Dear Jill,

The Dept. of English does have an undergraduate course in U.S. Latino/a Literature and a course in Contemporary Drama (see course descriptions below). While there may be some overlap with the course (ENGL 2501) you are proposing and our courses, I don’t see this as an issue. In fact, I would encourage Professor Garza to notify us when he will be teaching the course in Latino Theatre and Drama, and perhaps we could explore cross-listing the course for English majors. Thanks so much for contacting us.

Best,

Michelle

Hector, Jill, and John,

This is to acknowledge receipt of the revised course materials. The notification of affected units is supposed, as per the UCC manual, also to include any responses to the notification. Since I don’t see any in this submission, but have been copied on two responses that were made, I have copied all those whom Jill contacted two days ago to ensure a) they will know they all have a chance to respond should they care to and b) that you will make sure submit their responses for the record. We have several days to play with before the committee will vote on the minutes.

A collegial reminder: The purpose of the notification is to ensure cooperation between units. It has worked well in the past, leading to mutually advantageous curricular developments, as the immediate past chair and current vice-chair of the committee, Paul Schwager, will be happy to attest from personal experience. Since an offer has been extended to have such an amicable discussion about overlapping areas of interest with English and Foreign Languages – which is, again, exactly the intent of the notification procedure – it would be of interest to UCC, as well as obviously to the offering parties, to know if you plan to take up the offer.

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan Reid
