Essentially, the sensor labels measure the growth of bacteria, which generates gases. Thus, the greater thelevel of bacteria growing on meat and poultry, the higher the amount of gases generated. The SensorQ labelreacts to these gas levels with color changes, thus providing a clear indication of product freshness or spoilage.

The actual launch of the new SensorQ smart label was made possible by the financial support of severalinvestors, including Swiss-based Inventages Venture Capital Investments Inc. and Dutch-based DSM VenturingB.V Also participating are Navigator Technology Ventures, private investors and FQSI's management. 'The SensorQ technology brings freshness monitoring for consumers to a new level and promises to maketoday's industry standard, the printed sell-by date label, an item of the past. FQSI has impressed me with thisinnovative product and I look forward to our being able to play an active role in supporting the company," saysDr. Gunnar Weikert, chairman, CEO and founder of Inventages Venture Capital Investments.
