September 23, 2018
From the Pastor:
We have all watched the news coverage of the devastation from Hurricane Florence and our hearts go
out to all those who have felt its fury. Our first reaction is to offer prayers asking that God comfort
and support the residents of the Carolinas. That is a wonderful practice and I encourage you to
continue to pray for them, but in addition, I encourage you to consider a donation to help with the
recovery. Listed below is the address for Catholic Charities central office in Baltimore.

one for you, you can leave that ministry, but you will know that you have given a ministry a chance.
Besides, we have donuts and coffee today and that is always a “sweet” thing.
See you at mass,

Maximizing a church's role as a child-safe environment begins with making adults more aware of the ways children
and adults interact with each other. The program we use in the Archdiocese of Atlanta is The Protecting God's
Children program by VIRTUS, which educates and trains adults (clergy, religious, teachers, staff, volunteers, and
parents) about the dangers of abuse, the warning signs of abuse, the ways to prevent abuse, the methods of
properly reporting suspicions of abuse, and responding to allegations of abuse.
By using best demonstrated practices for training, the Protecting God's Children program helps make churches safer
for all people—especially the vulnerable.
You may register at ANY training session that is offered by the Archdiocese. Here is the
website: VIRTUS.ORG.
If you have any questions, contact Robbin Spinner at [email protected] or

CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF NORTH GEORGIA “How shall I make a return to the Lord for
all the good He has done for me?” - Psalm 116:12 We are called to be good stewards of the gifts God has given us. Good stewards often have assets they can share with our parish endowment fund. A simple way is naming the parish endowment fund as a beneficiary of your IRA or 401K account. Simply contact the retirement account provider for a change of beneficiary form. This is easy and costs you nothing during your lifetime. For more information contact Juliet Greco at the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia at [email protected] or 404-497-9440. Five Week Series Presented by Father Brian
Bufford
Monday Evenings in McNamee Hall
by the Fireplace
Beginning September 24, 2018
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
09/24/18: Jesus the Messiah—
Why does Jesus call Himself the
“Son of Man?” If Jesus is God’s
Messiah, why does He undergo
suffering?
10/01/18: The Resurrection—
How do we know the Resurrection
happened? Does the Resurrection
have any significance in human
history?
10/08/18: The Cross—How do
we understand the sacrifice of Jesus
in light of world religions? What
does it mean to “offer it up?” How
do we understand the “wrath of
God?”
10/15/18: Why We Worship
Jesus—How did the Apostles make
the transition from following Jesus
as God’s Messiah to worshipping
Him as God Himself?
10/22/18: Understanding
Mary—How does Mary “point to
Jesus?” What does Mary tells us
about ourselves?

All of us need the reminder found in today’s Gospel: To be great in God’s Kingdom is to be the servant of all. In
Jesus’ time, children were without status or power, possessing no legal rights. Who are the people without power or
status in our society that Jesus is calling us to serve? Do we do so willingly? What might your family do to remember
that those who are great in God’s kingdom are those who willingly serve others?

Join a CLOW Team!Join a CLOW Team! Children’s Liturgy of the Word is designed to help
children grow in their understanding of Scripture as well
as the rituals we experience in the Liturgy of the Word.
Age appropriate language and reflections on the
Scripture help the children apply the message to their
everyday life. Through CLOW, the children will
experience the proclamation of the Word through
movement and song as well as through quiet reflection
listening to God’s Word.
When is it? On most Sundays of the year at both
the 9:00 am and 10:45 am Masses.
Where is it? In the Chapel. The children are called
forward after Opening Prayer for a blessing and then
dismissed to the Chapel. During the Offertory, the
children will return to their families.
What is the Time Commitment? Just ONE
Sunday a month. You are already at Mass, so very
little time is needed outside of your normal Sunday
worship routine! Prep time is just 5-30 minutes prior
to Mass depending on your role that week.
How do I join a CLOW Team? Contact
Rosemary Potts at 678-832-1229 or
[email protected] to get started with this
ministry.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
A big THANK YOU to the
wonderful St. Peter Chanel
Community for making our
annual St. Vincent de Paul
Donation Drive a success!
We filled two trucks once again with
your donations of clothing, toys and
household items. Some items will go
directly to people in our community,
while others will be sold in SVdP
Thrift stores. Proceeds go to
support programs and services that
help individuals and families break the
cycle of poverty and achieve stability
and self-sufficiency.
Remember that you can always drop
off clothing and other small, non-
breakable items in the bin behind the
church.
On September 27th, the Church
celebrates the feast of St. Vincent de
Paul, who knew that “God had sent him
to bring good news to the poor.”
Together with your gifts and donations,
the members of the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul continue his work and
mission in our parish. We appreciate
your support!
Interested parishioners are always
welcome at our monthly meetings.
