COMPOUND SENTENCE & CONJUNCTIVE ADVERBS
• Another way to create a compound sentence is by using conjunctive adverbs
She hears them coming; consequently, I duck into the gloom to watch and wait (Gardner 126).

THE RULE
• Use a semicolon and a comma when a conjunctive adverb separates two main clauses.
She hears them coming; consequently, I duck into the gloom to watch and wait.
• As it follows, you will use a comma after one of these adverbs if you start a sentence with one, too.
