The Goshorns Step by Step

We’ve had some big changes. Daniel and Matthew

both moved back to the States on the 18th of August

to attend college, and Daniel will be getting married

on November 7th. I can’t believe were time has

gone. We are truly blessed that the boys put The

Lord ahead of all things and that Daniel is marring a

woman of faith in Audrey. I was a little worried about

Katherine not having her brothers around since they

are very close, but to my surprise she seems very

happy to have taken over Matthew’s room:) She also

has started back to school which takes up a lot of her

time. A big help is that Matthew face times with her

on a regular basis. Jennifer and I have also stayed

busy which has helped us adjust to the empty nest.

We started out the month with a family vacation

which you can read about on the next page. As you

know we had a team from the States last month

which helped construct a church building in Lucma;

about 3 – 4 hours from us. After the boys left I

returned to Lucma to check on the progress and

discuss starting discipleship classes in January. There

are about 17 pastors and parishioners interested in

this which excites us. We still need funds for the

discipleship material. The kids in the area were

excited to see me and asked about everyone on the

team. The director of the school that we used for

kids club told me he now has a better opinion of

Christians. Relations are being built all over Peru,

God is so good.

You also know of the ups and downs we’ve had

with directors at the orphanage. One of the downs

was last year when we had our first kids club. We

told the director everything we would be doing,

music, dance, craft and Bible lesson and he said OK.

After the kids club he decided to cancel it although

the children really enjoyed it. Now we have a new

director and she let us start up the kids club again!!

We started back on the 30th of August and will

As I said on the first page we started off the month with a family vacation, which was our first in over three years. We’ve always wanted to visit Mach Picchu, but the trip was a little too expensive. In order to go we were told we would have to travel to Lima which is 8 hours, then from Lima by bus another 28 hours or by plane which would be quite expensive since we were 6 people. We asked if there was a road that went across the mountains and were told there was, but that we wouldn't want to travel it because of the road conditions and that we would have to pas through part of the red zone. The red zone is an area that produces the most cocaine in the world. The more we looked into it the better it looked financially. We also knew that we would see areas of Peru we would never see any other way. We talked it over with a Peruvian family and they said that they had made that trip several years ago and it would not be a problem. We then decided we would trust the Lord and have one last family vacation before the boys returned to the states.

The 23 Psalms has become more real to us while living in Peru. I love to hear “I will fear no evil; For you are with me”. We new it would be OK. So we borrowed a 4x4 vehicle and headed south across the Andes Mountains. The sights that we saw were breath taking. The power and glory of the Lord are beyond amazing. We traveled through dry desert, went through a snow storm in which we could hardly see and passed through several military and police check points. I would say a little prayer each time we came to a check point and each time we passed quickly and easily. The road at times was a little questionable to say the least, more than once we would have to back up because there was no room for an oncoming truck to pass without caving in the side of the road on the cliff. One thing that excited me along the way was the thought that we had to return the same direction:) So 20 hours later we arrived in Cusco Peru. We were able to meet up with a missionary family that we met 2 years ago in language school. Katherine was able to spend time with their daughter whom she became friends with during that time. Daniel also officially proposed to Audrey in Cusco. We've trusted in the Lord and he has taken care of us. The boys are now on another journey in life and we continue to trust that the Lord will guide every decision that they make.

Proverbs 3:5-6 say “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all

your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”. The call on us as Christians is to have the sort

of trust that makes us prepared to put our entire lives into God’s hands. It says trust in the lord with all your

heart, not with part. Simply believing in God is not good enough. We are to trust, this is essential to having

faith. When we trust in God, we show Him our faith is real.
