This book tells of the life-long friendship between a busy sales executive and a disadvantaged young boy, and how both of their lives were changed by what began as one small gesture of kindness. Come and join us for this heartwarming tale.

LET'S STOCK UP ST. JOE'S FOOD PANTRY!!

The Social Concerns Ministry team will hand out bags next Sunday, September 18th. Please fill the bag and return it on Sunday, September 25th. St. Joe's provides plastic bags with suggested food items printed on it. Cash gifts will be used for fresh milk and other items not donated. If you cannot make it to church when the bags are passed out, feel free to use any bag you have at home. You can leave the bag in the entryways to the church. Please call or email Nette Kimball at [email protected] or 851.4032 with any questions. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is happy to cooperate with many churches in the Fox Cities on a joint food pantry. St. Joseph Food Pantry was started in 1982 and weekly distributes 30 tons of fresh food and non-perishable items to hundreds of men, women, children, elderly, working poor and unemployed. Through the years they have created an effective system for churches and local agencies to cooperate and care for our needy in the Fox Cities. We are blessed to be part of this vital network. POP collects food each quarter. We ask you to pray for those people in need.

Remember, Rejoice, Renew Stewardship Appeal

This fall’s appeal for the 2017 general fund will be a time of remembering our past accomplishments, rejoicing in our current ministries, and renewing our mission as a family of Christians. We will be doing things a bit differently than past appeals, so please note the following… Our Sept. 25 Appeal Kickoff:

A representative from Peace Lutheran Oshkosh will be here to give a short talk during announcements. Peace Lutheran was our sponsor at the founding of Prince of Peace. We will be receiving a door offering for Peace Lutheran on Sept. 25.

Information Packets handed out Sept. 25. These will contain:

A letter highlighting accomplishments, current projects, & needs for next year.

Member’s recent past general fund pledge and giving summary sheet,

A “sample” commitment card.

To help defray mailing costs, we will be randomly awarding five $20 gas cards to members who pick up their packets.

October Cottage Talks: These will be held on evenings and weekends Oct. 12-28. Evening events will be held in homes,

generously offered by PoP members. Several gatherings will also be held at Prince of Peace.

Members will receive an invitation by mail. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Narthex. It is highly encouraged that at least one family member attend one talk.

These 60-90 minute gatherings will consist of fellowship and refreshments, a short video on Prince of Peace recollections, conversations regarding our own memories, presentations on the blessings we have received, a look at our present ministry and future goals, followed by a short worship and prayer.

An envelope to attendees will be handed out at these cottage talks. It will contain: • A commitment card for 2017 general fund, • A simply giving Form,

DOOR OFFERING TODAY will benefit “LEAVEN” LEAVEN (Limited Emergency Assistance Valley Ecumenical Network) is a volunteer, community based non-profit organization. LEAVEN’s mission: LEAVEN works through volunteers to assist people in crisis who have basic needs that cannot be met elsewhere. What does LEAVEN do? LEAVEN provides limited financial assistance to people who are struggling to meet their basic needs and have nowhere else to turn for help. In addition, we connect people to other resources in the community through referrals, advocacy and service coordination. We help with: rent, mortgage payments and security deposits, utilities – including water, gas, electricity, propane and fuel oil, car repairs, health insurance premiums, gas vouchers, bus passes, diapers and toiletries, referrals for clothing and furniture and other basic necessities. LEAVEN’s help is typically immediate, short-term and emergency based. More at: www.leavenfoxcities.org.

TODAY IS E2F PAN SUNDAY! E2F stands for Empty to Full. It‘s a program set up to fulfill the meal needs for residents at Homeless Connections (formerly known as Emergency Shelter-Appleton). Here’s how it works: Quarterly, aluminum pans with covers, recipes and a shopping list will be handed out at church. You can then take it home and make the recipe during the week (at the time of your choosing) and then freeze it. The pans are returned to church the following Sunday and frozen in our new freezer at church. When it is our turn to serve at Homeless Connections we can bring the pans along and warm them up that evening. TODAY we’ll hand out the pans so that you can bring them back to church on September 18th.

We are also in desperate need of volunteers for serving at Homeless Connections or donating a dessert on the nights we serve. If you are interested, please sign up at sign up genius at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4eaeac2da4f58-homeless; or email Trisha Kostelny at [email protected] or phone at 734-4927.Your help is greatly appreciated!
