Congratulations to Project Winners Morgan County 4-Hers came home from State Fair with several Grand Champions as well as Reserves and lots and lots of Unit Champions and Reserves. Start planning for the 2021 4-H year by selecting projects in which you can learn new skills and/or show off your special talents. Many youth participated in Project Workshops during the past year where they learned about the exhibit requirements as well as skills necessary to complete their project. We will continue to offer workshops in 2021 and will announce dates as soon as we have them scheduled. But, also you need to let us know what project training you would like to help learn new skills. Call with your suggestions and as always – we love to have parents and/or others volunteer to assist in presenting workshops.

DID YOU KNOW? The 4-H Pledge and Motto were approved by Congressional Act in 1922.

The 4-H clover is pictured in a stained glass window in the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. 4-H offers more educational leadership and citizenship activities and programs than any other extracurricular youth program in the country. Tips for Lawn Care in Fall and Winter Water trees, shrubs, lawns, and perennials during prolonged dry fall and winter

periods to prevent root damage that affects the health of the entire plant. Water only when air and soil temperatures are above 40 degrees F with no

snow cover. Established large trees have a root spread equal to or greater than the height

of the tree. Apply water to the most critical part of the root zone within the dripline.

Dry air, low precipitation, little soil moisture, and fluctuating temperatures are characteristics of fall and winter in many areas of Colorado. Often there is little or no snow cover to provide soil moisture from October through March. Trees, shrubs, perennials and lawns under these conditions may be damaged if they do not receive supplemental water. The result of long, dry periods during fall and winter is injury or death to parts of plant root systems. Affected plants may appear perfectly normal and resume growth in the spring using stored food energy. Plants may be weakened and all or parts may die in late spring or summer when temperatures rise. Weakened plants also may be subject to insect and disease problems.
