BRAND NEW THIS MONTHNews at the Senior Center Whenever we think a month has been HUGE, another one comes right along to remind us that we’ve underestimated the energy and momentum of The Senior Center. We opened The Center in January. By the end of February, we had 90 members. As of this writing, we now have 400 members! In January we had one activity…Lunch! Art classes followed in March. As of this writing, we offer Arts and Crafts, Tai Chi, educational seminars, discussion groups, book club, entertainment at every lunch, movies, cards and games, books to borrow, computer assistance, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and the much-needed cell phone assistance! The final quarter of our first year is upon us. That will bring with it many seasonal people who have returned from their families and friends up North. Many of them were members when we started. Welcome back! Come in and see the energy and the magic that happens every day at the JFCS Senior Center.
JFCS has experienced a year of dramatic growth in our ability to address the ever increasing needs of individuals and families in Collier and southern Lee Counties. Every year at this time JFCS has a “Friends” Campaign to raise funds to support our services. Funds raised support mental health counseling, geriatric case management, the food pantry, and of course the JFCS Senior Center! If you would like to learn more about the “Friends of JFCS” campaign please visit our website, www.jfcsswfl.org or contact Dr. Jaclynn Faffer at [email protected] or 325-4444. Thank you!

BONSAI!! Bonsai is a Japanese art form using miniature trees grown in containers. This Japanese tradition dates back over a thousand years, and has its own aesthetics and terminology. Bonsai rather depends on growing small trees from regular stock and seeds. Bonsai uses pruning, root reduction, potting, defoliation, and grafting to produce small trees that mimic the shape and style of mature, full-size trees. Fellow member, Jerry Levitt, author of The Sphagnum Moss Bonsai Method, an Illustrated Handbook, will present.
