educating the public via billboards

is an important means in the campaign to convince everyone that human life

is sacred. Please pick-up a baby bottle after Mass the weekend of October

1/2 and start saving your SPARE CHANGE FOR LIFE. The money from your

parish will purchase billboard space in your area. We will let you know where

these billboards are located through October and November. St. Brendan

donated enough money during the last campaign to pay for 5 billboards.

Let’s again allow our change to change hearts and to build a Culture of Life.

Thanks so much for your support. Please return your bottles in 3 weeks—

October 22/23. Questions? Call Sam Affronte at 425-481-5296.

YOUNG AT HEART SENIORS Parishioners (60+) are invited to the

“Young at Heart” meeting on Tues-

day, September 27, from 11:00 am

—1:00 pm in the Church Narthex.

This will be a “sharing” meeting; of

summertime adventures and ideas

for future gathering. Bring a Potluck

dish to share for lunch. Please con-

tact Donna 425-488-1373 if you

have any questions. Please save

the date of October 11. On that

day, 21 Acres in Woodinville will be

the location of our gathering. We

will tour the facility, learn about how

it promotes sustainable living and

enjoy a special lunch prepared

there.

DOOR GREETERS WANTED Want to be in-

volved with St

Brendan and com-

mit the least

amount of time due to your busy

schedule? We have just the oppor-

tunity for you. Be an Outside Door

Greeter for St Brendan. We need

volunteers at all of the masses

(5:00 pm Sat., 8:00 am, 10:00 am

and 12:00 pm on Sun.). Responsi-

bilities would require that you be

standing outside your assigned door

to greet visitors and parishioners 20

minutes prior to the mass for which

you have volunteered. Contact

Joyce Von Feldt by phone 410-207-

7292 or email [email protected]

for more information or to volunteer

to help.

ST. BRENDAN GARDENS Have you taken the bumpy rid along the southern boundary (NE192nd St.)

of the church property lately? If so, you’ll be amazed at the fantastic job the

volunteers did in clearing out debris, dead and undesired plants, etc.

You’ll also notice that they ran out of time and energy to complete the whole

length of the block. On Saturday morning, October 8, we’ll have another

work party finish that project as well as the usual weeding, etc. in the flower

gardens. Grab your tools and join us at 9:00 am. “Gardening for God” is a

great activity for an autumn Saturday! Any questions? Call Anneliese 425-

770-2103.
