Hi Garden Lovers. If you enjoy garden tours then you will be sure to love this one. It is to a private Secret Garden in Raleigh that is the result of much planning and work on behalf of the homeowners. The idea was hatched when the woman was read The Secret Garden as a child but did not come to fruition for many years. Not only did she grow up loving plants and the outdoors, but her husband also was a garden lover. The idea moved forward after several trips to England where walled gardens were sought out, and then the bricks from an abandoned warehouse became available. The planning and building began in earnest when the bricks were dumped by the truckload in their front yard. After searching for someone to help and literally "coming up empty handed" the man of the house began the tedious job of knocking the old mortar off the bricks and transporting them by wheelbarrow to the back yard. This took an entire year. Two decades later they are now the proud owners of an incredible garden. However, as you might have guessed the work didn't stop when the wall was up and plantings were in place. Oh no!! That was just the beginning - as stepping stones leading to the garden were put in place, and beautiful specimens were chosen to surround the garden. We hope you can join us on this outing. We cannot give out the address or we would reveal the "secret." You will be given the location when you respond that you are joining us. When: Tuesday, September 22nd, 10:30 AM at the garden What: Garden Walk at private garden in Raleigh's historic district RSVP: To Shirley at [email protected] by September 16th

Once again, we will have the very knowledgeable assistance of Cory Lyerly from Taylor’s Wine Shop to introduce us to wines from around the world. To start the season, our September gathering will center around “Tailgating” as the very spirited football season begins. Our 2015 gatherings will continue with seasonal “ritual” celebrations and end 2015 with a special theme for the holiday. When we return in 2016, each month we will explore wines from a different country from around the world. When: Saturday, September 26th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Where: Hosted by Nancy and Steve Loncto RSVP: To Louise at the contact info above if you want to be added to the email list. An invitational email to interested Club members will be sent in the beginning of September. Newcomers Club of Raleigh is grateful for the continued professional pro bono services of Richard M. Reedman as Treasurer.
