Year the programme implemented: 2008- still continuing Fund Received and utilized: Rs. 2.23 crores and utilized so for Rs.0.86 (crores) Villages and Area covered: 2 Watersheds spread in 8 villages covering area 2280 hectares.
NABARD has created watershed development Fund (WDF) for promotional efforts, capacity building to implementing micro watershed projects. The objective of the fund is to spread the message of participatory watershed development and to replicate and consolidate the isolated successful initiatives under different programmes in the government, semi-government & NGO sectors. Watershed Development Fund is grant based programme to communities, as consequence given greater role for NGO’s in this programme. The Watershed Development Fund programme in Andhra Pradesh is part of “Distress Relief to Farmers”
To identify distress areas where farmers suicides is predominant and bring relief to farmers through watershed programme
To generate labour oriented works
To conserve soil and moisture in the degraded and eroded lands.
Besides enhance productivity in agriculture and livestock management and livelihoods to marginalized community.
Establish institutions to manage and own up the program.
A common activity through people contribution called as qualifying shramadhan contributed four days of labour from each household by executing percolation tank value worth of Rs 60000 to Rs.70000.
Formed Village Watershed Development Committee, with the community involvement identified 10% of the watershed area in the ridge portion and prepared plan for soil and moisture conservation and implemented. This phase is called Capacity Building Phase (CBP), it is more or less a learning phase to the community as well as to SEED.
While implementation of 60 percent CBP fund simultaneously SEED facilitated the community to plan for the balance watershed area that is 90% of the area. This phase is called Feasibility Study Report (FSR).
The FSR plan was prepared in a systematic way.
The farmer wise Net Plan consolidated, the plan was assessed by NABARD and Resource Support Organization and approved by Project Sanctioning Committee. The amount sanctioned for each watershed on an average was Rs.1.10crores for a period of three years.
The two watershed projects graduated to Full Implementation Phase (FIP), here facilitated the Village Watershed Committee (VWDC) in preparing phase wise plan giving prominence to ridge to valley dividing the plans into four parts.
Oriented VWDC to operationlise the plan on seasonality an labour availability and fix the targets including physical and financial targets.
Oriented VWDC for greater involvement in the programme more so to give priority to execute quality works, monitor the works, updating the records, timely payments and livelihood management led to formation of Sub committees in order to make the VWDC functional.
Established VWDC Offices, displaying information related to list of VWDC members, roles and responsibility, Watershed map, Plan of action, Projections to complete each phase, Standard Schedule rates etc.
To supplement transparency displayed social audit boards in visible location giving details of sanction, Releases and Expenditure activity wise and timely updations were made.
Once in three months conducted Gram Sabhas. Displayed welcome boards.
Under WDF watersheds identified two watersheds scientifically as per the drainage line and one outlet. Covering as area of 2280 hectares in Nawabpet Mandal of Rangareddy district. The two watersheds are Kesavpalli and Chittigidda spread in 8 villages.

OUT COME OF THE PROGRAMME• Through capacity building the local institutions have been empowered taking greater responsibility in
executing as per the plan without any plan deviation. The attitudes of the committee members have changed from nominal membership to responsible committee members. Introduced farmer card for transparency – it is a first model and same replicated in the other project area. The purpose of farmer card is for the farmer to ensure the quantity and value of work to execute in the field.
· So far the area treated is 1600 ha as against 2800ha, which includes soil moisture conservations works and vegetative measures and utilized Rs.113 lakhs in two watersheds.
· Generated 48250 employment days in two watersheds.· Due to stone works in the gullies and drainage the run off reduced
and soil deposited.· The area treatment especially after formation of New Farm Bunds,
farm ponds helped in retaining the rain water in the farm, moisture content retained 15 to 20 days, earlier before Watersheds it was 7 days to 8 days. Execution of CCTs and Water Absorption Trenches,(WAT) the land below the hillocks, the soil erosion, formation of rills and small gullies reduced to a greater extend. The soil looked healthy, moisture content improved, plant too could sustain despite long intervals of rain fall.
The percolation tanks constructed in watersheds, it was observed in the downstream the bore wells discharging half inch of water, able to discharge one and half inch of water. The Dug wells which were kept abundant for a very long time due to exploitation of ground water through bore wells. Now the dug wells are recharged and using irrigation for vegetable cultivation in small piece of land.
· Besides at least 225to 320 acres of waste land is brought under cultivation in each watershed. In some places the farmer started growing double crop.
· The owing to the labour oriented works, the labour stopped going outside the village for work especially to Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chenni, to large extent migration reduced. Increases crop yield in major crops Jowar and Red gram), farmers going in for vegetable cultivation.
· Due to improvement in moisture content changed from rain fed crops to Vegetable cultivation.
· 16 percent of Regular Shramdahan was contributed from farmers especially paying 16 percent to labour, in most of the cases farmer worked as labour to contribute 16 percent of regular shramadhan.
· Identified poorest of poor families mostly single woman, landless, small and marginal families were given livelihood loans that in each watershed disbursed Rs. 14 lakhs to 418 families. The recovery is 90 percent. Now even the recovered amount is given as loan to those who are not in the sanctioned plan.
· From the Milch animals they have benefited income from Rs.6000-12000/- per month. · The Productivity Enhancement so far disbursed loan under APE Rs.11.77 lakhs to each watershed is
also give as loan to small and marginal farmers. Established vermicompost units, adopted NPM practices, using Taiwan sprayers, Tarpaline sheets to harvest the crop, improved seed,

The program targets to plant 2000 saplings of local species in the back yard of the house, in places of local institutions such as schools, Gram Panchayath, Community Hall and roadside plantation. The area selected for plantation is Hayathnagar mandal in Rangreddy district. The villages covered are Yamjal, Surajagar and patiguda the plants were distributed to 100 households; and the Species were Acid lime, Pomegranate, Guava and curry leaves. The Gram Panchayat, community hall and School planted Subabul, Neem and Pongamia. The program actively involved Youth, Self Help Groups and Gram panchayath in distribution of plants and plantations. SEED formed a committee in the village involving members from Self Help Group, Youth and Gram Panchayath in order to take the responsibility of protecting the plants. The plants were collected from Social forestry at nominal price. With the technical support of M.V. Foundation, various activities like bringing awareness on environmental issues were organized.
ENVIRONMENT AWARESESS CAMPAIGNS AND RALLIES: SEED Organization has conducted a rally to celebrate the Environment day on 5th June 2008 with coordination with local women groups, Chiranjeevi Youth association members, college students and Mother Theresa Women Cooperative Society members participated in the rally.
The major focus of the rally was to highlight on the critical Environmental issues like climate change and global warming.
In the rally, children carried placards, posters, banners and distributed material and the captions indicating to safeguard the environment, threats that are leading to global warming, do’s and don’t.
The rally was very educative, informative and awareness to change the attitude of the community. The Circle Inspector of Vansthalipuram in GHMC -Rangareddy District launched this program.
KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAMME
Under this programme SEED collaborated with Horticulture department & M.V.Foundation for Kitchen gardens kits. The purpose of supplying the kits
was to inculcate the habit of including vegetables daily in the diet regime and improve the nutritional standards of the children and women besides recycling and utilizing the domestic wastewater. The kit contains seeds such as Tomato, Brinjal, green vegetable leaves, Beans, Bitter guard and bottle guard. The Society made efforts by selecting families who are located in the periphery of the village mostly living in the thatched houses and especially to families migrated from other villages for source of living. In the process, in July 2008 SEED identified 150 families in 4 villages in Hayathnagar (Mandal) and supplied kits.
Later, SEED visited the 150 families in the village in the month of September; and observed that most of the roof of the thatched houses was covered with vegetable creepers and flowering stage. Subsequently, in the following revisits, it was observed that the 150 families were able to consume vegetables and green leaves daily, as per the estimation, at least for a period of three months they were able to save Rs 150 per month. Besides, it is interesting to note that some of the families have left healthy vegetables to dry up for seed purposes. Others have sold the excess vegetables in the market and earned an amount of Rs.600 to Rs.800. However, the concept of promoting Kitchen garden leads to habit of growing vegetables and consuming regularly.
