Self-Checkout Design Hannah Jenkins Final Concept The ScanFlow system is a user friendly solution to self-service shopping. Similar to existing manned checkouts, the customer will feel comfortable and relaxed, as the machine automatically scans the items for you. The shopping is directed to one of three PackPoints, where the customer can pack their bags. Once all the items have been processed, ScanFlow will begin scanning the next customer’s items and directing them to another PackPoint. This means the machine is always in action, and the customer can feel more relaxed when packing and paying, as there is not a queue building up behind them. Payment is completed at the PackPoint and the user can leave with their bags of shopping. ScanFlow is a system made to suit all user needs, with low level stations suitable for wheelchair users, excess room for trolley shops, audio guides for partially sighted, and less technology which satisfies those who dislike touch screens and interfaces. ScanFlow checkouts can be implemented side by side with existing manned checkouts, providing a quicker but familiar alternative.

UNLOAD PACK PAYDo your shopping as normal, and load items on to conveyor belt when finished.

Take your time to pack items as they flow out of the scanner.

When you are ready, follow the simple instructions on screen.

Flip out small barriers attached to the belt to separate your shopping from the next customer’s. The machine will register how much room your shopping takes.

Once you have finished unloading, the machine will call you to the next available PackPoint to suit your needs.

Items are listed as they pass through machine, as well as deals and savings. An audio guide is available with the use of headphones.

When all your items have been processed, the machine will call the next customer to another packpoint and begin scanning their items.

Hold ID against scanner and your image will be transmitted to a member of staff at a central desk who can authorise the transaction.

When prompted, hold DVD against scanner and the security RFID tag will be de-activated.
