As We Gather: The product that did not pass inspection. The player who did not make the team. The job candidate that did not get hired. Perhaps you can relate to the rejection that was experienced in each one of these scenarios. When we experience rejection or disappointment, know that One suffered even greater rejection on your behalf. Take heart in knowing that Jesus’ rejection and crucifixion means your inclusion in His kingdom—that kingdom built on the foundation that is Jesus Christ.

THE ORDER OF WORSHIP FOR SEPT. 27th

, 2020 Welcome:

Special Announcements:

(See Announcements Section)

Invocation: Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy

Spirit. People: Amen.

Confession and Absolution: Pastor: With confidence in Christ, let us confess our sins to God our

Father. People: Merciful God, You never fail to come to us by Your Word

and Spirit. Your Word alone gives life, but we are distracted from receiving and obeying Your Word. In our thinking, speaking, and doing, we have failed to do what Your Word commands. Thank You for being a wonderful Father and a merciful Savior! Bring us again to the foot of Jesus’ cross that we may receive the forgiveness we so desperately need. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God, in His great mercy, has given His Son to die for you and, for Jesus’ sake, He forgives you all your sins. Upon this your confession, I, as a called and ordained servant of Christ, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People: Amen.

Sermon Song: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation! Let all who hear Now to His temple draw near,

Joining in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things is wondrously reigning And, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining.

Have you not seen All that is needful has been Sent by His gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you; Surely His goodness and mercy shall daily attend you.

Ponder anew What the Almighty can do As with His love He befriends you.

+ SERVICE OF THE WORD + Reading: Zephaniah 3:10-20 10

From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring

me offerings. 11

On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from you your arrogant boasters. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill.

12 But I will leave within

you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the LORD. 13

They will do no wrong; they will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.”

14 Sing,

Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem!

15 The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your

enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm.

16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your

hands hang limp. 17

The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

18 “I will remove from you all who mourn over the loss of your

appointed festivals, which is a burden and reproach for you. 19

At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame.

20 At that

time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes

before your

very eyes,” says the LORD. After the Reading:

Pastor: This is the word of the Lord. People: Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon: “Minor League Prophets – Zephaniah, Prophet of Praise” Prayers: Lord’s Prayer: Pastor: Lord, remember us in your kingdom as we boldly pray: People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy

kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Song of Reflection: “Mighty to Save”

Everyone needs compassion A love that’s never failing

Let mercy fall on me Everyone needs forgiveness

A kindness of a savior The hope of nations

Chorus: Savior, He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save He is mighty to save

Forever, author of salvation He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as you find me All my fears and failures

Fill my life again I give my life to follow Everything I believe in

Now I surrender Yes, I surrender (Chorus)

Bridge: Shine your light and let the whole world see

We’re singing for the glory of the risen king … Jesus, shine your light and let the whole world see

We’re singing for the glory of the risen king … (Chorus-2X)

Announcements

PRESCHOOL The Hop-A-Thon is coming up on October 8th and 9th. The children will wear their Tie-dye shirts and do something active to help support the school. If you feel like donating to this fundraiser, let Sara know. Ask family, friends, and neighbors to pledge or send a flat rate donation during the fundraiser. The fundraiser helps determine next year’s tuition costs. The Preschool will have an “at school” field trip and bring Larry’s Produce pumpkins to the school for a fun pumpkin patch at the Preschool on 10/22 & 10/23. This year’s social distancing custom Halloween parade will be on October 29th and 30th, in a closed parking lot, 10 minutes before school is dismissed. Thanks for all of your Amazon donations to the school. Anyone that would like to donate can look up the wish list at the link below:

OCTOBERFEST Sadly, this year’s Oktoberfest has been cancelled due to the Pandemic. We look forward to having all of that fantastic homemade German food, drink, and fellowship in 2021.

TEACHER DEEP CLEANING DAYS Friday, October 16, is “Teacher Deep Cleaning Day”. The Preschool will be closed so that the teachers can do some deep cleaning of toys, play areas, and the spaces where the children learn each day. January 15th and April 30th are also “Teacher Deep Cleaning Days”.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT/FALL FESTIVAL Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the annual Trunk-or-Treat/Fall Festival will be cancelled. Look forward to seeing all of our little Preschoolers in costume in October of 2021 for festive Fall fun and games.

REFORMATION SUNDAY Lutherans celebrate the tradition that grounds their faith on Reformation Sunday. It is always the last Sunday in October, marking the occasion in 1517 when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This year Reformation Sunday is October 25th. Pastor Dave will plan a special Worship Service for that Sunday. Wear red to celebrate the tradition of Reformation Sunday.

LUTHERAN HOUR FOR SUNDAY OCTOBER 4, 2020 Next week’s speaker for The Lutheran Hour is Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler. His message is entitled “Victory in Defeat” and is based on Daniel 1. The thing about God is, He’s winning-even when it doesn’t look like He’s winning. Maybe, especially when it doesn’t look like He’s winning. Dr. Michael Zeigler begins a series of messages based on the book of Daniel that tells how God uses history as a vehicle to bring about His eternal kingdom. Listen to this week’s Lutheran Hour on KCBC, AM 770, at 5:30pm on Saturday, 7:30am on Sundays, or anytime on the web at www.lhm.org. Also available on the web are Spanish & Armed Forces versions as well as MP3, Podcast and Sirius XM Satellite radio. An updated mobile app is now available for your convenience.

SOLANO COUNTY REOPENING

This week, the state of California announced that certain sectors in Solano County will be allowed to reopen with modified operations. Restaurants, movie theaters, churches, museums and others will be allowed to open with limited capacity. There is also a requirement to submit written operating plans to the county that the public will be able to review. This is the result of Solano County moving from the purple tier (widespread transmission of corona virus) to red (substantial transmission).

While we view this as positive news, it is important to note that transitioning to any in-person gathering takes a good deal of planning and preparation. Our church leaders have been working together to monitor the options of safe gatherings for everyone. Transitioning to in-person gatherings of any kind is not like flipping an on-off switch; rather, it is more like bringing a sizable power-grid back on-line, which has to be done thoughtfully and carefully to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We are currently working on the next steps and will discuss them in detail within the next few months. For now, we will continue our virtual You Tube Worship Services until Church Council approves any changes. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process with the health and safety of everyone involved as our primary goal.

We urge all of you to remain vigilant. Just because we are seeing a partial reopening, does NOT mean the virus is gone. The virus is still very much with us. We urge all of you to continue to remain aware of the risk. Please wear your mask, stay 6ft apart, wash your hands regularly, stay home if you have any covid-19 symptoms and get tested for the corona virus. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is that we do not let our guard down. If we continue to follow the guidelines, we will help to ensure we are all safe.

For more information about reopening the county, testing, and the corona virus in general, please visit:

Pulling Off an Online Lock-In Looking for a COVID-friendly substitution for your youth all-nighter? Try pulling off an online lock-in!

This Online Lock-In is more of a check-in than an all-nighter and, frankly, it’s one of the best ways to

connect with middle school and high school students during the pandemic.

The event is pretty simple. Instead of having an “all-nighter,” have an hourly check-ins all day. Run this event from 2 PM to 10 PM. Each hour at the top of the hour for 10-15 minutes host elements of

fun, surprise, worship, etc.

Details of an Online Lock-In

Created a Zoom link that is the same all day long. Post that link in a private social media accounts, in

an email, text message etc. Here’s a list of some of the things you can use:

Students reading their favorite Bible verses. Pictionary—choose someone to draw, everyone else guesses.

Music—invite someone to lead songs from their home. Snack Time—everyone brings a snack, and shares why they like it.

Funny Videos—share your screen so everybody can watch videos that you’re playing. Student Talent—ask kids to read a poem they wrote, do a magic trick, tell a joke, or play an

instrument.

Encourage students to show up all day and give away a “secret letter” every hour. If they attend every session, they will have all the letters, and if they can unscramble the word, give them a

prize. For example, the word C.O.O.K.I.E.S.—plan to deliver cookies to every teenager who privately messaged the answer correctly.

Weekly Programming—at the 6 o’clock hour, point teenagers to a weekly YouTube program

instead of the Online Lock-In Zoom link. Trivia—Google “fun trivia” or buy some age-appropriate trivia cards from Amazon.

PowerPoint Games (share your screen). Scavenger Hunt—have a list of things and ask students to find and bring them back to show

everyone on the screen. First to return wins a point.

Bedtime Stories—close the night by sharing a few funny stories during the very last hour.

Make It Your Own

The opportunities for online lock-in activities are endless. You can do anything you want at the top of the hour. Just get together to have fun. After completing each of the sessions, announce what the next session will be so students would come prepared. For example, “See you at 4 o’clock—come ready with

your favorite Bible verse.”

Pro-tip—the mute button is your friend. Always unmute for everyone during the last 30 seconds crazy, chaotic, silly moment of every hour.
