A masonry arch parts are1.Keystone : The voussoir located at the crown of the arch. Also called the key stone.2.Voussoir : One masonry unit of an arch.3.Extrados : The curve which bounds the upper edge of the arch.4.Impost : An impost block is a projecting block resting on top of a column or embedded in a wall, serving as the lowest voussoir of an arch.5.Intrados :The curve which bounds the lower edge of the arch. The distinction between soffit and intrados is that the intrados is a line, while the soffit is a surface.6.Rise : The vertical distance between the spring line of an arch or vault and the keystone or boss.7.Clear span: The horizontal clear dimension between abutments.8.Abutment : The masonry or combination of masonry and other structural members which support one end of the arch at the skewback.

Rammed earth is an ancient construction technique that utilizes only the earth to create thick, durable walls, which can beload bearing, low-cost, heat-storing and recyclable. It was developed independently in many parts of the world, and is alsocommonly known by its French name “Pise”. The technique of rammed earth is simply based on compacting soil between verticalformwork boards, which are then removed leaving a mass soil wall. Usually this technique is used in regions whose soilcomposition is unsuitable to make sun dried clay bricks.
