Principal’s Message By Mr. George Gay
We are off to a great start with our 2019-2020
school year. It's such a joy to see our Patriots back
in school. A huge "Welcome Back" to all our
returning families and a sincere "Welcome to the
HCS Family" to all our new families!
Our school-wide Scripture for this school year is:
1 Samuel 2:2: "There is no one holy like the Lord;
there is no one besides you, there is no Rock like
our God."
Considering that Scripture verse, we have chosen
"Knowing God" as our theme for the 2019-2020
school year.
Our hope and prayer is that we can provide
avenues for our HCS families to "know" God and
to know that He truly is the One and only Holy
God. 1 Samuel 2:2 will help guide us to know Him.
I call on each family to dedicate time each day to
pray for HCS, for our leadership, teachers, staff, and
students. Pray that our Mission Statement ‘Seeking
to glorify God through Christ-centered teaching,
academic excellence and Christian service, all in a
distinctly loving and nurturing environment’, would
resonate throughout our entire school.
As we move forward with the school year, please
commit to being involved in a greater capacity at
HCS by volunteering, giving, participating, and
again, most importantly, by praying.
I am so excited that our Great and Mighty God is
faithful, and I am excited for what promises to be a
great year!

HCS Welcome Back BBQ
If you missed the Welcome Back BBQ, sponsored by the Heritage Christian School Board of Trustees, you missed a great time! The
smell of “bbq’d ‘burgers and ‘dogs” permeated the air as they were watched over so carefully by Shane Stevens and Hayward
Williams, until the supply ran out. Relishes and condiments, as well as chips and cookies were plentiful in the food line. Miss Edie and
Miss Maria made sure that everyone was greeted as parents and guests stopped by the Administration Table to pick up documents
and ask questions.

ELEMENTARY
Prayer Partners 2019-2020
Each year our elementary classes are grouped together for the purpose of building relationships
throughout the school. This year we continue our tradition of Prayer Partners. The classes meet
together on a regular basis for a variety of activities ranging from STEM activities, reading, playing
games, and most importantly learning about one another and spending time praying for each
other. This year our Kindergarten class will be Prayer Partners with both our 5th and 6th graders.
Our 1st and 3rd graders will be Prayer Partners, and our 2nd graders will be partnering with our 4th
graders.
JR HIGH/HIGH SCHOOL
Camp Oakhurst Retreat
Our JH/HS students had a wonderful time last week at Camp Oakhurst.
Students were able to develop and strengthen their relationships with each
other, with the staff, and most importantly, with the Lord.
Our Bible Study time was focused on our theme verse this year: 1 Samuel 2:2
“Knowing God”, challenging students with what Knowing God means and
how to incorporate that knowledge of Him into their everyday lives.
Camp Oakhurst is never boring and always has plenty of physical activities
that provide individual challenge, exuberant laughter, and lots of
entertainment. Check out these activities in the pictures: Paint Ball, High
Ropes Course, Low Ropes Course, Giant Swing, Swimming, and Water Slide.
Screams, groans, and laughter were heard echoing across the campground no
matter which activity was in full swing at the time.
Not only did were there individual activities, we also focused on team building
utilizing games like Capture the Flag, Soccer, and Night Crossing, which
allowed students and staff alike the opportunity to work together to
6
accomplish a goal. Having these activities at the beginning of the year will translate into accomplishing together the goals set for
our 2019-2020 school year.
How could it get any better than chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers to contemplate the week with all the JH/HS staff
and students gathered together to relax around the campfire with s’mores. Aaahhhh!
We are so thankful for all our JH/HS families and we look forward to making more memories this year with all of them!

Patriot NEON Run
Students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade are gearing up to Run/Walk our Patriot Run Course and will be looking for parents,
relatives, and friends to sponsor them. But parents, you can also contribute to the event in other ways. This event is sponsored by our
School Board so feel free to email the School Board President, Christina Burris, at [email protected] to see how
your help can make this event even more special. Enjoy the camaraderie as we cheer on the kids who are valiantly doing their part!
