From The desk of Fr. Jim
I’d like to thank the Pastoral Councils for all they
did to make the Picnic of the Parishes so wonder-
ful. Thanks too to all who volunteered to do the
many things that helped the day to flow so
smoothly. Thanks too to the men of the Lyceum
for their help with the heavy lifting and overseeing
beverages. And of course to all who brought their
many family recipes that made the food such a
gourmet delight. It was a major cheat day for
me...I didn’t stroke out and die, but if I had, it
would have been worth it. Good Food, Good
Conversation, Good company... the formula for a
great day.
Over my time here there has been a lot of
comment about the school courtyard at Most Holy
Name. I am happy to announce that a Boy Scout
has taken on the project of refurbishing the court-
yard for his Eagle Project. Some prep work will
take place this Fall, but the majority of the work
will be completed in the Spring. We also have an
Eagle candidate who wants to do something at
St. Al’s. We’re still talking what that might be.
We’re still looking for volunteers at both
parishes for Greeters for the coming changes.
Please contact Suzy Johns at St. Al’s and the
Eberz’s at MHN.
God hold you close
Pax,
Fr. Jim
At Home with the Lord
Remember Lord and welcome into your Kingdom
those who have died and gone before us marked
in the sign of faith, especially
Lois Gray
(Sister of Tom Bray)
Please pray for the
consolation of her loved ones.
Sitters needed at St. Anthony’s Chapel
Currently, the chapel is in need of sitters
(attendants). If you are able to volunteer one hour
a week (or month) to be present to Our Lord and
his saints, please call 412-999-4401.
Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration
of the Relic of St. Matthew, Apostle
at St. Anthony's Chapel
On Sunday, September 2nd at 3:00 pm, we will
begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before
Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament
will be exposed in the monstrance at the begin-
ning of evening prayer and the service will con-
clude with Benediction, Christ imparting His
blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Fol-
lowing the service, the faithful who wish to do so
will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one
of the saints. For September, it will be the relic
of St. Matthew.
Fraudulent Email Scam
A new email scam has surfaced last week asking
for your help by purchasing an ebay gift card for
someone and they are using Fr. Jim’s name. The
email is sent from a fictitious email account
through gmail. Please ignore any requests com-
ing from this account.
A PRAYER VIGIL OF
REPARATION AND PETITION
Sunday, September 9, 2018
1:00 pm
at St. Anthony’s Chapel
Troy Hill - Pittsburgh
All Catholics are invited to an afternoon of prayer
before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to ask for
His mercy upon His Church in this moment of
profound crisis. We come to make reparation for
own sins and those of our bishops and priests.
We gather in prayer that from Christ’s mercy will
come the healing and restoration of holiness for
which we all hope.
1 PM - Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
Holy Hour of Reparation follows
Catholic Community Food Bank

distribution date.
Women and Men Sharing Faith and Hope
Our next meeting is Monday, September 10th at
7:00 p.m. at ST. ALOYSIUS. Please read the
Preface and Introduction of “Tattoos on the Heart”
by Gregory Boyle.
Ask the Master of the Harvest to
Send Out Laborers for His Harvest –
As a nation, we pause this weekend to
celebrate Labor Day and as Christians
we are invited to give thanks and praise to God
for the gift of human labor that enriches us. In our
daily lives, our work is that which we do to make
a living, to provide for our families and to share
the gifts that God has given us. Our labor
involves our hands and minds and hearts and
truly becomes a reflection of the work of God in
creating and sustaining the world. Yet, our labor
does not end when the work day is over. The
Lord also invites us, as people of faith, to labor in
his vineyard. Our life of faith cannot be a passive
endeavor. To sit back and simply let God do good
for us does nothing when it comes to sharing faith
and truth and making new disciples. Instead, our
faith, like our work, is an active sharing of the gifts
of will, intellect, strength and love that we have
been given. On Mission for The Church Alive!
invites us to labor in on behalf of the Church so
that the seeds of faith can be planted in the
hearts of others through word and deed. And as
we invite others to follow God and enter into
caring relationships with them, God can reap a
bountiful harvest of the fruits of his love. Visit
onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to
stay informed.
Mass Requests
Please note that we have no openings for Mass
Intentions at this time, however, we are taking
requests for Masses for Fr. Garvey to say. If you
would like to have a Mass said in September,
forward the intention and $10 to the parish office.

A Family Perspective By Bud Ozar - In today’s
gospel Jesus warns “what comes from within can
defile” a person. Families need to worry about
“outside influences” but also about “inside influ-
ences.” The values our children carry for a life time
are learned at home. Habits of the Hearth are the
most powerful influences on a child. That’s the good
news! That can also be the bad news!
St. Vincent de Paul Society - The gospel today
hits home closer than we may think. What traditions
do we blindly cling to? Perhaps it is enough for us
just to go to Mass on Sunday? Do we keep the let-
ter of the law and miss entirely the spirit of the law.
Interior righteousness means a heart turned to God.
Purity of heart is expressed in righteous living: self-
giving for the sake of others. As you give your gift
to the poor through the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul, in your heart you also will find the good
news of God’s love.
