The 11th Effie Awards Grand Gala was held successfully on the 30th of August 2019, at Waters Edge Battaramulla with Mr. Imal Fonseka, Former Effie Awards Jury head and International Effie Juror and the Group Chief Executive Officer of Fairway Holdings as chief guest. This year’s Jury was headed by Ahmed Irfan, Director, Innovations Quotient Pvt Ltd, Colombo where we had four Gold winners, Mullen Lowe Sri Lanka became the Agency of the Year, Marketer of the Year was awarded to Unilever Sri Lanka and Softlogic Life became the Brand of the Year.

NASCO Judging commenced on September 1st 2019 as of now for competing Sales Executives, Other Support Staff, and the National Sales Manager Categories which was held at Waters Edge and Hilton Residencies and which proceeded till the 5th of October 2019

This year SLIM Brand Excellence received 101 entries competing for the Main Awards and Special Awards category apart from the SME Category. We also received a large number of CSR entries for the first time in Brand Excellence. The first round judging commenced on the 19th of August 2019, and this year the Jury will be judging the entries online which is a novel implementation and a big step in terms of evolving SLIM Brand Excellence 2019 in collaboration with Conscience Integrated (Pvt) Ltd.

Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) held two Certification ceremonies on 21st of September at BMICH, in a grand style ceremony to recognize and award students who have successfully completed the SLIM programmes; Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM), Certificate in Pharmaceutical Marketing (Pharma) , Certificate in Digital Marketing (CDM) and Certificate in Services Marketing (CSM) and Marketing In Sinhala (MIS).

Ceremonies were held in the presence of Mr. Suranjith Swaris – President SLIM, Mr. Sanath Senanayake, CEO/ED – SLIM, Mr. Roshan Fernando – VP Education, Ms. Thilanka Abeywardene- VP Projects, Prof. Arosha Adikaram – Chairperson Education Reforms Committee, Mr. G S Sylvester – Senior Lecturer and Ms. Nanduni Dahanayaka, Manager – Education.

The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour of the morning event were Mr. Upul Adikari, Manager-Marketing & Communications-Hatton National Bank PLC, Past President - Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, Ms. Kasthuri Wilson - Managing Director of Hemas Transportation Sector. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour of the evening event were Mr. R M P Dayawansa, Past President /SLIM (2008/2009) , Mr. Sajith Guneratne- Senior Marketing Manager - Prima Group. The Official Career Partner of SLIM Certification Ceremony 2019 was Abans PLC. Mrs. Dulani Nissanka – Group Chief Human Resources Officer and Mr. Sriyan De Silva Wijeyeratne - Group Chief Executive Officer from Abans PLC were special invitees at the morning and evening events.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing Toastmasters Club held their annual installation ceremony on 12th September 2019 under the patronage of Mr. Suranjith Swaris - President Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing as the chief guest. The event was held at the Galadari Colombo and it was a night to remember.

The outgoing president T. M. Royston Cumine paid a tribute to the late T. M. Padmini Samarasinghe in his outgoing address and reminded the audience that “We belong to a proud tradition of Toastmasters and we indeed have a reputation to maintain.”

The new president T. M. Buddika Pitiyagedara revealed his plans for the club for the coming year and assured a fun-filled new term along with many lessons to learn and objectives to achieve. He encouraged more people to join the club as members and reap the benefits of the Toastmasters program.

‘SLIM Star Awards 2018’ was held on 12th September at Raffles Residencies, where our staff was recognized and awarded for their outstanding performance and commitment throughout the year 2018.

MOU with Sri Lanka Institute

of Advanced Technological

Education (SLIATE)

CDMOPEN DAY

Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing signed an MOU with Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) on 2nd September 2019 in the presence of Mr. Suranjith Swaris – President SLIM , Mr. Sanath Senanayake, CEO/ED - SLIM, Ms. Mihirinie Fonseka - AGM Business Development, Mr. Sachith Karunarathne - Manager Marketing and Ms. Nanduni Dahanayaka, Manager – Education, Mr. Malitha Fernando, Assistant Manager – Education Operations and Mevan Kurukulasuriya Executive – Business School and Prof. K T M Udayanga Hemapala, Director General of SLIATE and Ms. Amali Warusavitarana from SLIATE.

With this MoU, SLIM facilitates the students of the SLIATE to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Programme conducted by SLIM with the grant of subject exemptions.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing signed an MOU with Horizon Campus - Malabe on the 4th of September 2019. The memorandum of

understanding (MOU) signed between the two parties. The partnership grants the students of both institutes and staff a number of benefits.

Mr. Suranjith Swaris, President SLIM and Mr. Upul Dharanagama, Chairman, Horizon Campus signed the MOU on behalf of the respective

organizations and Chief Executive Officer of SLIM, Mr. Sanath Senanayake, Ms. Nanduni Dahanayaka, Manager Education of SLIM and other senior

officials participated at this historic occasion.

Open Day for Certificate in Digital Marketing was held recently at SLIM Business School in the presence of Mr. Rajitha Dhahanayake, CEO/ Founder of eMarketingEye Pvt Ltd and Mr. Sanath Senanayake, CEO/ED of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.

KNOWLEDGE FIRSTIn the knowledge first Expo held on 29th and 30th August 2019 @ Kandy City Center (KCC) marked the highest number of total registrations totaling 28 in an exhibition.

This fun and interactive quiz competition took place for the second consecutive year on the 19th of September 2019 at Marino Beach Hotel with over 20 teams battling it out for the grand prize. With five rounds and 10 MCQ questions each, the Marketers’ Quiz consisted of questions related to Core Marketing, Famous Brands, Global Business and General Knowledge.

The grand prize of Rs. 100,000 was awarded to South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd, whereas last year’s grand prize winners – Hemas Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd walked away with Rs. 50,000 for being the 1st runner up along with AMW Team Blue receiving a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 for being adjudged the 2nd Runner up.

The winning teams were awarded the prizes by the Chief Guest of the evening – Mr. Sujith Pathirannhe, Asst. General Manager-Brands & Promotions at Wijeya Newspapers Ltd. A token of appreciation was also presented to the head of the judging panel – Dr. Ravi Dissanayake for his valued support towards the quiz.
