• Supreme Court Case

• Ruled that “separate but equal” was constitutional (legal)

• Allowed Jim Crow Laws

• Laws created aimed at separating the races

• Forbade interracial marriage

•Established separate schools, waiting rooms, elevators, restrooms, etc

WWII Discrimination

• Black men continued to be restricted to inferior jobs

• In the military segregation was persistent

• Fighting in Europe against the Nazis for others’ rights inspired African Americans to fight for their own!

• Faced with riots, mobs, and threats
