show was" said senior Cassidy Riley. Senior Omar Zapata who played the

Hawks Baseball- Moorefield took South Harrison twice to advance to a positive record. They came out very
strong and ready to play even during the severe weather conditions. The first nine hitters all had a few hits
during each game. Dakota Jarrett, starting pitcher for the Hawks threw a gem, but just did not have the defense
behind him. Brock Herrod went 1-2, while Bo Hammond also finished 1-3. The Hawks are now 6-14 on the
season. They played Tygart's Valley Monday evening at 6:00.

Lady Hawks Softball- South Harrison Lady Hawks went 2-3 over the weekend in the 2017 Bob Riggleman
tournament in Moorefield, WV. Senior Ciara Radcliff said “the competition was great down there. We played a
lot of great teams we have never played before so it was good to see some new opponents, going into the games
not knowing what to expect." The players were relatively pleased with their performances. Sydney Lipscomb
threw a great few games and Kylie Saltis threw a game and did well. The Lady Hawks opened back up this
week with Clay Battelle on Monday evening.

Successful 2017 Class Tournaments at SHHS
By Logan Peck
The Annual South Harrison High School class tournaments took place on Mar. 29, 31, and Apr. 6 & 7.
The four grade levels squared off to see which could take home the title. Mrs. Fragmin was
interviewed on the topic. “I thought that the freshman class was very involved and enthusiastic;
overall there was good participation from everyone. The cheer- off was very intense, and the
competition may have been higher than in recent memory.” She mentioned some of the surprising
outcomes of the events to be that the underclassmen were able to find ways to beat those who were
more experienced in the process, and also that the new games for this year went very well, and were a
lot of fun to watch. When asked on how it was to organize the event she said “It’s a little bit chaotic,
but really the student council officers take care of most of the work; I just make sure the schedule they
make is ran on time. They make my job pretty easy.”
The Surfin' Seniors waved high school goodbye but not before they took home the title of 2017 Class
Tournament Champions. They scored 27 points and beat second place, the sophomores, by 8 points
followed by the juniors, and in fourth was the freshman. The seniors won girls basketball, volleyball,
domino effect, elephant march, gone shopping, tortilla head, the cheer off, and the penny wars.
The purpose behind class tournaments is to “promote school spirit, class competition, overall
involvement, and it's a great memory for high school students. You see kids coming back for them all
the time,” Fragmin said. Some pointers she gives us to help our chances in years ahead is to learn the
rules to penny wars and minute to win it games, and if attendance continues to be a part of the system
be here every day.
March Students of the Month By: Jared Smith
South Harrison students of the month for March have been announced by H.A.W.K.S committee chair,

overall achievement and good attendance. Freshman Hailey Whitehair was chosen; Xavier Evans was
selected as sophomore student of the month; and in the junior class Jonathan Slattman received the
honor. The seniors selected for the month of March included Madison Maxwell and Austin Gregory.
These students are very excited and proud that they received such an honor. Sophomore Xavier Evans
commented on receiving such an honor: "I was very excited and glad that I was selected student of the
month." He also added that his family and friends were happy and proud of him.
South Harrison prepares for an enchanted evening for Prom 2017
By Kierra Myers
The junior class prom committee at SHHS is working hard to prepare for this year's prom. The SHHS
prom will be held at the Village Square in Clarksburg on May 6 from 8-11pm. This year's theme will
be Enchanted Forest. Paige Smith who is on prom committee said, "The preparation is going well and
we have a lot of homemade decorations that go well with the theme." Tickets are free to juniors and
seniors, but out of school and underclassmen guests must purchase a ticket. The price of the tickets for
guests or underclassmen is $25.
Greenhouse 1 and now Greenhouse 2 By: Logan Heck
South Harrison High school is opening another greenhouse building beside the first one. "The building
should be going up by the end of the 2017 school year and be operating during the start of the 2018
school year," Knopp said. “The school has already hired a company to put up the building and we will
have some students install the hydroponics of the building,” Tennant said. He also added that there will
be two classes that use the new greenhouse- horticulture and vegetable production.
