This Week... Special Points of Interest This Sunday in Worship...
This Sunday, September 20, is the 16th
Sunday after Pentecost – and our Rally Day
Cookout “do-over.” May the sun be shining!
Our worship will begin at 10:30 am, and our
text will be Matthew 20: 1-16, which will be
read by Susan Selvek. John Wolfolk is again
our guest organist, and Robin Bower will be
back next week. You can find worship online
at:https://www.youtube.com/TheHenriettaUCC
Please note that Zoom Sunday School has been postponed
to September 27, to give our families a chance to attend the
cookout after worship this Sunday. Check next week's Happenings
for the Zoom links.
Don’t forget to have your communion ready! We will again
celebrate the Lord’s Supper together on Sunday, so be sure and
gather your elements, be they grape juice and bread, coffee and
doughnut, or whatever you have in your home. The table Jesus set
is so broad and vast that it extends from the Sanctuary to your
home and beyond.
87 down, 13 to go ……..can you help us reach our goal? We
want to again thank all of you for faithfully participating in the offer-
ing. We are so grateful for folks sending their pledges and Dollar A
Day gifts in, as well as to those submitting them online. To make
your gift online, just go to henriettaucc.org and click on the “Online
Donation” button on the right-hand side. Dollar A Day has “sold”
roughly 87 of the 100 “shares” ($366) needed to reach the goal. If
you have yet to “purchase a share” and are able to do so, please
consider this gift in supporting God’s work from this congregation.
If you have prayer requests or announcements that need to be
made, please email them to the church by 6pm Saturday,
9/19/2020.

Sunday Fellowship Time Link
After worship Sunday, be sure to join in on the ZOOM Fellowship time immediately following.
Zoom Fellowship Hour will happen right after worship. Andrea has put the information to get to
Fellowship Hour elsewhere in this week’s issue of Happenings, and an email with a link will come to
you on Sunday morning as well. Special note --- I have put “schedule sends” into the office email
account so reminders of our Fellowship Hour, as well as Chat gatherings on Zoom, should still come
to you at appropriate times. If they do not (gmail has let us down before), you can always consult the
newsletter and Happenings.
Pastor Martha will be leading worship and handling all pastoral responsibilities while I am away
the next two weeks. I will be leaving for vacation after worship today, and will return to Henrietta late
in the day on October 5. When I get back, I look forward to leading our worship on October 11 – the
Pet Blessing! Another article about that will be in the October newsletter.
We again thank Joan Barnes for working so hard to organize our safe,
masked, and distanced Rally Day Cookout – particular as the weather has
changed our schedule. Thank you also to those of you who RSVP’d. The
burgers are here just waiting to be grilled by our standout chef Randy Kenyon.
If you RSVP’d, you can plan to arrive at the church about 12 noon.
Thanks and blessings,
Pastor Jason

Nerves on Edge in Your Home? With all the painful news these days, plus social distancing
and at-home schooling, many of us are experiencing high levels
of stress.
Delaney Rustin, maker of the film "Screenagers," shares
some healthy ways to manage the anxiety in her Tech-Talk-
Tuesdays newsletter. One great ideas is to set up a "Hidden
Brownie Points" board in your home, where each family member
can name the unnoticed things they do to promote a peaceful household. Think: "I took out the
trash today!" or "Made my bed without being asked!"
Check out the article here for this and other ways to anchor yourself and your family during these
uncertain times. Whether your house is full of kids, or you're just feeling anxious on your own,
giving yourself and others credit for each positive step can be a big stress buster!

ing coffee, it will be available on

Virtual Sunday School Resumes September 27
Note the date change to accommodate the rescheduled Rally Day Picnic.
Zoom links will be in next week’s Happenings.
Here’s the plan:
10:00 am Pre-School & Kindergarten with Jody Peterson & Mary Anne Meyer

Loughner
1:00 pm Youth (grades 6-12) with Su Grimes and Kim Griffin
We are still working out details for the elementary group, and may meet on alternate weeks; de-
tails will be sent to parents via email. As the school year gets underway and families adjust to their
new routines, we can adapt these plans as needed—just let us know how things are going for you!
October Newsletter Deadline is end of the day
on September 23. Andrea will be typesetting at
home and working in the office on September 29
to publish.
Food Cupboard Needs Items
Churches have been given permission to bring
donations directly to the food cupboard in the town park
Monday mornings from nine to noon. Suggested items
include Mac n Cheese, various soups, Ramen noodles,
canned meats, tuna helper, mashed potatoes mix,
scalloped potatoes, small containers of dish soap, toilet
paper, small containers of coffee and herbal tea.
Thank you for helping.
Roast Pork Take-Out Dinner
Only one more volunteer position open! I still need one more person to help
with cleanup; probably won't be a lengthy job. Please let me know if you are
willing to help in this way.
Also, some people have been asking about advance ticket sales. We have
no way of selling advance tickets nor taking reservations -- this is a first-come,
first-served event. We will be able to pack 200 dinners. Judy Hawk, 486-4668

Did You Know . . . .
It is amazing to look at the beautiful sunset this week and see the sun a bright
orange as it sets. Then I realized that the vibrant color is from the smoke of the fires
happening out west! We are all connected, and the UCC churches out west are
dealing with the tragedies of these many fires. Check out the article below and see
what is happening with our church family in the western states. You can read the
whole article at : www.ucc.org
West Coast fire evacuation take toll on UCC church-es, camps and their communities As wind-whipped wildfires continue to take lives and destroy forests, homes and
businesses on the West Coast of the United States, United Church of Christ
congregations are in stages ranging from evacuation to recovery to post-traumatic
stress syndrome.
In the two hardest-hit UCC Conferences – Central Pacific and Northern California-
Nevada – several congregations and church camps await word on the fate of their
buildings. Others, evacuated days or weeks ago, are ministering to families and
communities that escaped damage or are returning to inspect it. Daytime skies
range from smoky gray to eerie orange to black as night.
“It feels like the whole coast’s on fire,” said Pastor Kimberly Williams of Grace
Community UCC in North Fork, Calif., which got evacuation orders on Sept. 6, her
first official Sunday as pastor. In affected areas, “it’s terrifying,” she said.
“Everybody is looking out their windows with this look of horror, but then realizing,
OK, this is the reality, we’ve got to keep
on going.”
Amid it all, pastors say they value how
colleagues are checking in on each
other, offering mutual support, advice
and prayer – a response borne of years
of relationship-building within each
Conference and with the wider church.

Hats off to Skye and Jack
Many thanks to Jack & Skye Barnes, who represented
HUCC at the Plastic Lakes Project Event on August 29! Along
with folks from First Congregational Church of Spencerport,
UCC, and Mountain Rise UCC, participants picked up 85
pounds of garbage from the beach in Ontario Beach State
Park. Plastic bags, plastic bottles, shoes, clothes, cigar
tips....there was a lot of junk there! They also catalogued each
item, so that the data can be used by scientists to figure out
the sources of the plastic that ends up in the lake and work to
reduce the amount. This is crucial not only for the aquatic life
in the Great Lakes, but also for folks who rely on the lakes for
their drinking water. Kudos to everyone who helped!
