the roar WEDNESDAY, May 23, 2012 The Loveland High School Student Newspaper lovelandschools.org/theroar the roar By Sabrina Newstead Editor-in-Chief By Elizabeth Worsham Editor-in-Chief Page Editor: Sabrina Newstead Seniors, on June 2, we will be walk- ing down the aisle and collecting our di- plomas, something we have been working towards for 12 years. Graduation will be our day to celebrate all the hard work we have done in order to take the next step in our lives. It is the day we walk away from every- thing we know, and enter the realm of the unknown. While it may seem scary and full of uncertainties, it is a step each one of us must go through together. As we all embark upon our individual journeys, let’s not forget where we come from. During the past 12 years, we have each had our triumphs and troubles, but they shaped us into who we are today. Together, we cre- ated many memories that we will reflect upon in years to come. When I received my time capsule letter from my parents, it began with, “In twelve years from now, you will be opening this letter and preparing to graduate high school…” Where has all the time gone? I remem- ber 12 years ago putting that letter into the time cap- sule, and opening that letter seemed surreal. It’s sad leaving behind childhood and entering the adult world, but it’s also a fun and exciting time we should all embrace. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do, especial- ly when we know we might not see each other again. However, this chapter of our lives is over and it’s time to start a new one. Instead of racing to the swings on re- cess in first grade, cheering our hearts out at football games in high school, and danc- ing the night away at Senior Prom, we will be figuring out how to do laundry, thinking about what to eat for dinner, and studying the night away in college (among other things, of course). Seniors, on June 2, it’s our turn to gradu- ate and celebrate entering a crazy world – one that’s also full of opportunity. It’s our turn to determine our future. It’s our turn to show the world what we’re made of. So class of 2012, goodbye and good luck! Editors share wishes for the future Over 12 years in this school district, I’ve made a lot of friends, and I’ve made my share of, uh, not friends, but one thing is for sure: Each one of you has had a part in making me who I am today. Thank you for that. Yet I’m not here to talk about what we used to be. I want to talk about what we’re going to be. Graduation marks a chance for us to wipe the slate clean, and focus on the great times we had together, and the great things coming for us in the future. We’re about to leave a place that is comfortable to us and enter a foreign environment socially and academically, and for some of us, even geographically. We’re going to have to face the scary fact that there is more to the world than our little town. But you know what? Every single one of us is ready. We all have the potential to succeed, and there’s only one thing stand- ing in our way: ourselves. I may not be an expert, but I know that anything is possible. I’m only in high school, and I’ve already done more than I imagined I would in my entire life. I’ve worked for NASA, given a motivational speech to more 2,000 people from 40 dif- ferent countries, and shared a stage with one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People. I’m no better than any other person in this school. In fact, I’m certainly not the smartest or even the most capable (others have gone on mission trips to other coun- tries and achieved national awards for mu- sic and athletics, among other things). But when an opportunity arose for me, I never held back. Going into the future, I have one wish for all of you: Never tell yourself you can’t. After spending so many years with you, I know that you can. Everyone is going to have opportuni- ties in their lives, and if they don’t come to you, seek them out. Every minute that you sit and wait for great things to happen is a minute lost. We have a limited amount of time in this world, so don’t waste it. You can be what you want to be. You can be amazing. Some of us may never meet again, and in 10 years we may not even remember each other, but remember my wish for you. Be true to yourself, take every oppor- tunity and use it to the fullest, live your dreams and don’t hold back. Because we’re all Tigers, and Tigers never go down without a fight. Advice 3WEDNESDAY, May 23, 2012 Page Editor: Erin PogueAndrew Albert: Don’t take AP Chemistry, un-less you like homework.Jacob Alten: Don’t let anything get you down. Always get right back up and keep pushing for-ward no matter what it is. Stick to your game plan and good things will come to you. And for the dudes, girls are pure drama. Just chill with your boys!Kate Altieri: Any chance you get, take it and live it up.Ryan Altman: Do your homework and have fun. Don’t let drama get to you. Make sure you don’t have regrets either.Matt Amrein: Remember life is a joke. It’s okay if you don’t get it, because neither do I!Tia Ariapad: Don’t slack off your freshman and sophomore years because it lowers your GPA, and before you know it you’re a senior still trying to raise it for college.Katie Audia: Time flies, friends come and go, and things start getting a lot more serious. Just be you, surround yourself with people that make you happy, and keep your chin up. You only have high school once. Live it up, and get good grades!Rachel Baker: Figure out who your real friends are; don’t waste time on people who misuse you!Kalli Barcroft: Trust me when I say high school goes by quick, so take advantage of ev-ery event and opportunity there is.Shannon Barnell: Take all your hard classes before senior year so you can have fun.Eric Bauer: Learn how to learn in AP Physics, then how to work in AP Chemistry.Matt Beachy: If you ever get injured, hold parties in the elevator.Evan Beck: Don’t worry about being popular; get a good group of friends and make some wild memories.Jonathan Berchtold: Don’t really care about what other people think of you; be open-mind-ed, and don’t just rely on what people say about anything and go to see if what people said is true. Also, believe in the magic of friendship!Gabi Bertline: To the freshmen, study and try! Freshman year is the most important. Enjoy this moment right now, because soon it will be only a memory, just like the world you see around you.Bryce Clawson: Don’t slack off.Hannah Claybourn: Don’t mess around with school work and actually try so you have more choices for colleges and can go to the college you really want to go to.Daniel Congleton: Work hard, and don’t be afraid of having fun and being dedicated to something!Cameron Conte: Don’t worry about being dif-ferent; you’re just a leader with no followers yet.Logan Cornett: Kiss those babies.Megan Cullen: Have fun your senior year. Austin Hopkins: Stay on the right side of the hallway, not the center. If you don’t want peo-ple to hear your conversation, don’t talk loud enough for us to hear it. Stand out and be proud that you’re a unique individual.Jessica Horton: Plan for the future but live for the present, because time flies.Henry Howard: High school is a great time, so don’t take it all for granted. Time flies.Nicole Hudson: Don’t focus on having a mil-lion friends; instead, find a select group of really good friends.Jay Hubble: Don’t have a lot of Facebook friends because it takes forever to go through them all for grad party invites.Brandon Huber: Follow your dreams. Do not let money or what people say limit you.Stephanie Jacob: Get involved! And don’t worry about all the drama along the way. By May of your senior year, none of that will mat-ter, and you’re going to be so ready to move on.Kelsie Jamison: Be respectful of your teachers and classmates, because you never know what they are dealing with. Give everyone a chance,

Take Mentoring; you won’t regret it!Reagan Johnstone: Make the most of high school because it goes by super fast. Don’t stress over the little things, because you’re only here for four years and then life goes on.Ashley Jungclas: Enjoy your time in high school, because it will go by so fast. Hang with friends. Enjoy life to the fullest.Amy Kamperman: Don’t be afraid of AP class-es. They may be hard work, but they were defi-nitely worth it. They were my favorite classes.Andrew Karle: Don’t blink.Mitko Karshovski: Enjoy your years here, be-cause soon it will be over.Michelle Kauffman: Try and make the best out of your senior year; you only get one chance so make it count.Jillian Kemmet: Make a lot of memories, be-cause high school goes by really fast. Go to all the sporting events and dances.Charlotte Kenter: Get involved and have fun; before you know it, it will all be over.Sarah Kling: Don’t worry about what other people think of you, because the people that matter won’t care how crazy you are. Be nice to the attendance office ladies, Mrs. Brulport and Mrs. Bonnell; they do more for you than you could ever imagine.Danielle Meyer: Don’t be afraid to be who you are and do what makes you happy. And go to every sporting event you can!Alex Neal: Be a gram-mar nazi; make your English teachers happy.Kortney Neighbors:

Love you.Molly Query: Attend as many school events as you can and create memories!Anna Ralph: Work hard and take advantage of every opportunity you get, but most of all have fun.Megan Randall: Join Marching Band.David Rankin: Be happy to live in America.Molly Reich: Be yourself! Don’t worry about what others think about you.Danae Ries: Don’t goof off in the younger years of high school. Take them seriously, be-cause those classes actually do matter to col-leges. Get a vaccination or something against senioritis, because it can kill you. Take Psychol-ogy with Ms. Templeton, because you make so many friends and it’s just generally the best class ever. Also, Fantasy/Sci-Fi with Mr. Zin-necker is the other best class ever.Brianna Rubin: Focus on your studies, be-cause your GPA is an important part for getting into college.Courtney Rump: Get involved in school activ-ities, and don’t let the little things get you down.Grace Samyn: It’s not too late to be who you want to be.Nicole Santos: Get involved with as much as you can.Abby Schnure: Take all-year Late Arrival.Reed Schlesner: Work hard, lift weights, eat protein, pay attention in class, and you will suc-ceed. Enjoy it all.Mariah Schweiger: Don’t think you’re too cool for school. Go to the games and be spir-ited. Make friends with everyone. High school ends in the blink of an eye, so have as much fun as possible.Sandy Sechang: Grades aren’t the most impor-tant thing. It’s what you learn that really mat-ters. Learn to go out of your way for someone and cherish the time with your friends and fam-ily.Akaash Sheth: Procrastination FTW!Taryn Shrout: Do not, I repeat, do not take AP Chem.Kyle Sieg: Senior year is all about making memories.Rupert Sizemore: Get main courses done freshman and sophomore year so junior and se-nior year are easy.Megan Slabaugh: Surround yourself with people that make you happy, and make as many good memories as you can, because soon enough they’re all you’ll have! It is not for the unprepared.Tyler Smart: Walk on the right, don’t stop, and don’t be dumb. Your day will be fine.Ali Smith: Respect yourself.Chloe Smith: Enjoy every second of high school. The time flies by and before you know

it, you and your class will all be going your separate ways. So spend as much time with the ones closest to your heart, and don’t let the time slip through your hands – love who you love.Tara Spencer: Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and get involved in some-thing new; you may find you have a hidden pas-sion. Take all your hard classes first semester of senior year, because in second semester, se-nioritis really kicks in.Elle Stafford: Stay focused and get good grades.Maggie Stancliff: Love everyone and give your dad a hug!Marguerite Strong: Don’t crowd the halls. People will shove you. Liz Sullivan: Do a couple twirls in the hallway every day.Ryan Sullivan: Late Arrival and Early Dis-missal are the best.Matt Swaine: Take advantage of the time you have. High school goes by fast.Jarron Talbot: Don’t wait until junior year to get your GPA up. Take your freshman and sophomore years seriously; you’ll thank your-self when you are applying for college.Alex Taylor: The cliché of “be yourself” is al-ways true. Do what you want to do. Be your own leader; stray from the crowd – it’s okay if you do. Also, do early credit completion; every-one tells me they should have. It’s awesome.Joel Taylor: You know when elderly people say to work hard in high school? Turns out you should actually do that before senior year when it’s too late. Darn.Emily Tedford: I know everyone says this, but my advice is to avoid procrastination. It just makes your life way harder than it needs to be.Jerry Thomas: Don’t pass up on opportunities to meet new people or try new things.Alyssa Tipton: Go to every school function possible! Also, don’t wait until the last minute to do college apps. They stink, but senioritis just gets worse the longer you wait.Jon Treloar: Be a kicker.Nina Veite: Remember that you’re just in high school. Work hard but find time to relax every once in a while, or life will just pass you by.Lorna Vinsant: Enjoy every second of high school. Everyone says it goes by fast, and it re-ally does. Before you know it, it will be your graduation day too.Chandler Viox: “It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” –Marylin MonroeLauren Wachenfeld: Don’t care about what other people think, because if you’re not being yourself, you won’t be happy.Logan Walls: Only you can prevent forest fires.Nathan Walker: Try to have fun while in high school. It is only four years, and you should hang out with all of your friends when you have the chance. Be involved, and don’t let any one person be why your high school years are bad. Just have fun and take classes you will enjoy.Kallie Warner: Be yourself and don’t let other people bring you down. And before you make

a big deal out of something, take a step back and think about what really matters in life. Then ask yourself, “Is it worth it?” Also, work hard your freshmen and sophomore years. It matters more than you think. Stay true to yourself; don’t change for ANYONE! Journey on.Jamie Weaver: Don’t think that your grades don’t matter in your senior year. They mat-ter. Do everything you want senior year. Go to football games. Join clubs. Hang with friends. Everything.Brooke Weber: Always try to find a loop hole!Mikey Weinberg: Ghost ride the whip!Clarissa Weyman: I don’t know a lot about this school, but I do know this: You gotta watch out for the vampires…always carry a mirror every-

where you go.Dani Wheeler: Just be yourself no matter what!Marisa Whitaker: Take advantage of opportu-nities you get. You only live high school once.Katie Winoker: Don’t sweat the small stuff.Cara Witherby: Get involved with as much as you can, and enjoy your time here because it goes by so fast. Keep your friends close, and don’t let childish drama get in the way, because your time together is already limited.Leah Wood: Be squishy!Elizabeth Worsham: High school goes fast, but it’s not the end of the world. Keep around the people that support you and dismiss the dra-ma. Also, be nice to the freshmen. Once upon a time you were one of them too.
