The definitions of these parts of speech maybe not be exactly the same as that in English. However they are similar. Besides, all the parts of speech mentioned in this book are according to the classification of Cantonese and may not be the same as that in English

Besides, in English, unless it’s plural or uncountable things, people have to add an article before the noun, however, there’s no this requirement in Cantonese. It’s optional to use “yât…” or not before the noun and it’s mainly depends on if the speaker wants to make it clear or emphasise it.

I. Definition Measure words are words that express a unit of things or action. They comes before nouns for measuring purposes It is similar to the function of “piece” in “a piece of paper. Different group of objects take different measure words. Usually same shape of object share the same MWs. Measure Word (MW) is also called Noun Classifier.
