Governor Scott’sWater Pollution Rules...Too Little Too LateThe industry-friendly Florida Department of EnvironmentalProtection has drafted a substitute for EPA’s rules.
Governor Scott’s rules would only require pollution control after waters have been severely degraded, requiring expensiveclean-up at taxpayer expense.
The state’s proposed standards will not work. They will allow unsafe pollution levels and continued water quality degradation.
And dirty water is bad for Florida.
Florida’s Waters are a National Disgrace.

We must uphold the pollution regulations set by the US EPA under the Clean Water Act.
Numeric nutrient pollution standards will help control pollution at its source, including:
• Adopting sustainable agriculture practices• Upgrading old sewer plants and septic tank systems• Using modern manure management• Enhancing wastewater treatment and sewage sludge disposal• Installing backup systems in municipal water treatment plants
Costs of implementing the EPA’s standards have been greatly exaggerated by industry.
EPA standards are effective, enforceable limits on the sewage, fertilizer and manure allowed in our waterways. They will help prevent Floridians from having to spend billions in clean-up.
Massive amounts of nutrient pollution — nitrogen and phosphorous —are triggering toxic outbreaks of algae and bacteria across the state.
It’s past time for enforceable limits on the fertilizer, sewage and manuredumped by:
• Industrial Agriculture and Farming• Sewage Treatment Plants• Failing Septic Systems
This pollution is preventable but…
Florida under Rick Scott will undermine the EPA and Clean Water Act and substitute its own, meaningless rules.
Meaning more dirty water for Florida.
Florida’s waters are beingpoisoned.

Tell President Obama:
We deserve better.FLORIDA WANTS CLEAN WATER
REJECT RICK SCOTT’S PROPOSAL —KEEP EPA’S RULES.
NOW IT’S UP TO PRESIDENT OBAMA: WILL HE BACK RICK SCOTT’S PROPOSAL, OR SUPPORT EPA’S?
Clean water is the centerpiece of Florida’s economy, but our waterquality is some of the worst in the nation.
• Foul-smelling green slime is coating hundreds of miles of waterwaysacross the state – killing fish, birds and other wildlife.
• Our residents are heading to the Emergency Room with respiratoryproblems, rashes and infections.
• Property values have plummeted hundreds of millions of dollars.
• Drinking water is being contaminated, including one plant serving30,000 people.
• Popular beaches have been closed by toxic algae outbreaks.
Public opinion is ignored as lobbyists and polluters block clean-up at every turn.
