Copyright © 2009 Peel, Inc. Mountain Lodge Homeowner's Association - September 2009 MOUNTAIN LODGE The Mountain Lodge Messenger is a monthly newsletter mailed to all Mountain Lodge residents. Each newsletter will be filled with valuable information about the community, local area activities, school information and more. If you are involved with a school group, play group, scouts, sports activity, social group, etc. and would like to submit an article for the newsletter you can do so online at www.PEELinc.com or you can email it [email protected]. Personal news for the Stork Report, Teenage Job Seekers, special celebrations, birthday announcements and military service are also welcome. Our goal is to keep you informed! Official Newsletter of the Mountain Lodge Homeowners Association Welcome to The Mountain Lodge Messenger Letter from the President Welcome to our new newsletter format! Peel, Inc. will be managing our newsletters going forward at no cost to the HOA. Katy Clark will continue to be our communications chair and help with the content of the newsletters. Thanks to all who took the time to attend our HOA Town Hall meeting last month – congratulations to our winners of the $50 gift cards! I hope you found it informative and hope that the board was able to answer any questions you may have had about what is going on in and around Mountain Lodge. The minutes from the meeting are posted on our resident portal at www.realmanage.com. If you’ve lost your sign in to the RealManage portal please contact them at 1-866-4RealService. Pape Dawson Engineering joined us at the meeting to deliver the results of their traffic study. Through the results of the first study we’ve identified several areas that will benefit from speed humps. Additional studies will be performed on other areas of the neighborhood for additional humps. The board is looking at our financing options for these speed humps and we’ll be sharing our decision with you at our nextTown Hall meeting in November. Another change coming for Mountain Lodge will be a complete upgrade of the technology that runs our gates. This will include upgraded call boxes and an end to our current code system. We’ll be moving to a remote control only entry with all visitors having to call from the call box. Details will follow in the upcoming months but we believe this will eliminate many of our unwanted “guests” who have stumbled on a Mountain Lodge code. As far as improving our safety, next year the board will be discussing installing cameras at both the gates and the pool areas. We are beginning a formal neighborhood COPS program. If you are interested in participating please contact our Safety Chair, Josh Morris, at [email protected]. Joe Cochran, our long term Maintenance Chair who has been an invaluable asset to this community, has decided to take some well deserved rest and enjoy his retirement. So, we are looking for a new Maintenance Chair. This person would be the liaison between the community and RealManage regarding anything needing to be repaired around the property. If you are interested please contact me at [email protected]. I want to take a moment to thank you all for helping to keep the pools an enjoyable place to spend some time during this long, hot summer. We’ve had a few incidents but (Continued on Page 3) September 2009 Volume 1, Issue 1

FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DROWNING

For more information, check out our website at

www.colinshope.org

Drowning is the leadingcause of unintentional

injury-related deathin children ages 1-4

Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury-related death ages 1-14.

DROWNING WILL AFFECT YOUOR SOMEONE YOU KNOW

Most children are out of sight or missing for less than 5 minutes and usually in the presence of 1 or both parents.

NO ONE is “drown proof” – no matter their level of swimming ability.

Falls, entrapments, and injuries lead to drowning regardless of swimming level.

A majority of people overestimate their own and their child’s ability to swim, especially in a panic event.

5min

Drowning occurs in as little as 2 minutes.

Most children die who are submerged for as little as 6-10 minutes.

Irreversible brain damage occurs in as little as 4 minutes.

2min 4min 6min

Children who drown do not scream, splash, or struggle. They silently slip beneath the water, even with adults & lifeguards present.

DROWNING IS QUICK AND SILENT

DROWNING CAN STILL OCCUREVEN IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SWIM
