Thirty Days Hath September...", or "Thirty Days Has Septem-
ber...", is a traditional verse mnemonic used to remember the num-
ber of days in the months of the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It
arose as an oral tradition and exists in many variants. It is currently
earliest attested in English, but was and remains common through-
out Europe as well. Source: wikipedia.org
Groucho Marx once said, ‘My favorite poem is the one that starts
“Thirty Days Hath September”, because it actually means some-
thing.’
In the 1890s, traveler Henry Attwell found that the residents of rural
Holland used their hands to recall which months of the year have 31
days.

Labor Day is on the first Monday of September every year. It was originally organized to celebrate various labor unions' strengths of and contributions to the United States' economy. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed in 1885 and 1886. From these, a movement developed to secure state legisla-tion. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During 1887, four more states – Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York – created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
The slate of nomination as of publication date for SCOBBV’S
election for 2021. ( we are exploring options how we can do an
election on November 9. When there is a health emergency
such as COVID, it supersedes any rule or regulation that would
required in person meetings if they pose a risk to a person’s
health especially when the Senior Center remains closed)

Growing Smiles Unknown Author
A smile is quite a funny thing, It wrinkles up your face, And when it's gone, you never find Its secret hiding place.
But far more wonderful it is To see what smiles can do; You smile at one, he smiles at you, And so one smile makes two.
He smiles at someone since you smiled, And then that one smiles back; And that one smiles, until in truth You fail in keeping track.
Now since a smile can do great good By cheering hearts of care, Let's smile and smile and not forget That smiles go everywhere!
“You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.” ― Charlie Chaplin
Exercising with Arthritis
For people with arthritis, exercise can reduce joint pain and stiffness. It can also help with losing weight, which reduces stress on the joints.
Flexibility exercises such as upper- and lower-body stretching and tai chi can help keep joints moving, relieve stiffness, and give you more freedom of movement for eve-ryday activities.
Strengthening exercises, such as overhead arm raises, will help you maintain or add to your muscle strength to support and protect your joints.
Endurance exercises make the heart and arteries healthier and may lessen swelling in some joints. Try activities that don’t require a lot of weight on your joints, such as swim-ming and biking.
If you have arthritis, you may need to avoid some types of
activity when joints are swollen or inflamed. If you have
pain in a specific joint area, for example, you may need to
focus on another area for a day or two.
