The early church father Augustine wrote, “a Christian should be an alleluia from head to foot.” In other words, embody praise with all that you are! This month, many kids in our country are going back to school. Many may be facing new needs and challenges, or perhaps the inability to go back to school. We can be grateful for the gift of education and our ability to receive values and the gift of faith. There are many things we can praise the Lord for! And receiving education is a reason to be an Alleluia! Alleluia (Hallelujah) means “praise,” specifically, “Praise the Lord.” As you get back to your student life, can you think of some other things you are grateful for? How can you praise the Lord with all your heart, mind and body? Let’s see if this video inspires your mind and spirit!

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CATHOLIC PARISH
How can we be an Alleluia as a family?
What rituals and traditions help us be grateful and praise the Lord?
After your discussion, come up with two things you can do this month to being more intentionally grateful to God. Let us know your ideas here!
For family discussion:
Be an Alleluia from head to toe!
You can read and hear Sunday readings at any time! Get them on your smart device!
Read them at usccb.org or listen to them at daily readings
We are working on making Fr. Kevin’s homilies available online. Stay tuned!
Whether this is your first time going to this
school or you are returning to a familiar
experience, this can be a stressful time for the
family.
It is normal to be nervous and busy this time of the year.
However, we must remember to be grateful.
Don’t forget your spiritual preparation!
The gift of being able to participate in our education or the education of
others is a good thing. We can be thankful to God for it!
As you think of school, make a list of the gifts that allow you to prepare
for and go to school.
Perhaps you can speak and comprehend English easily, or you can afford to have good meals,
or you have the support of your family, or you can wear comfortable clothes…take your time
to enumerate all the gifts you can think of.
Now, close your eyes take a deep breath and give thanks to God.
Every time you worry, think of all these gifts you listed; take a moment of silence to
breathe deeply and give thanks to God. You can ask your Guardian Angel to help you
remember to talk to God and be grateful, especially when times are difficult!
When is the Next Family Faith Sunday?
It will be on October 7th:
What do the Saints have to teach us as families?
Come learn the stories of the Saints and experience what they teach us today!
We look forward to seeing you there!

Prayer to Begin a School Year (from the Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers)
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being, for mind,
body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search
for understanding; and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Patron saint of adolescents and of stress relief
Saint Padre Pio was born in Pietreclina, Italy, in 1887. His family was very faithful and had him receive baptism the day after he was born.
From his early childhood, it was evident that Padre Pio had a deep piety. When he was five years old, he solemnly consecrated himself to Jesus. In his younger years he had conversed with Jesus, Our Lady, and his guardian angel. Later, he became a monk and a priest and was active in caring for the needy and he revealed gifts as a miracle worker. He received the stigmata in 1918, sign of communion with the Passion of Christ. He was canonized in 2002.
His feast day is September 23. Learn more about Saint Padre Pio here

Sunday School Programs for Children
OLG Sunday School programs are available to ALL children, regardless of religious background or the school they attend. They include the following:
“Little Lambs” Babysitting Program (ages 6 mos.–3 years old): Sunday during the 11:00 AM Mass in the lower level of Our Lady of Guadalupe School, preschool classroom. This program is mostly play-centered and may include story, prayer, song and snack. Parents/guardians enter through the school's main doors. “Lord’s Lions” (pre-school): Sunday, 10:45 AM, in the school, before attending the 11:00 Mass. Children learn about God’s love for them so they can “roar with love.” Classes involve play stations, art/craft, Bible stories, sharing, prayer, song and snack.
“Good News Bears” (Kindergarten): Sunday, 10:45 AM, in the school, before attending the 11:00 Mass. Classes involve play stations, art/craft, Bible stories, sharing and celebrating the Good News of Jesus, prayer, song and snack.
Sacramental Preparation Year One: Sunday, 9:30-10:45 AM in the school. This is the first year of a two-year preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Children learn more about the Bible, particularly the stories of Jesus and his disciples, about the Sacraments and their significance. Children attend the 11:00 Mass with their families and they participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, deepening their understanding of the Sunday readings.
Sacramental Preparation Year Two: This is the second year of the two-year preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Children not attending OLG School attend Sunday classes from 9:30-10:45 AM. OLG School students receive preparation in their classroom. All children attend the 11:00 Mass with their families and participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Parents/Guardians are required to participate in our programs. More information here.
Adventurers (3rd-5th grades): Sunday, 9:30-10:45 AM in the school. Children reflect on the Sunday Scripture readings and how they connect to their everyday lives. Particular focus is given to the Catholic Church, introduction to morality, and sacraments. 3rd and 4th graders are also invited to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 11:00 Mass.
Visionaries (6th-8th grades): Sunday, 9:30-10:45 AM in the school. Students reflect on the Sunday Scripture readings and learn how they relate to the Catholic faith, and how they connect to their everyday lives. Particular focus is given to the Bible and the mystery of God.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (1st-4th grade): The Sunday 11:00 am Mass can be a more positive and meaningful experience for children. Children are dismissed at the beginning of Mass and return at the Offertory. Focus is on one reading, a child-oriented reflection, and an activity to help the Scripture stories have more meaning in their young lives.
Family Faith Sundays: Generally on the first Sunday of the month (October-June) from 9:30-10:45 am in the Walmesley Center followed by a family Mass at 11:00 am in the church. A great opportunity to gather as families for a variety of service projects both within the parish community and with the community at large.

Family Love and Care Week!
Make a list of ways members of your family show
love and care for each other. Then brainstorm
together other ways the family might continue to
show love and care. Suggest a “family love and
care week.”
Create a list and post it on the fridge so everybody
can see it. At the end of the week, have a dinner
celebration to share what you have learned about
each other and about the experience of serving
together.
