Greetings Newcomers and Friends, The YWCA has been busy this summer and so has the Newcomers and Friends Club! By now I’m sure you’ve noticed that the YWCA has moved to an online registration and payment. Ann Strootman, Membership VP, has worked closely with the Y to assure a smooth registration process. Hopefully many of you have already registered through the link Ann emailed you. Please note her email address is [email protected]. If you haven’t registered, I would advise doing so now to assure making it into the directory published each Fall. There’s also a link button on the YWCA website’s Newcomers and Friends’ page. If you can’t navigate it, you can go to the YWCA front desk and their staff will help you register. Secondly, we have created an online sign-up for interest groups. A big shout out to Ann Strootman and to Debbie Ridder, Interest Group VP, for coming up with this wonderful idea! Signing up online in advance assures that you won't miss a single email from Interest Group Chairs about all the wonderful events and outings planned. Each year, the chairs are instructed to create a new roster for their interest groups to assure it's current for the calendar year. So, be sure to sign up now online or plan to sign up at our Interest Group Showcase at our September 14th Friday with Friends. Rest assured, we will have a print out for each interest group chair of who has signed up so you can double check to make sure you’re on the lists of the groups that interest you. It’s a win-win! Lastly, we have changed our Facebook presence with a Public Facebook page (newly launched in early July thanks to Jen Johnson, Marketing VP) and a Closed Facebook page (our existing one). We hope you’ll join them both! The public page, which will serve as an outreach to new-to-the-area residents, is open to anyone, and will be under the administration of Jen. The closed page will be under the administration of Janet Perkins who reports to our Communications VP, Madhu Banerjee. This will be open to current members and past members only. It will serve as an inward communication between one another, just as it has since its inception. Need F.A.V.O.R.S. (Friends Are Very Organized Rendering Services)

Ever wish there was someone to accompany you to a medical procedure or doctor’s appt.? Need to drop off your car but no one is available to pick you up? Would you like someone to be with you when a delivery or repairperson is expected? Hurt your foot or leg and wish you could get some small shopping done? Need a ride to the train station? Need to pick up medicine at the pharmacy and just not feel well enough? Well, here is what F.AV.O.R.S. can do for you!

Any member of our club can utilize this service. This is how it works! As soon as you know you have a need for a favor, contact the F.A.V.O.R.S. Chair, Patti Natale, via email at [email protected] with the particulars:

• when (time and date)? • where? • how long will the favor take? • is there flexibility in the start time of your favor?

The greater the lead-time provided to the group, the greater the likelihood the favor can be covered. The Chair will get in touch with the F.A.V.O.R.S. members via email and see who can do the favor. The Chair will then notify all that the favor is covered. In this way, the member in need is saved from making multiple calls and the F.A.V.O.R.S. volunteers are spared from having to say “No”.
