Social Worker / CPLO (Child Protection Liaison Officer)

Early intervention and prevention services are provided by social workers (Cooktown and Weipa) in conjunction with local health workers and other primary health care staff. As a part of the Child and Family advocacy program. The positions develop, assist implmentation of and evaluate holistic health and wellbeing support plans for children and families at risk of entering / re-entering the statutory child protection system. The positions support Queensland Health and partner organisation staff, across TCHHS, to maintain their roles and responsibilities in relation to recognising, responding to and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect. Social Worker - Community Health Team Clinical Social Work services are delivered as a part of the Community Health Team (CHT) in the Cooktown and the Community Services Team (CST) in the Weipa Integrated Health Service. Counselling - ATODS and Mental Health The position provides a comprehensive range of alcohol and drug treatment services to individuals, groups and families where alcohol, tobacco or other drug use is causing concern. Services include comprehensive alcohol and other drug and mental health assessment, brief intervention, counselling, treatment, case management, crisis intervention and relapse management. Services are provided within a harm reduction philosophy and a community development and engagement model. This position is based in the Cairns Cluster of the Torres and Cape Mental Health and ATOD Service. The position services the communities of Lockhart River and Cooktown on alternate weeks, whilst the Wujal Wujal community is serviced every second Tuesday. Senior Allied Health Professional There are two senior Allied Health professional positions that provide high level clinical and professional leadership in partnership with the Torres and Cape Mental Health and ATOD Service. The position provides clinical case management within a multidisciplinary team in an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug service environment. The provisions of these services are for consumers of all ages and carers experiencing and affected by serious mental disorders, drug and alcohol addiction and other serious mental health problems across the community and inpatient settings. Occupational Therapist – Child and Youth Mental Health

The Rural and Remote Area Child and Youth Mental Health (RRACYMH) team is a component of the Rural and Remote Area Mental Health Service. They provided a fortnightly outreach service for the communities of Weipa, Wujal Wujal, Hope Vale, Aurukun and Cooktown and a monthly service to the communities of Pormpuraaw, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Coen. RRACYMH provides supportive therapy, clinical assessment, capacity building activities for children families and community members. The age range for referrals is from 0-17 years. The referral themes cover a wide range of community concerns including issues of development in children, parenting strategies, over activity, attention problems, school attendance, learning difficulties, loss and grief, trauma, anxiety and fears, issues of identity, drinking and smoking behaviours, anger and fighting, sadness and depression, self-harm, goal setting, and aspirations etc. The RACYMH team is comprised of Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health Workers (ICYMHW), Clinical (Allied Health/Nursing) and a Child Psychiatrist. The allied health professionals include two social workers and a psychologist. Each of the clinicians work in partnership with an ICYMHW, this informs culturally appropriate practice and encourages a two way flow of skill/knowledge transfer. The team is supported and clinically managed by a clinical and practice supervisor who provides regular supervision, education; case reviews and supports a broad range of other team activities.
